OP, you're not the only one. Very quickly I was bored as hell, and couldn't get the words "Shitty WoW" out of my head.
If you're bored perhaps it's time to move to the next stage in MMO's.
I liked WOW for many of the same reasons I like LOTRO both are fun little fast food MMO's that require little thought. I find statements like the above quite funny. It's especially hilarious when people act as if WOW is some bastion of depth and strategy.
I don't get dissapointed because I realize from the start neither title was designed for that type of gameplay. Why do people expect two Mustangs to perform like a Lamborgini only to get angry when they don't?
When I'm in the mood for excitement & depth I know what titles to load up.
all these MMO nubs keep saying "this game copied wow" "that game copied wow" but what they dont get is how much WoW copied EQ and EQ2
Careful there, Bliz fans can say your a "nub" .... since it can be said EQ copied from Blizzard's online games which came out earlier than EQ. Blizzard has had an online presence long before EQ's first line of code was written.
WoW did indeed copy.... heavily from Diablo 1, and Diablo 2, which were insane online successes before EQ who? EQ what?
BOTH EQ2 and WoW also copied heavily from the revolutionary Anarchy Online.
Seeing all "next gen", revolutionary or even simply "innovative" MMORPGs lately either get canned ( Wish, Dragon Empires..) or outright suck on each and every level at release ( Horizons, Dark and Light, Ryzom, Vanguard and the list goes on ) sure made me appreciate the "clones".
I can, ya know, like, install and start playing. No constant crashes, decent performance, no waiting for a patch to fix my class or basic gameplay features. Kinda grows on you.
The only similarities between LOTR and WoW are the same similarities that WoW shares with every other level based game on the market:
You kill things to gain XP in order to level up
It is 3D
It is fantasy
Beyond that they are nothing alike. The quest systems are vastly different. The reward systems are very different. The lore is different. WoW has short and sweet quests and a few longer quests. LoTR has those too but it also has an epic storyline which runs the entire game.
WoW Clone? Nope. WoW is, itself, a clone of EQ so calling ANYTHING a wow clone is just ludicrous.
It's a 3D Fantasy MMORPG which shares similarities with every other 3D level based fantasy MMORPG. It has many features completely different from WoW.
IMO it is more fun than WoW and has better graphics than WoW... by miles....

*Sings*: "Its just the same ol' song with a different beat and a different bar...its the same, its the same old song..."
And I'm not talking about the games either!
This conversation is as old as MMO's. First Everquest was supposed to be 3D clone of Ultima Online, and every game after EQ was supposedly a EQ clone. This included World of Warcraft. WoW soon became popular and brought a lot of new people to MMOs in general and soon it was the paradigm that everything was judged against.
These are MMOs, there are few completely unique mmo's. Just like RPGs before them gameplay is usually similar but what draws you is storyline a Unique setting and some new twist the game puts in to attract players.
Is LotRO a clone? No
Based heavily on the conventions that made WoW popular? Yes
If you don't like WoW or LotRO, thats fine. Just labeling a game a clone to insult it however, is just not cool. Thats pretty much calling every RPG ever made since Zelda, Ultima, and Final Fantasy a clone ( And since most MMOs have RPG elements... you get the picture).
Heck if you want to get into the way back machine: Every fantasy game is damn near a rip off of Dungoens and Dragons, and thats a ripoff of Tolkien. Tolkien ripped off mythology. The Romans ripped off the Greeks, the Greeks stole from the Babylonians...
Please before you start calling something a clone, just remember everything and everybody borrows from the past.
And before I get ripped into, yes certain games are clones or are so close to another game they may have well just put the game in another box and called it a different name. Titan Quest anyone? (although it did bring a few new features to the hack and slash genre)
ok i think some people missed my point or i used the wrong words. i know that you can pretty much relate any game to another game and you could probably give credit to Jesus for inventing mmos. but you see the thing is i really don't care if this game completely ripped off another game. if it improves on it and is more fun than the original GREAT thats good for me. so when i say wow clone i mean its a game that would belong in the same group as wow. in other words the game is just some more of the same get 5 of these collect 10 of this, click this guy and hit 1, 5, 0, -,3. if you want to get techincal there were some areas where LOTRO did better and there were some areas where they did worse. IMO WoW deliverd an over all more fun experiance, even though i don't particulary like wow.

