Is this game entertaining?

mmofanaticmmofanatic Member UncommonPosts: 136

Hello everyone,

Ive been looking for an MMO that is different from what is out now, WoW, EQ, Vanguard, and i was wondering if this game is any fun?

Is it worth even takeing a look into, ive tried a lot of MMO's lately and none of them have interested me. I would like to hear some peoples opinions about this game.

thank you

The kind of entertainment value you get out of Eve is similar to kicking the crutch out from under a guy with a broken leg and then laughing in his face as he lays there struggling to get back up. Its a pathetic game filled with scammers, thieves and griefers using every sort of trick they know to exploit the new character. If that appeals to you then don't bother with a trial account just start paying for it from day one, don't let the fact that the gaming staff are as corrupt as a Mafia fund raiser.

I'd say to give it a try. Nothing to lose with the Free Trial.

There a lot of good point to this game.

One of the points many like is that skills are trained over time. You can basically set a skill, go offline and comeback later and it will be done. The drawback is that you can only train one at a time.

You can be anything... Miner, Manufacturer, Bounty Hunter, Military, Transporter or Smuggler, Pirate, Criminal, Crime Lord, etc...or a Jack of all trades. It depends what skills you learn.

Some people will say that it would be impossible to compete (PvP) with the veteran players. But in fact it is possible, it won't be easy but possible. PvP is open, if you are in a low security system you are as fair game as a cow on a butcher shop. Obviously you'll be safer in high security systems.

The universe is HUGE. Over a thousand systems to explore.

Four playable races with 3 subraces (if you can call them that) each.

There is so much to say about the game. So my recommendation is to go and try it.

    Ignore the nay-sayers.

I agree.  Definitely try out the 14 day free trial to see if you like it =) EVE is a game that is not for everyone.

Just go to www.eve-online.com and click try it.

    Enjoy

That post made my sanity leave me running against a brick wall while it was winking from the beach with a pina colada in its hand.

@OP: I cannot emphasis enough my initial statement. Anyway try it for yourself. Check the official forums. Learn the ropes. In the trial you tackle only a very small amount of what is possible and of what you can do in EVE but it's a good start.

My apologies but I'm still looking for my sanity so don't mind me for not going into more detail now. To break it down quickly, it is the most enjoyable MMO I played and yes it is quite different from the ones you spoke of.

Check out this WMV (127MB !) This is EVE and the EVE Trial.

As many will agree, I am no fan of CCP (read up on how they cheat in the game and favor their buddies, on these forums and many others, and you may not be either...), BUT, give the trial a go, the game is top notch, but to pay for it means enabling the poor behavior of CCP and many people will not do so and instead pay other companies to play other games.

Get informed, make an informed choice. (it isn't about the game, it is about supporting a company that has no regard towards its paying customers.

    { Mod Edit }

    To the OP

Well one thing i wills ay straight away is that EvE is very different to the games you ahve listed as they are all Grinding level ballbusters in a fantasy setting.

Eve is definatly interesting but first you need to learn how to paly eve which involves the long tutorial and a while elarning some needed skills and gaining gaming experience. But if you persevere you will find a good game here.

You are the one who needs to get informed. All you do is spread lies. Believing that all of CCP is a broad sweeping generalizations. That'd be like saying all forum posters are trolls based on the fact that you, a single person are a troll. It just isn't right.

It's a very big game emr... sand-box. At first you might think "Eee... What now?" because no one is holding your hand and telling you what to do. Join a friendly corp asap and ask em to guide you around a bit and show you how it's done. I did that and after 7 days of trial I bought the game (only so I could fly Bestower), now my char is 11 days old and I have 30 mil ISK all made by trading. And all that ISK will come in handy because now I'm working on my combat side of the char (I have balanced stats so I can do just about anything and not suffer a lot by lack of stats in some fields). So yeah... You need money to have fun in EvE, but for some making money is fun for itself (like me... I'm a trade! ). You can do NPC missions (all sorts of missions - from delivery, to mining, killing, patrolling and so on), they are nice source of income for new players (if you have combat char) or mining - You can pull in some sick ISK with mining (ofc. it helps to have mining char to start from). Don't like PvE? Pick a solder or special ops (fighter char) and try yourself as pirate. You will die a lot and lose lot's of ships but if you hit the right person you'll make millions in 5 min.

