The word "Bible" is considered profanity in LOTR Online's Language Filter. Tolkien is a Christian. O

However, the claim that Tolkien was Christain, I'm not 100% sure about. There are many writers that people have liked to believed were christain but were in fact not.

The one that might come to the biggest surprise to most people is that many of the US founding fathers were Diests (believing that there was some intelegent life(s) that influinced the creation of life on earth, but after the fact they have nothing to do with us. they don't dictate us or interact with us, etc.)

Tolkien absolutely WAS a christian and this is quite evident in his books if you can read between the lines.

Kind of positive that most of the western and European world was forced to be Christian. So, no surprise there.

Be Christian or die, heathen,.. for centuries.  Doesn’t make it a good thing ;)

This whole thread is once again nothing but Christian propaganda, a lame attempt to try to put forth the "Christians are put upon" martyr mentality..

Funny thing is, for all the hate of paganism over the centuries, Christians sure do like the pagan holidays.

Anyway, no religion holds any need or place in a game other than the ones in that game.

So, it dosnt matter what religion he was.

Feel free to believe what you want, but try to keep your ignorance to a minimum.
    Thank you
    To JetRPG :
You can't argue freedom of expression for some and not all. How would that be fair saying it's okay to say one thing and not another. Religion does offend some people and it's better that it not be talked about at all in a public setting. Besides, the filter can be turned off so this shouldn't be an issue at all.
Show me one iota of proof of life after death. Until then, stop calling ppl stupid because of their beliefs, or lack thereof.

    Just to play Devil's Advocate...

Show us all one iota of proof that there is NOT a spiritual life after death.

    - How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?

    - I don't know, but some people without brains do an awful lot of talking, don't they?

    I agree with Mrbloodworth...

Doesn't belong in game... Xtian or otherwise.

Reading between lines is something religious finatics are very good at.  Rather than simply reading what is written one can add whatever meaning they see fit to any passage, book or author as long as they argue properly.  Brilliant idea.

If I wanted to sell any product to a majority of Americans (Christian or otherwise)...

I would definitely try to at least lightly align the author/creator or product, in same cases, in a Christian manner.  This makes the product/s appealing for both Christians/Catholics/Muslims possibly (who make up a majority of the population) and the rest of America who really doesn't care if it is religiously aligned at all... simply for the sake of generating a better profit margin and increasing the products marketing appeal.

    Haha.

I have mixed feelings regarding religion...

I don't mean to offend anyone by the following statement... But the word Christian is an incredibly flexible term...

Bending reality outside of the image set forth by the Bible... Blasphemy!

Tolkien may have been "Christian," but his work sure as hell wasn't.

    From Tolkien's Book of Letters;

" The Lord of the Rings is of course a fundamentally Catholic and Religious work; unconsciously so at first, but consciously in the revision. That is why I have not put in, or have cut out, practically all references [Ed. though not all] to anything like 'religion', to cults or practices, in the imaginary world. For the religious element is absorbed into the story and symbolism. " [Letters p.172].

I think that says it all, doesn't it?  People love to deny it, but LOTR is a Christian work.

    That it does...that it does...

Well I guess its true what they say...theres 3 things you never talk about with your friends, Money, Politics and religion. I can't say I'll ever look at that story the same again. When I do I'm sure I'll just see all the little tid bits of the bible all over again. I'm an atheist...and now shocked as well.