What exactly did WoW copy from diablo 1? Nothing I'm aware of. What did they copy from Diablo 2? Skill trees and that's about it. Diablo is a 4-8 man game, WoW has thousands. Diablo uses a point and click movement, Wow uses WASD. Diablo dungeons are randomized in their geometry, WoW dungeons are static. Diablo had a henchman system, WoW has none. Diablo had lobbys if you wanted to find a group, WoW has the craptastic LFG stones. Diablo used, primarily, potions for health and mana management, WoW uses various regen effects and support classes with potions being used in a tertiary capacity. Diablo has a unified and arcing plotline, WoW does not. Diablo used scaling difficulty for mobs, WoW's mob's difficulty is static. WoW would've been a much better game had they copied more ideas from Diablo.
This has nothing to do with being a WoW fanboi. I don't like the game and cancelled my account a long time ago.

You say you are aware of nothing that WoW copied from Diablo 1 and Diablo 2?
1. Numerous Treasure Chests lying on the ground all over the game world. The ONLY online games that have treasure chests scattered throughout the gameworld are... you guessed it, Diablo 1/Diablo 2... and... WoW. And not just the traditional treasure chests guarded by a boss and henchmen. Just simply treasure chests sitting on the ground, all alone, rewarding players who like to xplooooor looking around the game.
THIS ONE game mechanic, game feature, is one of the major, major, "secrets" as to why Diablo 1 is still sold in stores right now. Same with Diablo 2. Every single player, including the highest level players, vets who have played for years and years, become excited with glee when they discover this part of the game. It litterally becomes a treasure finding game. A RANDOM treasure finding game. Because there is a random factor, it makes each time a player opens a treasure chest something brand new, no matter if they have been playing 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, 2 years, or more. And of course Blizzard made darn well sure to copy this "secret" into WoW. A level 1 player in WoW can run around finding and opening treasure chests (a Dwarf Rogue is best at this. Though others can do it too.) .... and without fighting a single MOB! Without having to group, or enter any instances.
2. The way Armor Set work in WoW. WoW litterally "ripped this straight off of Diablo 2" in the way Armor Sets work in WoW. Get certain pieces that are certain colors, and they combine to do something else. Get certain pieces with certain names, and they increase in power. Get certain pieces and they GIVE the user certain powers - for example a rogue can suddently heal just like a Priest/Do types of Priest spells (not as effectivly, but still heal though.).
3. "Useless Static Dungeons". In Diablo 2 there are many quests, static dungeons, and areas that one does NOT need to go to in order to advance in the game. They are simply put there for fun and no other reason. The most blatant example from Diablo 2 is "The Den of Evil", and "The Cave" (it's before you reach the other cave called "The Underground Passage".). Let's not forget "The Tower" with it's mini lore about an evil female caster who has treasure at the hardest to reach level. Skip these areas and the player loses out on nothing. In WoW there are tons, and tons, of areas that are "useless", put there simply for fun and no other reason. There is no other reason to go to them... skip them and one loses out on nothing.
this game imo is just another WoW clone that isnt as user friendly and just has a clunky UI/HUD. i only got to play it for a few hours but its gonna be hard to try it again, because i just had no fun playing it, does it get any better in the higher levels?
While it may not be actual WoW clone but EQ/AO/etc clone as some people state (I never played EQ/AO), it still doesnt change the fact that you are right about the game being boring...and a clone of something.
This comfirms my feelings about any dev wanting the WoW playerbase: Unless you go back in time and stop WoW for ever being make you will not touch it's playerbase.. PERIOD.
It's a simple fact and I hate reminding those players of it: The main reason everything is a 'WoW clone' to you is that Blizzard does a very good job of taking other people's ideas and turning them into their own, the base premess of the lore, either Warhammer or Tolken, the design of the orginal WC titles, basically Warhammer (hell they even admitted they based the designes in WC/SC from both WH and 40k as they are fans at one point), theres about 50000 zillion reffecences within WoW itself from TV/Film/pop culture in general, thier 'new' PVP arena system.. hell thats dicrectly ripped from GW.. However it's NOT a bad thing, hell it's netted them over 8/9 million players can't fault them on that..
But guys lets get one thing clear, if you are a HUGE WoW fan or WoW is your first MMO and are looking for 'not a WoW clone'... honistly.. You won't EVER find a completely 'orginal' title compered to WoW, WoW is such a huge clone of everything itself that anything remotely orginal will probly have it's own verson within WoW at some point, you much beter off staying with WoW because to you nothing will be 'better'..

Any MMO where you have a 3 D avatar, do quests, get XP for both quests and kills, you can solo or group,
have unique drops from boss mobs, have a somewhat customizable UI, and some type of limited PvP
is always a WoW clone?
If I see a game that uses rep grinding coupled with loot grinding as the end game, I would think that is a WoW clone.
