Been-there-done-that is the prevailing feeling I'm getting plus I get no special LOTR feelings from the game. If it has something that I would recommend, the classes, attacks, and environment are new/different and each starter area has an instance that pushes the story along and in the human starter area, the instance permanently transforms the landscape. Possibly there are instances scattered throughout the game at the start or end of each zone. But overall it is mostly a static environment.
I am now in the search for something new in MMO's. I know there is Eve, and I played Planetside (which is a team based combat MMO) but I'm hoping that the near- future fantasy based MMOs like Age of Conan will come up with something new and not just be Wow imitators.

Only problem with this statment is that so many people think that WoW came up with all these ideas and do not realise that WoW came up with nothing new. It was all tried and true things from previous MMOs. The rest of his statement I agree with 100%.

I normally get to play the newer MMOs but our company has assigned groups for a couple of MMOs and I am not on the list for it so I would have to pay for it out of pocket and I have been too spoiled to pay the monthly for an MMO.

I suspect that Blizzard used EQ as a primary starting point (but I never played it)... Not trying to imply that WoW was an original concept but due to it's popularity everyone is trying to copy that level of success.

I understood what you meant I was just clearing it up, didn't try to undermine your post at all. Like I said, I basically agree with your entire post and am pumped about Age of Conan!

lol... this whole world that is mmorpg.com, with it's "Games In Development" section kind of makes make laugh.

When you are sitting around with your friends after a good meal on a weekend, and somebody asks "hey, let's go catch a movie"... you say: "cool... what's on?".... "well, there's this new Bond film"..... do you say?     "WAIT... no way! He doesn't have a good enough British accent, I don't want to go. Instead, let's wait till summer release of Spiderman 3 !!!"  Of course your friends would smack you up side the head and tell you to stop being a retard.

AoC and WAR = VAPORWARE. Until they are released, they are nothing. They MIGHT run out of money, and get purchased by SOE, who will force them to have an early release, and bad-press will destroy the growth, etc etc.  And then, they MIGHT release and kick some A this coming fall/winter.

The ONLY choice right now is:

old-and-tried: WoW, EQ2    (like getting a rental at blockbuster)

on-the-edge: EVE      (cult flick at the seedy side of town)

newly-released: LOTRO and VG.     (only thing on at the theatre)

So if you want to play an MMO this summer.... that's what you got to choose from....

I have to admit that I agree completely: this above is the list of MMORPG's I have ever subscribed to :) exactly. (not counting a very short spell in Neocron and Ryzom..)

Currently: WoW with bro, and closed beta in LOTR.

That's quite possibly the most ignorant thing I've ever read on this website.   Seriously.

Lol! Well based on your list, I'm currently playing WoW on a very limited basis, in Teldrassil developing some new characters with my wife in tow. My genius plan is to get her interested in MMO game play and then move on to something new and exotic like....SoR? (at least new to me. Not implying that SoR is the best, it's just different. :))

So I've been playing the LOTR closed beta for just a few days i got an invite and kinda just didnt get around to it until now. I've reached the level 10 mark and so far have enjoyed the game. The quest's are interesting and do a good job at telling a story and for once i acutally want to read the quest text instead of scanning to the end to see what i need to kill or collect. My only question at this point is there raid content ? or any type of end game at all. I figured it being such a heavy PVE game there would be a interesting endgame added in at some point. I'll mostly pre-pay due to the fact there really isnt much too choose from right now i played WoW since closed beta and have got very sick of it. I bought vanguard but blah just not into it seem's very bland only thing i liked was the crafting system. So hopefully LOTR turns out to be a very well done PVE based game the PVP seem's very interesting getting sick of the same run of the mill capture the flag king of the hill type PVP in MMORPGS. I just really hope for raid content and more instences at some point otherwise i really dont see what we as players will do once we reach level cap besides sit around town smoking pipeweed

rip the mic , rip the stage , rip the system i was born to rage against'em - ratm

If turbine is willing to work hard for us, for free imagine what they will do when we actually pay them.

the haters seem to point at a lot of turbines past mistakes or failures, but I just don’t see how this even relates to Lotro or the success Turbine is GOING to achieve. Lotro will be a hit, it will be a million sellers, you can basically bank on that…

Its just a waste of my time, to explain why Lotro is a great game. You can sign up for the beta, if you can’t figure it out, you were never meant to be here…

Oh btw, im not a casual gamer, im a POWER gamer… so much for that Stereotype that the Vanbois are throwing around…

I think out of all of them, AoC will either be a milestone, or a complete bust. The guys at fun com are maybe the only ones who are actually trying to do something different in this space.

Why will I sign up for lotro lifetime? Its really simple, A my EQ clan is moving to it ( http://rotfh.com ) and it’s the best PVE mmorpg I have played since FFXI.

I just want to know if, as a self admitted power gamer, do you find LotRO challenging enough? I only got to about level 5, so I didn't play very long thus far. Up to that point the game is very easy, as a starting experience should be. Does the game get more challenging as you get higher in levels?

The first 10 levels the game is very much on rails so to speak. Its on rails because there trying to tell a story, once you finnish that part of the game, your now in "the world" so to speak. Most of the time, when i am in an instance i cant really tell... this is a major kudo to turbine, they actually are the first mmo to use instance spaces correctly (can quote me on that) BUT imo the games beauty is in the open world, the world is simply amazing. As a vet of EQ and FFXI, lotro got tougher past lvl20. Also i found myself trying to uncover a lot of traits... i believe the trait system, being what is a form of AA at launch adds a lot of depth to the game. WoW has been out for 2 years and it doesnt have AA... its not just about levels anymore...

I frankly would like to see the level cap at 50, and just expand on the traits (but im sure they wont do that). A lot of the small raid instances are some of the best pve ive seen in a long time.

Your idea of a "hard" game doesnt really exist. Simply because, theres a thotbott for lazy people around every corner. Every game is going to have

The question you should be asking is, "Do you think lotro has enough content to keep me busy" and imo, the answer is yes. Turbine has failed in past games due to not having enough content, they didnt do that here... in fact, its really hard to tell this was made by tubine lol... as i said before, im not a fan of any company. If someone makes a great game, in what is a craptastic space, thats were im going.

Sounds great, I will definitely give it some attention at release. Trait system sounds kewl too.
