That does not negate the responsibility MMORPG.com has to prevent their users from having their PC's infected by a virus they know is there.  They should have taken the site offline.

If I get fired... I will persue legal action.

If you get fired, perhaps you shouldn't have been scouring MMORPG at work. You don't have a case. MMO would not have gotten you fired in this case, your behavior did.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

AVG did not stop a virus on my old machine, so no I do not recommend that one..pretty much you get what you pay for. The one I recommend is PC Cillen Trend Micro software. Isn't a workhorse like norton and Macafee either, don't even know it is in the back running on my machine.

Trend is good, but AVG is best as far as free anti-virus software goes. And no anti-virus gets every virus everytime, especially if it is a new attack that hasn't been processed through all the anti-virus databases. Usually, I'll scan with AVG, and then hit the Trend online scanner just to be safe. It's the same with anti-spyware. Two scans with two different scanners is always a good idea.

I just had my WoW account looted (gold and items mailed off to another account).  On scanning, it turns out the one virus I had was the one from here (which McAfee couldn't remove, but I removed manually thanks to a post from Jade in the Tech Help section of these forums).

I suspect that this version of the virus was modified to get WoW passwords instead of or in addition to L2/LoM.

No friends or anyone else known to me have my password; I do not know what other than this could have gotten me looted - but it could be coincidence.

Anyone else with the same problem?

Me to.... went through the proper channels to recover my account and when i relogged in come to find out all my character were there but all my goodies/loot is all gone.  They left me with 32 copper.  Is it possible to contact a GM and get said items returned?

I saw an article about this. It was saying how hackers have found a way to exploit 'animated cursors' is it? Anyway, WoW is being heavily targetted for passwords and that. (sorry will try find article and post it here)

Yes. Go to the support page and contact accounts. They will send your case in for investigation, and normally they refund your stuff. I had my password stolen as well. Basically Windows had a nice hole in it, and they took too long to close it up.

Don't feel bad, I am behind a Firewall and it still got stolen. I have talked to others who have Anti-virus, Anti-Spyware, and software firewalls as well, and they still had their passwords stolen. There's basically not much you could do until Microsoft patched the hole.
Some programs caught it, some didn't.

BTW, I suggest everyone make sure their copy of Windows is up to date, or this can still happen to you.

The smarmy bastards left me with 69 copper on all my characters. :p

I had my account hacked and password changed... Once i got it back, my 67 orc warrior and 51 paladin were completly naked, stripped of everything.   Infact, once i got some gear for my paladin on the AH, the account got hacked again and the shit was looted.

Thanks for not warning us earlier MMO.com

Nope. It is an ActiveX trojan and Firefox doesn't execute ActiveX. So if you use Firefox, you are perfectly safe from this. Yes it affects mozzila users cause I got it as well, except it was called PWS-Banker something or other.. and I dont use IE...

I got this virus also.  Went right through mcaffey and initially I couldn't get rid of it.  Restarted the comp and did a full scan, then was able to delete it.

Hopefully it does not make a reappearance.

I must add now to be the first.   Keep buying your stuff, promote these companies.   Do you really think they just farm the stuff they get?  If you do the math for profits it makes really perfect sense.  This isnt individuals who do this.