And more ISK = better skills, better guns, better ships = more fun

But get in to corporation asap (guilds in EvE), just don't ask for free stuff and ISK and every corp would be happy to take you in, even if you are on trial. If you will stay out of corp and not get in to contact with other players you will quit game after 3 days since space is very big and it can get very lonely... And with no friends to protect you pirates will eat you alive. Not like corp will save you from death but at least with corp you can launch crusade on pirates and hunt the scum dogs down and make em pay.

EvE has endless possibilities you only need to find em and exploit em so you can have fun. If you will just do mining for 14 days of trial you might end up killing yourself (even if you are freak for mining). But 14 days of mining with corp in a gang all the time, talking, heaving fun is a different story.

    Good luck & have fun!

Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...

I just recently started playing this game (trial still, but I will be starting my payments in 11 days), and I`m LOVING it.

If you enjoyed the way WoW and many other mmorpgs held your hand all the time this might not be the game for you. If youre a powergamer then this game might not be for you. If dying and really losing stuff bothers you, this game might not be for you. If you take a game to seriously, this game might not be for you.

It is, however, a game for me. The freedom to be a real individual, to have all the choices in the galaxy, to expand your area of expertise as you see fit, to be able to use RL-intellect to get ahead of the game.... Awesome. Even the fact that scamming and griefing is allowed is a boon to me, as this means I have to be cautious ingame as I would be in RL. An offer sounds to good to be true? It probably is :)

In other games you could take stupid chances and go cry to GM when someone ripped you of. Not here.

Cannot say this enough: I REALLY enjoy this game and all the aspects I`ve come across so far! So if the things I mentioned above  doesnt put you off, then you should at the very least give it a shot :)

    -Ph0tec out

PS: Almost forgot, if you DO come ingame, be sure to use rookie help channel for all that its worth (alot) and you will find that you get the basics pretty fast. Hope to see ya!

Thanks everyone for their insight, even the trolls and how it might be exagerated its good to hear both sides of an argument before making a decision. I just have one more question, what is this CCP thing everyone is talking about?

oh but I am very informed. You and the troll that seems to be stalking my post are either clueless or just part of the ccp coverup staff.

Nothing I've said is untrue, just ask CCP.

CCP runs the game, so CCP is responsible for their employees and volunteers staffs misuse of the games controls to benefit themselves and their buddies, all at the expense of the other paying customers.

IF you have no idea what the term "agency" is, look it up in business law 101. It will give you insight  that CCP as an entity gave agency to the employees and volunteers and is negligent in its responsibility to the paying customers by not enforcing rules that give sway to the paying customers having been defrauded of their investment of time and $$$ into the game.

Top this off with the coverup and smokescreen attempt that CCP enacted on its paying customers and you have a real life company that has shown it cannot be trusted.

So I do have a clue, what is it you have?

ccp the "we cheat for our buddies and are proud of it" company...

Though I had a decent enough time playing EvE for two years, the recent controversy is far more entertaining.

And I don't have to pay for it either.

I played the trial, didn't have the patience.  I'm not into the hardcore, learn 50 different things at one time MMO.  To me it takes patience to play.  You start off with a tutroial that goes onnn and on and on and on.  So I uninstalled it. When I play an MMO, I want to get right into the nitty gritty.

    No,

I have attempted to play this game 3 times now... all for about a month each, and every time i have ended up being disgusted with myself for even attempting to play...

In the end, i could see no point to it....

Some may find it fun, but in all honesty, i question their sanity...
