Who really cares what npcs do . like am going to spend my game time hanging around my best friend in all of talon the light armor merchant in Khal the amount of time i spend interacting with npcs is minamal in the overall scope of my game play Theres one thing a game maker cant put in a game and its the ability to use your own imagination a bit . Gee sorry guys i cant run that dungeon with the guild tonight i promised all the npc's in Ca'ial Brael that i was going to hang with them gimmie a break lol
A lot of people care. To others, immersion is very important. When NPCs don't move and the world is generally bland, it detracts from the gameplay because it makes everything monotonous. It doesn't have to be insanely dynamic. It can be simple as various civilians walking around like in CoH or NPCs randomly talking to each other in WoW (which is recycled over and over).

If you dont like it and dont play it why are you on the vanguard forums, so you can spred lies and am suppose to just keep my mouth shut

Its just his opinion, you cant be a liar when you are expressing what you find interesting or dull, get a grip man.
He spits venom at the game, you spit venom at your fellow players with a different view point.. Think for a second before you get all defensive and take things so personally. Relax its just a game.
If i say Vanguard is the best game ever, and you say its horrible, whos the liar? Yeah, now you get it.
Am not defensive but am not going to listen to people saying that all the npcs just stand around when its a total lie its the same as any other mmo ive ever played , lots move around and patrol and lots just stand there doing there job and i never attacked anyone unlike buddy who told me point blank to shut up, alls i did was express my opinion too so get a grip yourself ok they arent lies more like half truths

I will concede that WoW and basically every other MMO out there are very similar in immersion. Yes, in every MMO the NPCs (at least the important ones) just stand in the same place, including VG. So why does VG seem more hollow and empty?
It's the tiny nuiances of other games that are not included in VG that makes the difference. What you consider unncessary (such as npc conversations...etc) others may find it interesting. It sets a tone for the game. It shows polish. It shows the devs went out of their way to add unnecessary (in terms of gameplay) things to make the world seem more alive. WoW does it. CoH does it. These games launched 3 years ago and they had it.
VG launched 2 months ago and they went backwards. VG is nothing more than a graphic update of EQ with some changes in game mechanics to make it slightly more friendlier to the casual crowd.
And if you read the post, you should be able to determine that Sigil did consider putting these so called "annoying" things in the game but they didn't want to risk more performance issues.

Well for one thing vanguard city's are big ,so you dont notice the npc,s moving around as much as alot of smaller citys in other games
And i agree i find that stuff interesting myself for about the second time i see or hear it than it just become something i race by as i go about my business and others games have very little of it. i played wow for a year and 1/2 and i didnt find it any different than vanguard and considering the size of citys there was even less moving around and doing things in blizzards citys and conversations ive seen the npc,s stop and talk to each other . no you cant hear what they say but i dont remeber seeing any in Wow that did it either they did the same thing as vanguards npc they went through the motions but no voices could be heard now i could be wrong becauase i havent played wow in 8 months so plz tell me if i am

What I love about CoH's system for this is that the conversations are triggered by character distance. As my Defender flies over a zone, for example, different bits and pieces of conversations will come and go across my screen as I make my way through, like they would in real life-- bad guys planning a crime, two citizens talking about random things, someone talking on their cell phone, etc.
Also, CoH added a great little mechanic where an NPC will notice if you changed your costume, defeated a big boss, or completed a big mission, since they'll say things like, "Hey, (Hero's name)! I like your new look!", or that they heard about your exploits on the news, saw them in the paper, or heard rumors about some big heist or conspiracy that you stopped. What makes it cool is that your character is mentioned by name, and it's a public comment, so others in the area can see it as well. It's a nice bit of an ego boost, which helps the player feel like a part of the game.
Sure, these are all small, unimportant things, but they make the world feel like it's alive. I never got that feeling in Vanguard, which is a shame.

