Just wondering why theres so much hype about this game... To me it appears to be just like WoW.. Swarms of people eager to jump into a classic theme, even though the game sports no PVP? i suppose pvp isnt as important everyone... but personally a game with no pvp whatsoever doesnt deserve even a second look. So i was wondering what you're guys reasons are for playing this game... other than "DOOD its LOTR!"

You sure you have the right game?
Knowledge is power.. get some.
and as a side note: why would a game with no pvp not deserve a second look? There are plenty of fun games that are single player and multiplayer with no pvp. It's just video games man.

If somebody plays a monester is is a PC now. If I go in with my character it is a PC.
My character vs his character
Player vs Player.

LOL time investment!
IT'S BLOODY VIDEO GAME!!!!
The point of most games is FUN, I don't play to show off my gear to some guy I've never met in some country I've never been to. I play to escape the biting realities of everyday life and enjoy my free time. I've played many games in my 32 years of life, and most of them DIDN'T have PvP.. but I still enjoyed them.. crazy eh???
I could go for a game of Qbert right now!
But aside from that.. you still think that LOTRO has no pvp?
EDIT: Just a comment on the topic of this thread.. you are asking us to tell you why we like it.. READ SOME OF THE OTHER THREADS ON THIS BOARD AND YOU WILL FIND PLENTY OF INFORMATION. IF YOU HAD DONE THIS YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE MADE THE MISTAKE OF THINKING THIS GAME HAS NO PVP.

Probably because if the OP can't gank lowbies all day long its not fun.-Currently looking forward to FFXIV

You sound very emotionally needy.

PvP should allow you to demonstrate your skills...and your time investment only in the sense that a player who has played more has more experience (i.e. game knowledge) than a player who is new to the game.
If a game's PvP is gear-centric, meaning what you are wearing is what matters in the fight, then it might as well be GvP (Ganker vs. Player) If you NEEDED to spend those hundreds of hours raiding to get those items to compete, then "ur skills" quite frankly mattered little.
Who raids for 10 hours in 1 sitting? Also, yes, when I raided in WoW I raided because I found it fun.
Wow, you really don't have a leg to stand on in this argument do you..
My work is done here.

Lol you guys are blowing this out of perportion... im not saying raiding isnt fun.. im saying that PERSONALLY Grinding isnt whats fun to me.. its what get form it... like items and levels... and FOR ME the funnest way to use these items ive worked hard for is pure PVP.. not using my new found items and experience to start a new grind..rinse and repeat.
I understand i may have offended you guys by consuming your 4.5 seconds to post "DO MORE RESARCH! THERES PVP!" but what i am trying to highlight is the fact that pvp seems TO ME to be put on the back burner, where as I prefer a more forfront aproach to it. The purpose of the post was to try and get some insight into your guys reasons to play since it obviously isnt for pvp. Instead you all have resorted to childish flaming in an attempt to defend the game.. in which i never was attacking.. just questioning

You'd have to give it a try to decide for yourself on LOTRO's PvP. Some enjoy it, some don't.
I love it and am eagerly awaiting May so I can build my MP's up.
The gear will play a part, as your good characters will use said gear in battle, and it will make a difference.
Open Beta starts soon, get in on it (it's free) and see how it works for you.
--If I sounded angry it's just because of the initial remarks you made in the other thread about 'carebear game' and another WoW, etc. Sounded very trollish to me, and I don't like trolls. But if you are seriously interested in the game I retract my heated remarks and invite you to come enjoy middle-earth with the rest of us.
ok ok your argument is just buuuut, your still not making much sense!! pvp in LOTRO is not what your thinking it is. MP pvp is a double edged sword. you can build your character to go out and pvp against other peeps who are building up their sick ass monster toon. you do get to use items youve searched for and looted and made and all that good shite. but now heres the kicker... you can take a break from that and build a completely new monster toon that you can "invest" your time in as well. MP is not player verses npc monster... its player verses other players!! that my friend IS pvp. Its also very very very fun!! it gave me an option to get used to the games pvp befor my main toon was even slightly ready for it.
in LOTR, it wouldnt make sense to have the heros of middle earth fighting against each other. so instead of "leaving pvp out all together", they created a way for us to have the best of both worlds. given this is not like WoW for the fact that your main toon is not a minion of mordor. this kinda upset me too... until i tried lotro's version of pvp. now im addicted! you could be too if you like WoW pvp. you still get to do your lil showing off thing that you seem to like PLUS you get to try out a completely different aspect of the game instantaniously!
sheesh
yes this game sucks. it is for lotr hardcare fans only.
Yes, power-levelers, hardcore gamers and uber leets PvP'ers will hate this game.
Its all story driven PvE quests.
LOTRO doesn't need everyone to like them.
Gee, the 7 servers that they are starting with, are going to be bad enough on friday with 60,000 pre-order customers trying to login.
"Don't corpse-camp that idea. Its never gonna rez"
Bladezz (The Guild)
I think they are starting with more than 7, they just pre-announced the first 7 names they decided on. I'll search rof a link, I may be wrong.
And I think it can apply to all types of, theres enough sideways development (achievements, deeds, etc) on top of the exploration anhd quests to keep a person busy, possible enough for the hardcore. I play usually 8-10 hrs a day, I work full-time so I am limited there, but from beta I found there to be alot I wanted to accomplish.
With the addition of housing down the road, and the current evolution of the music mechanics, LOTRO even has something for your sandbox gamer. I'm sure we'll see more here too.
Also there were alot of PvP-only players who spent most of their time in ettenmoors awaiting freeps, with a larger population on the way we'll see long sieges, and with expansion, PvP might prove to be a huge draw.
All of this is of course in addition to the fun quest lines. Rereading the books again now, and it's interesting to step right into the game and see all of the connexions. They've done an amazing job tying it all together, and I had to stop myself from getting into too many quests. The few I did were good enough that I decided to save the rest for release. I'm usually the guy who skips over the quest text, but I decided to take the time to read into the lines and some are very well written.
If you want real PvP, go play a God Wars mud. After all PvP is about skills.....
LOTRO has a form of PvP, and I prefer it. I also think that WAR will have a better form of PvP than WoW.
I can't wait for AOC and WAR to near release, because I'm tired of people bashing LOTRO.
(And yes, I will probably buy one or both of them too.)
