Q1 is still winter season. In January of 07 150k people bought Vanguard and 2.something million people bought TBC. January seems like a fine time for launch.
Launching a game during christmas season adds a high chance of children who act like chidlren getting into the game right from launch.
what does it matter this is so overated what else it is going up against isnt just aoc all u ppl think how bout goh cuz thats the game that i think will shine and break threw but ya aoc will too

That's why I said that January wouldn't be so bad --- March would cost the game quite a few subs, I think, as compared with a launch during high winter in the northern hemisphere.
Knowing Mythic, it will be ready very close to their targeted date. They didn't push back DAoC once and it released right when they planned. It was also the smoothest release of an MMO I had ever experienced, including WoW. I'd guess it will be ready in November.
Very heartening to hear the history of DAOC's launch.
And that was Mythic's first MMORPG, now they're an experienced MMORPG company.
And as distrustful as I was of the EA merger, having their enormous resources should help keep things on schedule. So long as EA stays smart and let's Mythic call the shots.
You all assume elves aren't done or being worked on. First off most of the core systems are done/getting polished so they aren't stuck working on those while doing elves. Second character designs are done it is just a matter of creating them in the computer which doesn't take months. That leaves animation and terrain which I am sure they are working on as we speak. Remember that everything we get shown needs to be recorded, edited, and approved. Things we have been shown could literally be months behind of what they are actually working on.
As for a short beta? Since orks and dwarves were in place there has been internal EA friends/family testing, and EA is huge!. Your thinking of the game as a whole where Mythic is doing modules. The are testing things as they go and when its good it gets a stamp to move on to closed beta. Closed beta 1 will find the serious bugs that in-house didn't. The larger closed beta will find any population related bugs as well as offbeat bugs that make it polished. Since in-house is working even now, what seems like a short beta isn't. When it hits closed beta 1 it will already be pretty polished.
I believe they will release in November or Q4 as planned. They already said a few times they were ahead of the schedule so lets hope it stays that way. If they do push back release they will lose people to AoC that might be hooked on the game.

Here www.mythicentertainment.com/history/ is a page on the history of Mythic. They have 12 years of online gaming experience. DAoC was the first true MMO, but they've had many other online games dating as far back as 1985. Lots of experience and you can just see they love developing games. I believe Paul Barnett is the perfect spokesman for Mythic. While everyone isn't as expressive about the games when they talk, you can see it in their work.
Sanya Thomas is one of my favorite Mythic employees. I read her site back when she was Tweety playing EQ. Some very colorful remarks by her. Then Mythic brought up the Camelot Herald and she was the frontperson between the playerbase and the developers. The Grab Bag was one of the best things about the Herald. Every week on Friday, she'd take a collection of questions that players submitted using the feedback form and she'd take those to the devs and have them answered as best she could. Then it would be compiled into an article and published on Friday's. It showed not only that Mythic cares about the concerns of it's playerbase, it showed that the feedback form wasn't just there to look like a customer service form. The feedback was read and real attempts were made to address players concerns.
Of all MMO developers, I have the most respect for Mythic. And that's why I am so interested in playing WAR. I was following Warhammer Online back when Climax had it, but I wasn't as interested in it. Once I heard Mythic was taking over, it just seemed like the wisest choice Games Workshop could have made for a developer of their Fantasy IP.

I would have to agree wholeheartedly.
They had their ups and downs with class balance issues during the life of DAOC, and they often pandered to the VNBoard Junkies whining about this and that (which is good in a sense because they are listening to their player base), but in the long run on a PvP level I can't remember any other game being that fun. And i'm an old schooler from the release of UO (Dreadlord Sinvral in the house!), but DAOC relic raids and keep take -n- holds were a blast.
I think and hope they have learned from their mistakes when adding repetitive/boring pve content ala TOA.

The fact that they pretty much admitted their mistake and released classic servers is a sure sign that they've learned from their mistakes.
As for when I think the game will release.... Tomorrow? *sigh* A man can dream, can't he? Although I honestly have faith that Mythic will be able to make the Novemberish release. Early development of the game was sluggish, but lately we've been given a steady stream of new content through the official site and newsletters. I'm willing to guess that just about all the games basic code and engine are done, so all that's left is actually creating the content and balancing classes. Obviously art development plays a large role, too, but even in that department they have plenty of material to use as a base.
I don't think there will be any reason for Mythic to delay the release of the game further, barring some significant and unforeseen setback.
I hope for a release before the end of the year, but I'm realistic and will be content with the game releasing when Mythic thinks it's ready, regardless of when that will be.
Your video game saviour is developed by Funcom. Those kooky Scandinavian guys what brought you Anarchy Online. The game what still has glaring bugs from launch. The game what released in one of the worst states I've ever seen an MMO in. The game what didn't have a secure web page for your credit card information.
So I wish you good luck with your Holy Grail of MMOGdom, AoC.
And before you sputter off some rant about how AoC is the second coming of Raptor Jesus because you can swing your sword around in a pseudo-FPS fashion, I'd like to remind you that all your arguments have been run into the ground by the D&L fans.
IF you check his history, SBE1 seems to hold resentment towards Mythic for Trials of Atlantis, and never got over it. Plus, all his "wow clone" talk is apparently based on screenshots. Without starting a debate on the similarites of the two games' art styles, I'll just say his opinion isn't based on any real evidence.
He's just holding a grudge. Leave him to his delusions.
Seriously. It's Are'el. This forum doesn't allow apostrophes in usernames.
Got the most recent newletter in the mail today, and I cannot fathom how anyone not taking vast quantities of drugs could think the two games look similar.
I think both games, AoC and WAR, will be a hit. I do not get why every discussion has to turn into a epeen battle, especially for two games that at 6+ months away from coming out.

Simple. They relate MMOs to the Highlander.
There can be only one!

Its really impossible to speculate on a release date. Sure, they bumped it to 1st quarter of '08, but on the same note their development curve is probably increasing immensly, meaning the 'polish' they are looking for will occur faster than it did with the first racial pairing. That being said, who can predict that there server farms will not need tweaking or even a major overhall prior to release to handle the predicted load. With all of the variables to be considered trying to guess at a date will just drive you mad. Best to just enjoy Mythics development transperancy.

Oh, you poor, dumb bastard...
Might want to get the wood and nails ready.
Oh, and by the by, for all the AoC cheerleaders.

near the end of the year or early next year... I hope and it gives me enough time to save up for a computer
I want Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoing
And first of all: Not Warhammer copied Warcraft, Warcraft copied Warhammer, back in the days it evolved.
Same here! Seems there's plenty of time to save now.