Sure, these are all small, unimportant things, but they make the world feel like it's alive. I never got that feeling in Vanguard, which is a shame. Exactly. I loved the npcs in CoH. Some of their comments are hilarious. The entire zone could be empty of players but the city still looked alive. I also liked how if you clicked on civilians, they made a comment (sometimes useful like how many players are in the zone or total played time) depending on their first initial (of their name).
Ya that sounds really neat ive never had the urge to play a super hero type game but that does add alot to that game forsure ive heard the gameplay is super repetitive so that kinda scares me away from trying it
If a developer ever makes a fantasty game with CoH's combat, I'll be there in a heartbeat. CoH/V has the best combat of any MMO I've ever played. It is extremely chaotic and fun. And the ragdoll effects are awesome. Nothing beats kicking some Hellion off a tall skyscraper...
I'm taking a break from CoH/V right now until the new update goes live but I've been playing since launch. I personally don't see CoH/V being any more repetitive than any other MMO. What CoH/V doesn't have is crafting but that's changing with the next update. It is essentially all about combat and PvP.
Lol at the "seamless world", "third generation" game where they can't have a npc in a city smoke a pipe without the game crashing or people not being able to move.

Good evening, Vanguard forum. Allow me first to apologize for this interruption. I do, like many of you, appreciate the comforts of every day routine- the security of the familiar, the tranquility of repetition. I enjoy them as much as any bloke. But in the spirit of commemoration, thereby those important events of the past usually associated with someone's death or the end of some awful bloody struggle, a celebration of a nice holiday, I thought we could mark this January the 30th, a day that is sadly no longer remembered, by taking some time out of our daily lives to sit down and have a little chat. There are of course those who do not want us to speak. I suspect even now, orders are being shouted into telephones, and men with guns will soon be on their way. Why? Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this game, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. I know why you did it. I know you were bored. Who wouldn't be? WoW, EQ2, DAoC. There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason and rob you of your common sense. Hype got the best of you, and in your frenzy you turned to the now high chancellor, Brad McQuaid. He promised you excitement, he promised you a world, and all he demanded in return was your silent, obedient purchase. Last night I sought to end that silence. Last night I destroyed the Test Server, to remind this forum of what it has forgotten. Less than four months ago a great citizen wished to embed the 30th of January forever in our memory. His hope was to remind the world that vastness, grinding, and grinding are more than words, they are requirements. So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this developer remain unknown to you then I would suggest you allow the 30th of January to pass unmarked. But if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me one year from tonight, outside the gates of Sigil, and together we shall give them a 30th of January that shall never, ever be forgot.
Lol at the "seamless world", "third generation" game where they can't have a npc in a city smoke a pipe without the game crashing or people not being able to move.

What I got from the quote is this: Sigil can make the NPCs more dynamic if they chose to but it would cause even more performance issues than now.
They have lots of other things to worry about before dynamic NPCs. If it is implemented, it won't be for a very long time.
Do you even play Vanguard Spectralhunt , theres as much if not more activity by the npcs in vanguards citys as any mmo ive ever played lets look at the mighty blizzards Ironforge , lets see 2 thief catchers and a meat vendor and on weekends they had the battlground people walking around lol oh god so realistic . I used to dread the holiday's in WOW when blizzard would put in there holiday quests and npc and bork the game for 3 or 4 days till they got it running right again real fun
Right now am out in the middle of no where at an outpost called Wardship of the sleeping moon , theres guards patroling on flying mounts theres a few npcs moving around like what more do you guys want if thats not enough to kick start your own imagination than nothing is, what you need to be able to click on a npc and chat about the weather for 5 minutes or overhear every npcs conversation with each other i can tell you for most people thats gets irritating real fast

Look whos spitting venom lol. The game has just as much going on as any other mmo , the only ones standing around are the ones you want standing around like merchants and banker things you need to find and not waste time looking for
If you dont like it and dont play it why are you on the vanguard forums, so you can spred lies and am suppose to just keep my mouth shut
Its just his opinion, you cant be a liar when you are expressing what you find interesting or dull, get a grip man.He spits venom at the game, you spit venom at your fellow players with a different view point.. Think for a second before you get all defensive and take things so personally. Relax its just a game.
If i say Vanguard is the best game ever, and you say its horrible, whos the liar? Yeah, now you get it.
The game is Immersive and i really pity the people that dont think so because they oviously dont have a creative thought that ever runs through thier head

Some of their comments are hilarious. The entire zone could be empty of players but the city still looked alive. I also liked how if you clicked on civilians, they made a comment (sometimes useful like how many players are in the zone or total played time) depending on their first initial (of their name).
I'm taking a break from CoH/V right now until the new update goes live but I've been playing since launch. I personally don't see CoH/V being any more repetitive than any other MMO. What CoH/V doesn't have is crafting but that's changing with the next update. It is essentially all about combat and PvP.
