People can change. The only thing that matters to me is the game is adding a new combat system and it is new. I am tired of the same old games coming out over and over. The past year has been an utter dissapointment when it comes to MMOs and just from keeping in contact with people on the forums, watchind videos, and researching the game I have no reason to believe this game will suck.
i agree with you about the combat system and how failures in the past can be learned. FUNCOM so far has been on a good spin about showing the game what it offers, and the game offers quite a bit, both improved froma visual perspective, but more importantly the combat system is very inventive and good new approach to reinvigorate the Genre. I agree that this year and part of last was a total disaster, horrible MMO's nothing new, same old crap recycled by one company after another. good to see some new ideas coming to bare.
I also belive this game will not suck in fact I have very reason to believe this will be FUNCOMs moment of redemption for the horrible affair that was the launch of AO. bit soon right now, but so far they are definitely ont he right path and the future looks bright.

I somehow get the impression that your the type that gets into early beta, see's the game is buggy, incomplete, lacking content, laggy, etc, and goes 'welp, this game blows. I'm never gonna come back to it' and leaves beta, barely after 'testing' the game, and considers it the state of the game at release.
There are a lot of these folks running around. I'm sure theres quite a few on these forums. A sadly growing crowd.
one thing you learn as a true beta tester is to be unbaised, non judgemental and approach the game as a problem solver/trouble shooter. find out issues, bugs, and glitches and report them to the devs. alot of people forget that the reason they are in a beta is to act as form of Quality and Assurance, we get to play the game test it out, break it in, push it to the breaking point til something cracks, in return to have the opportunity to watch first hand a game evolve.
I have beta tested for numerous MMO's and even repatches/redesigns for single player games. I even beta tested for F-18 Korea 1.3 Open GL patch :P for mac anyone remember that? i had the honor of beta testing it for OPENGL lol was a cool sim back in its day. found some bugs , and other graphical issues.
I always looked at the game not as a free ride, but a chance to learn the game, get familiar with it, and know what to look for, and troubleshoot, and report tot he devs so theyc an fix things so other people who end up buying it have a workable game. Never play a game as BEta and think that is what the game is gonna be at launch. though I will admit there are a few exceptions >nudge< > nudge< lol starts witha V ends with a D hahaha

I played Anarchy Online for a very long time, and feel I had a lot of experience in it. I worked as an ARK (Customer Service rep) for 3 & a half years. So I spent a lot of time working with both Funcom employees working on the game, and customers playing the game. IMO, Funcom has spent a lot of effort in AO ensuring it was a large game with a lot of different ways to reach end game. Whether you chose to run missions or grind mob camps around RK, or even running the higher missions and grinding hecklers in SL you still had choices. A lot of bugs were fixed over the years, some making the game better, some just making it work. But they sure did spend a lot of time fixing it, and I felt the expansions that I saw come to fruition were good. I was playing AO before Notum Wars, back when people were getting banned for duping creds. I played far into the game beyond Alien Invasion right until just before Lost Eden was released. I think the OP's opinion is a bit rough, when you weigh into account how many player concerns were addressed by Funcom and that they not only had player-volunteer "Advisors" who brought issues to the attention of Funcom staff, but also players who were -class leaders- of their class within the game and spoke to developers on behalf of their class. I think you've got to consider that Funcom really did listen to their fan base, and made countless efforts to fix problems iwth the game. Credit where credit is due, I think Funcom is a great company to build us Age of Conan, if for no other reason than their prior experience developing Anarchy Online.
this is another fine point stated to the OP

They had a rough start with AO. But once they fixed most of the bugs, i really enjoyed AO. I played for 2-3 years, had a few 200 char, severals 150+, and when i left the game back last year, a 205 fixer, at one time i had 3 accounts running. So yes i trust them to make AoC a good game. Just don't expect to have a bug free game on launch, hell you know many bug free mmo launch ?
AO was my entry to the genre, besides MUDs.. and it rocked my world.
I have no doubt that they will stand up to this, considering their experience. They might have made some errors with cusotmer service, and wrong promises.. (its called hyprocrisy, widespread through out bussiness and politics.. you know to reach all levels... )
They have some of the best exp in business, and they already showed their innovative potential in AO, with instancing and their great skill/implant system.

Your impressions are wrong (what else is new)... I have only been able to get into 2 betas (COH and LOTR).. Both times I left feedback (both on the beta forums and ingame) on every bug I encountered, glitch, etc. I also provided feedback (especially in COH, lot of good that did) on what additions or changes I thought should be made. And participated in the forum debates and feedback discussions.
So you can keep your stupid generalizations to yourself fanboi, I know its hard for you when someone says something negative about your game but some of us don't bash for the hell of it. Some of us look through all those smoke screens and pretty lights and we see the flaws. I have been a active member over on the OFFICIAL AOC boards since April of 05, not many here can say that.
I have followed this game for a long long time, I don't think know one wants it to work more then me... But at the same time I see things that remind me of the flaws that I noticed in Funcoms other title, and ignoring them and/or pretending that I do not see them is not going to make it go away.. Nor will the foolish logic of "its beta, they will get it fixed". Expecially when you consider that they have not 'fixed' some of these problems in a game that has been out for years.

Why some people don't like AO? Well it's old and people think it will look like WoW and it don't when they try it out... tho sometimes it look better. ^^
And AO is more a game for adults then kids. So kids not like it. Or they don't "understand" it that well and by that they think it sucks.
AoC is also a game made for adults. And I hope it will stay that way.
And every company are good at talking. Making people happy and make up dreams etc. Then in the end most of them can't give it. It's normal... you look at a trailer of a movie and thinking "damn this one look cool" then you press play and it sucks... normal... it happens...
But no one can be like SOE, they are the worst of them all. And will never be able to clear the bad history. Never.
I personaly don't care about the bugs that much ! As long as there within reason. ( not like VG but more like GW ) there allways have been bug allways will be But I am concerned with core game play such as raides that work for a average casual player ! economys that work ! fun and rewarding end game content etc...ect....

