Monster PVP shouldn't even be in the same category as regular PVP.  Turned me off completly.  Uninstall...wait for Conan.  But some people like it...good on them.  I personally hate playing pre-made level 50 monsters...what's the fun in that?  And you STILL have to do quests in monster PVE/P...why would I do that when i can level up my main.

Oh I see it was just a joke. A joke that was repeated at least twice. I can definately see a joke, the joke is the fact you had to pretend you were joking just to justify that all your talk on this thread was opinionated.

Sure, I could be wrong. But judging your responses on this thread and your lack of factual information.... I doubt it.

No answer to my question gameloading?  Once again what did I make up in my post about quests?  The apple thing was a reference to the starter area for Orcs and the quest to pick apples off of the cactus trees.  The DAoC references were to the starter area of mag mell in hibernia and what the rewards were for the different classes I started. :)

What part of "Imo" did you not understand? all of my posts were oppinions. I made that clear right from the start.

Yes, you could be wrong. in fact, you ARE wrong, you think I don't know what the word "PVP" means? is that it? You think that after roughly 2 years of posting on this forum, many years of mmo gaming, I don't know what PVP is? Get real.

I was simply joking. I think the real reason your mad is because I'm bashing your game.

And before you say well that history shows no one will get more subscribers.  History showed no one would get more then Everquest 1 had.  But we can see know that wasn't true.  History doesn't always predict the future.  Especially in a genre that is so new that no one has an idea where it will be in the future.  Really the MMO genre has no robust history to use to predict what will happen.   As broadband has become more widespread the genre has become bigger.  As we the gaming age get older and our kids game and then their kids game the audience gets larger.  So what makes you possibly think that No other game will catch on fire and bring new players to the MMO genre?
Turbine's history shows they aren't able to deliver a product that is good enough to acheive WOW type sub numbers.

The genre is still too new.  The history doesn't matter when the genre is still expanding.  Blizzard's history didn't support that they would get this many subscribers either.  If you played at release you would know that.  The servers always had a ton of queues they were blown away by the amount of people and had no idea.  So you can't base it on history.  Plus A Lord of the rings MMO has no history.  Neither does a Warhammer one, or a Star Trek one, or a Stargate one, etc.

As shown by WoW the history of the genre has nothing to do with new games coming out.  Each are unique do to the worlds they are being built on.

I did play WOW at release, but you know what they say about ppl that ASSume.  Blizzard had a history of making great games, so their history of success was proven far before WOW was released.  Turbine has a recent history of putting out 2nd rate MMOs and their subscription numbers have reflected that.  I hope LOTRO is better then their last attempts, as it's a great IP and would be ashame for them to waste another strong IP.

What does DDO, AC2, or AC have to do with LOTRO?  Nothing at all.  To an non MMO veteran they won't even know what AC, AC2, or DDO is.  So that is a mute point.  When I played World of Warcraft for 2 years and spoke with people in game you know what the most popular answer was for a person previous MMO game?  Diablo 2.  Which isn't even a MMO.  So these people as they get tired of World of Warcraft,  which is inevitable even the best games eventually lose their fans interests, they will be looking for a new game to play.  These people who went from Bnet to WoW won't care about the history of game developers.  They aren't going to care that Turbine never had a huge hit before.  They don't care that SOE destroyed SWG.  They don't care who Brad Mcquaid is.  These people don't give a rat's ass about the rest of the genre's history.  What will get them is when they go into their local Gamestop, EBgames, Bestbuy, etc and see the box sitting there for Lord of the rings online and they say hey this looks cool.

We the MMO veterans are a vast minority of the market.  So most people who end up playing LOTRO are not going to care about Turbines recent history.

If you don't think a developers history has any indication as to what they can deliver on future titles you don't have a fundamental understanding of the game industry.

I dont know, but this has to be one of the most silly discussions its no better then the eq2 vs wow discussions ugh. I do know lotro is still unique in its own way from wow and almost every mmorpg is a clone in some form or another. Except the differance is some games are more pve and some are more pvp if you have issues with lotro then dont play it that simple some of us like the pve oriented and rather enjoy the way the game is.

Honestly if you like wow stick with it, I understand if some of you are looking for something way differant but sadly you just have to wait go to console for a while, but from what it sounds like lotro is still differant just maybe not in every way.

1.) WOW is itself a "clone," in somuch that it has succesfully watched previous MMORPGs, learned form them, and taken the best features.  People usually refer to WOW as the be-all-end-all MMORPG, because its success in sales.  While it is very successful, some people still can't stand the game.

2.) I like LOTRO's less cartoony art direction.

3.) LOTRO will cater towards Tolkien fans, but will not be a "WOW-killer."

MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan

Well it probably will make wow drop more if most adults switch to lotro because of the art design since many say it gives a more mature feeling to the game, and you never know what they might add in the future.

I agree not sure why people have to keep comparing games to wow. The only way i think its similar is in the fact that both games are easy to pick and play.

As for the person way way back inthe thread who said something about comparing Archlord with Wow well i nearly died laughing. How can anyone compare  that junk to wow is beyond me. Its not even in the same ball park. Hell its not even in the same sport .

Greatness is difficult to appreciate from close up. The great mountain on the horizon is only the ground when you are standing on it.

  • AngelboundAngelbound Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,437
Sigh again just like wow cloned off other things but only in certain aspects, the game had some uniquness to it just like lotro geesh stop reading into so much people just have fun or stick to consoles.
  • YarrrghYarrrgh Member Posts: 5
My feeling after 2 months of LOTRO is that it has key elements directly ripped off from WOW . Art direction itself is average to mediocre, wit hsome aspects of graphics sub par (as if the turbine engine running AC2 was in no way updated). LOTRO itself has a poor label on the LOTRO franchise (wish someone else woudl do LOTR justice. Grab peter jackson to helm a game woudl be nice)

Ok so you didnt like the game your entitled to your opinion, the game just is not for you. Butt here is not anything we or anyone else can do about it so whats the point in coming in here and calling it a wow clone? You are just going to have to find other forms of entertainment to hold you over.

download and play WoW free 10 day trial client

document your experience, create a nice write up, print it out, and show it to your grandmother.

there, now you just discussed the "differences in LOTRO and WoW...."

It's amazing that this thread so quickly became 10 pages with mostly 2-3-4 posters...
