I am a proud copyright infringer.
Copyright law is dated and the Digital Media Act is an attempt by corporate lawyers to stop legal use of copyright material on the internet to protect big business monopolies.
To that end corporates have attacked you tube and others for having content on there site that is "copyright" infringement. You tube allows these media companies to let them know what files violate copyright and they will remove them. That is apparently not good enough so Viacom aka greedy dickheads is suing them for 1 billion dollars.
Clips of shows on the internet are not copyright infringement. They provide them for media outlets all the time at no cost all the time. They don't like the competition on there media outlets for viewership. So if you aren't already big media you cannot use there content?
That is called monopolistic practices and borders on open collusion by media companies to try and shut down competition for its distribution of clips.
As for the EMU team. There intention isn't to circumvent SOE getting its 14.99 a month. They are trying to bring back an unsupported version of the software they paid for and have a legal right to use. Dispite claims by idiots you don't have a right to pre-cu content you do. The defination of gameplay may change isn't we will give you an entirely new game you didn't pay for and if you don't like it fuck off.
That is not a valid either and if the EMU team is working on an unsupported abandoned version of software they shouldn't be violated copyright law with the exception of Lucas Arts Star Wars copyrights and if they aren't charging for it? Well basically they are not violating the law.
Basically, copyright law is junk and if you the consumer support it you are a piece of trash consumer who is just a shill. Way to stand up for you rights to content that you have rights to watch, play and own.
Yeah, they're hardly bringing anything in except for some things PLAYERS have asked for. It's an update, not a publish. I would imagine a .dll being removed has something to do with one of the systems being reworked. As far as SOE really being concerned with facing you guys in court, I highly doubt it. As far as stomping out the emu, if they can I'm all for it.
well it really just so happens that they just removed a .dll, when was the last time they did? Anyways EMUs are private servers that
1. You need to buy the original copy
That's where your wrong. Since it's not being played on SOE servers, registration keys are not needed/checked, therefore a bunch of slobs give bittorrent a workout.
2. your not giving money to a fraudulant piece of shit company
Exactly, including for the software, since keys are no longer needed/checked. And that gives SOE a place to start. So, if they can't go after the emu directly, they will just go after the individual people running/hosting them. No players, no emu.
3. and the emu guys dont have the exact code, if they did they would already have it going. Even nowadays emus dont get the code right away and start useing it, they have to build it from scratch/ reverse packets and what not. Takeing the code and trying to make a profit, or useing the exact copy is illegal.
They have enabled copyrighted software with keys required as a security measure to be circumvented. It's the same as me passing out master keys for Chevrolet vehicles and saying "I just made it possible, I didn't do it.".
Can the fanboi go some where else please, the NGE is a piece of crap, the servers are empty we are not coming back!
I have a Station count, "cancleing that soon though" so I logged on StarSider 7:00pm CST prime time, 35 people thats all the game is dead fanboi go away please to another fourm.
The game is crap to easy and the xp is too slow at the higher levels, run up to a Thume mound attack one the others watch, lol.
Try fighting 20 volitors all at the same time, thats right you can't anymore. As a swordsman hunting hide I could get that mound a popping voiltors then harvest the hide off all of them.
I was a long time SWG player from launch to the NGE when I finally left. And even though I hate to admit it the game is truly dead it has been out too long at this point and would need a major overhaul in sooo many areas and I don't see SOE putting in the time, having the know how, or the desire to do so. My toon was master tk fencer, sword, working my way at my own pace to jedi now hes reduced to living in his bunker. I just finally took it off my hard drive to make some room and it killed me lol but I realize that they are not gonna fix this pile of crap its too bad the game had so much potential just needed some devs with imagination. So to all my former players some I still roll with in other MMOs hopefully well meet again maybe STO.

thats up to the people on where they get their version of the SWG client, i payed money for my copy of SWG and so did everybody else except for the newcomers. I payed for the pre-cu game, and since pre-cu is no more some other people are going to give me the product i payed for.
2. your not giving money to a fraudulant piece of shit company

hey why do you think there are so many emus out?? BECAUSE THEY ARENT BREAKING ANY LAWS, there are hundreds of private servers for mmos, and ive only heard of one private server being closed because the jackasses broke the law and charged the people to play.
3. and the emu guys dont have the exact code, if they did they would already have it going. no its not like that, its like makeing an older version of the Chevy and puttin a different company name on it(without stealing the blueprints and ect, just buildin from scratch). Giving people keys or aka REGISTRATION KEYS that makes it where the person does not have to buy the chevy AKA THE CLIENT. The emu is not giving the people keys, their just makeing their own product (one that is no longer in use) and letting the people play it, Without chargeing them (considering that would be illegal).

*dances happily at how his thread has become a hot debate then goes serious*
I have to add something here because I don't think some people actually realize what copyright law is about *coughs* Zorvan! *coughs* Copyright Law prevents the usage of someone else's work for profit and also prevents Its copying without the original owners' permission if a copied product is different enough that it will only look slightly similar to the copyrighted product then they won't be sued (an example of this would be when SWG got turned into an unsuccessful WoW clone).
On the case of the SWG emu, I think they're untouchable personally, the Emu guys are using a source code that SOE have apparently gotten rid of completely and replaced it, basically denying that it could ever return, if this is true, then they will not be able to sue the emu folks because technically they no longer own the copyright for the source code of the pre-cu since they replaced it with the NGE source code.
Sorry if it seems hard to understand but this is what I'm understanding from all of this....
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.

I'm not so sure they're untouchable. The Star Wars IP is owned by Lucas not SOE. Even if they totally rewrote the source code they would still be using the Star War IP. The only way they could possibly get by with it is to have Lucas' permission or not use Star Wars IP at all. As far as the code is concerned, it doesn't matter if SOE got rid of it or chose never to use it again. It's still their code. What you're saying would be the same as me stealing an old car of yours that you never used because you bought a new one. Doesn't matter how old it is or how much you used it. The point is it was your car and I have no right to take it. Copyrights just don't run out because a product changes. The old product is copyrighted as well as the new one. In my car analogy, you didn't lose ownership of your car just because you bought a new one. Why would you think SOE's old code would lose it's copyright status just because they rewrote the game and introduced the NGE?
This is sad. I really feel sorry for some of you. SWG was only a game. I loved it too but it wasn't a way of life for me. I wasn't so wrapped up in it that lawsuits, IP theft and copyright theft became alternatives to playing the NGE. My advice to all of you would be to see a lawyer and find out exactly what you can and cannot do before you get yourselves into serious trouble. Keep one thing in mind, Lucas is very protective of their Star Wars IP and SOE is not just going to let someone take their code be it old or new. They have legal departments that can take any legal action they deem neccessary including getting the FBI involved for the theft of their IP and code. They can also outmoney you in the courts and would win hands down because what you're doing is illegal and you have no grounds for a lawsuit. You may think you're taking the war to them and winning but you're not. SWG is just not worth all the trouble you're headed for by doing something like this. No game is worth the trouble.
Armchair lawyers for the Win!!!! If i recall didnt Nintendo lost in court (or dropped it)over their cartridge games being EMU'd.Basically if you owned the original game it violated no US copyright laws or The IP..someone google it im sure its out there somewere...But i do know based on the past that if the EMU did violate anything LA would strike it down fast as they allways have..But they also have embraced those that havent violated anything and using their IP's.So maybe they have embraced the EMU since its based on a game that is no longer in Retail../shrug.Time will tell tho if its legal ill play if it isnt then oh well i wont play it even tho i did pay for it but cant play it now..