It's amazing people still pull out AO as a bad example.
AO has probably one of the best but most overseen expansions.
Shadowlands simply kicked ass and still does.
Will they succed with AOC.
Hopefully or else we have Warhammer to look forward too.
Shadowlands (AKA EQ1.5) was one of the most alien Expansions to a game that I have ever had the misfortune to play.
It completly ruined the AO world for me and many others as people got fed up, pissed off, bored of the grind and timesink, and eventually left.
Sadest day of my life was when I gave up all my tower controlled PVP land due to the fact that noone was playing and/or attacking them anymore. Hell it was a good thing in a way since hardly anyone was around to help me defend (former guild mates included).
But look don't take my word for it here is a post dated back around the time that SL came up that explains its problems in greater detail.
And this is just another reason why many of us remain skeptical of FC. If they eventually came out with a expansion to AOC set in a Star Wars universe it would not shock me one bit.

You're so sceptic thats hard to take you serious,i know AO in a diffrent way than you in a more positive way, look forward to WAR(atleast i won't see you there)
My experience with Funcom is a bit limited as I only played AO for a few weeks. The Original Poster doesn't sound that much different than those who dislike SOE, a company I do have a lot of experience with. I didn't play AO long enough to really see what changes or improvements Funcom made, sure I didn't have the best gaming experience when I first started, however what MMO upon launch is going to have a 'completed' game and bug free game? While I played I did contact Funcom Customer support and they responded in a timely fashion, my problem wasn't resolved, but I attribute that to continued bug fixes at the time.
I'm not going to let my experience with AO turn me into a complete cynic, however I would have liked the OP to give some substantive and objective examples of what they were experiencing with Funcom.

Your just a blind fanboi who refuses to think negative about the game you love. But trust me when this game launches your going to be forced to do just that.
Funcom has a history of making very well rounded games (AO, LG) but they also have a history of dropping the ball big time (AO launch, SL expansion, releasing SL around the same time of SWG)..
A famous person once said that those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. So you have to forgive me when I don't hold my breath and think that AOC will be they holy grail of MMORPG's and walk on water like most of you fanbois seem to think.

I think AoC will do very well. I played AO from the start on RK1. It was probably the best experience in an mmo Ive had. I think part of the problem is that the inital game (Beyond the rough launch) and notum wars was a solid game and a ton of fun. Taking down Storm with my guild (Legion 4 life!!) and other OT was amazing. Tara raids and holding box while another group were killing tara was so fun. Than Shadowlands came out and I have to say it was a bit underwhelming in the long term. Also it seemed that the initial dev team went to AoC (I could be wrong) and any sense of balancing classes and things like that were gone. Graphics were never updated and the lost eden expansion was crap. I think these things are what give some people a bad taste, it was like they made there money and moved on, and forgot the customer.
Im looking forward to AoC and I also like the fact that they have their own graphics engine instead of another game using the Unreal engine.
Funcom really turned around AO after a very bad launch.
If you look at recent patch notes, they ARE listening to their fan base. Any gaming company will have discrepancies between what they implement and what the fan base wants.
I think that with the AoC beta starting we will get a better idea on how well Funcom will listen to user feedback for AoC.
FunCom wooed med with AO's promises of greatness. I even went as far as applying for a job as mapper for AO. I wanted to be part of this great thing, this revolution. Release came and hearts were torn asunder. The salty tears of broken promises turned the world to mud.
Despite the MMORPG roller-coaster ride that was AO, FunCom has yet again managed to woo me with promises of greatness and wonder.
I will eagerly await the release and buy the game, even upgrade my PC to a powerhouse to play it.
Why, you ask?
Why do I risk the chance of getting my heart broken again by empty promises?
I'll tell you why.
FunCom dares to dream. FunCom dares to innovate in a genre dominated by 3D-Diablo clones.
Just curious about this given funcoms widely known rep as a greedy company who half ass does everything and lies to there customers do you have faith they will be any different for AoC?
I played Ao for a number of years I am fully aware of how funcom works and how they handle there player base and have handled there player base for years.I have heard lie after lie after lie told to there customers,I have seen expansion packs released like AI with the main feature of the expansion pack(player shops) not even added into the game till 6 months after ppl paid them for the expansion.
Just curious to you AoC fans if you really think given Funcom's track record that they will somehow manage to do this game right and actually treat there customers better than they have the last 6 years.
Personally i do not believe you ever played AO, AO went onto win the Game of the year after its dismal release. I do not believe you even know what you are talking about. More then likely you read about the bad release of AO and just assumed that the game went down the crapper ever since. Far from it in fact AO was groundbreaking in several areas. Flying mounts were first introduced in AO, most don't know that but its true.
As far as your misleading Title, Funcom has produced anything but bad titles. Longest Journey is acclaimed as one of the best games EVER, and AO as i stated above was made Game of the year by a few respected Game magazines of the time.
You telling us you played AO has to be false unless you left when class balancing issues affected your particular class. Well poo poo class balancing happens in all MMOs in fact one of the biggest MMOs WoW just released a very controversial patch effectively nerfing a large portion of its classes and upsetting alot of players in the process. Does that make WoW unsuccessful now ?? Highly doubtful.
So if your gonna come here and make statements You seem to think are true then back em up with facts, sad thing is i guarantee you won't have them cause as i said AO is very successful and still very popular.

maybe aoc will be ok..but i give less then 10%
funcom made= crap

So you still have no real reasons or worries about the game, just want to pick on the developer?
