The discussion regarding the looking for group channel is pretty accurate. The new system takes control away from the players and gives it to the server. It sucks.

Why don't they introduce bring back the default LFG channel as well as allowing people to use the new tool. And then let the players decide which one they want to use?

I can get by - I maintain a long friends list of competent people I have adventured with around my level. Normally I can put together the core of a party from this list, and then, if necessary, I just use random whispers to fill in the gaps. The LFG tool only seems to offer a couple of names, both at the extreme low end of the level range for the instance (e.g. level 40's wanting to go to Uldaman).

But alot of new players will start with the mistaken impression that a friends list is for recording people who are actually friends (rather than competent acquaintances), or won't yet have learnt how to do /who searches. They just get stuck with the leftovers after the old-hands and the guilds have skimmed off all the decent people.

The game is 8.5 mill subs and growing everyday, they shouldn't have to merge servers.

WoW may or may not still be growing, but the fact remains that sooner or later that growth will stop and turn into shrinkage.

If the new games due out such as AoC, LotRO and WhO are any good, it will happen this year - if they are not so good then maybe in a year or two's time. Alot of money is currently being invested in MMO's, and the competition will soon be much more fierce.

When WoW shrinks, the current "New server" culture will have to change. It will no longer be possible to open up a new server whenever a bunch of people feel like re-rolling, and old servers will have to merge. Anyone who still feels like joining will have to get used to starting new characters on established servers, and dealing with all the ganking from high level characters and hefty competition for guild places that this entails.

i really don't believe they have that numbe atm, just counted the low population servers now at pick time... and there are 53 servers with low pops.

This only means one thing people leaving, but blizzard wont admit that.

    makes perfect sense imo

    to

merge low pop servers and then add NEW servers. If they do that then not so many will leave old under populated servers making them even more underpopulated for the new ones. So instead of having to add 5 new servers they only have to add 2.

Its about consolidating your population. Especially with as many servers as WoW has. Simply releasing new servers isn't good enough and wasnt good enough once they passed 100 servers. Heck in fact it wasnt good enough once they surpassed 50.

So now lets consolidate the low pop servers into a each other and then see how things settle out. Re release servers but at a slower pace to allow the population to settle out.

WoW thrives on servers that have adequate population levels. Has trouble when servers become overpopulated and as much trouble when they become under populated.

There IS no such thing as peak time in a MMORPG that has true worldwide release!

Have you ever heard of TIME ZONES?

Peak time in California (western USA) is not peak time in NY (eastern USA). Is DEAD time in Europe, is dead time in Asia.

Peak time in Europe is DEAD time in California, is dead time in NY, dead time in Asia.

Peak time in Asia is dead time in NY, dead time in Europe.

    Get tjhe idea?

BTW, what time zone are you in?

A server can litterally be full, for example have 12,000 players. Not all those players play at the same time.

It depends on the time zone of those players.

What counts is the number of game boxes sold, and even more - number of active subscriptions. That is it.

    ------------------------------------------------

Next, you have shown too much of your true colors now. Let me repeat what you have just said:

""" i really don't believe they have that numbe atm """

You litterally are saying YOU believe Blizzard is blatantly LYING about having more than 8 million players. Your proof that this multi million dollar company is blatantly lying? Some forum posts by some players. You found some threads made by some players - players who have zero access to Blizzards financial records, zero access to any of Blizzards inner buisness records.

I've been on these forums long enough to tell you this - Your same sad response has been used many times before. People claimed EQ was lying about its number of accounts. People claimed cSWG was lying about its number of accounts. ALL based on proof? No. Based on made up information, based on no information. Should I, or anyone at mmorpg.com now report you for NOT adding to any form of constructive discussion? Constructive discussion means always making an effort to List your sources, and proofs, backing up any points you have.  This way others can do their own checks, and the foundation of a constructive discussion starts.

Saying "I don't believe this, because I just don't want to" is a cop out. It means you are afraid of saying "I'm very sorry everyone. I don't have any access to Blizzard's financial records. I cannot provide any proof to show Blizzard does NOT have over 8 million accounts. I cannot provide proof that WoW has now reached peak growth and is now slowly sliding down. I stand corrected."

FIND a game you like and enjoy, and PLAY it! Go have some fun! Don't worry about WoW. Don't worry about trying to get attention on mmorpg.com.

Anyone who thinks WoW is LESS casual with the expansion is clearly disturbed.

And anyone who thinks a forum post represents all WoW players is just straight up retarded.

Hell I don't like WoW, if I make a post does it mean every else also hates it?
