My 2nd friend has roughly the same specs as my own comp but with more ram (1gig) and he gets lag in the city and in areas outside of town.

I also had already tried the slider option and everything else as I mentioned before. Heck i even updated my drivers, well two anyway. So then I tabed out to see how much memory this game sucks back, and omg what a pig! lol

Oh well back to trying the beta again.
512mb of RAM will certainly not cut it, as far as smooth gameplay goes.

2GB seems to be the answer for a starting point.

People with stutter, are you U.S. or E.U. ?

    who me ?

US Here.. and again.. only outskirts of cities and in cities. I remember in Vanguard beta there was a zone seam that I was locked up at literally 15 seconds, then slideshow for about 30 seconds, then somewhat OK... This was just getting in the general area of the first big city(for those who play/played.. it was a big downhill path that I am referring to.. near the bottom was slideshow world).

If I stand still or only move a few feet and wait, and spin around and let everything get caught up, I can get smooth frame rates for about 10 seconds in cities(going back to LOTRO here, if anyone is confused), but then when it has to draw a different region of the city it will start stuttering badly again until I wait it out.

This again points to software issues. I am not totally complaining at Turbine by any means... MMO's have always had issues with this type of stuff. I just don't like the people in the community who assume I am a newb when I encounter these issues. I don't like the people that are getting this problem and pretending they are not. I also don't like that there isn't a whole lot in the KB or on the forums at LOTRO.com that says anything about this.

I am well prepared to grin and bear it until I can get some massive upgrades. But even then there are still going to be weird stuttering issues that developers can't seem to work out yet(not just Turbine, everyone). It is just a little disheartening :/

Well not sure if this post is going to be worth a damn but I got my cousin to pre-order this game like I did and he is really enjoying it. One thing we can't figure out though is we have totally similar systems and he keeps saying "Dude I am getting a lag spike here." and I am like "WTF are you talking about I am cruising around like nothing." The only difference between us is our world locations and our cable operators. I am in Seattle and he is in Massillon but we both are on cable.

So I can see some people having problems and others having none at all. Just my input.

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

Set the crowd detail slider way down.  2G helps quite a bit, compared to 1G of RAM.  Defrag thy disk!  Some of that hitching in town is new textures and models being pulled off of the hard disk, and if it is disorganized, that takes longer.

On my machine, XP, 2.6GHz P4, 2G RAM, 7800GS AGP card (~= 7600GT) I run with settings next to max and very little hitching at any time at 1280 X 960. Cable. Mobo and CPU are 3 1/2 years old.

Well I give up. lol  I can play Guildwars, Eq2, WoW, AnarchyOnline, Oblivion and many other games without any issues, I just can't play this one.

The town of Combe pfft forget it. Trying to move is like watching a slide show in slow motion. So I tried the other races and different locations.... pfft forget it. lol  I took a look at the resources this game uses and its crazy!  I tried playing with the settings and nothing seemed to help.  My comp build is only a few years old and once apon atime 512 ram used to be enough. Guess it's time to upgrade to the top of the line system.

If you read the official forums, you would know about the troubleshooting  section in the options panel. Slide the "Max Frame Rate" to around "15-20" My also help to set the game engine on medium.

I run on a medium grade machine with a 7300LE and once I getting going all the open areas are lag free and I have 0 hiccups

Also , you have to know in most towns with this many people running around it will lag
I found that putting the game engine on "high" works well enough. Medium I felt a slow down. I set my fps to 50. Might experiment with getting it a little lower.

Also, for people who are having issues. just use the option to detect settings. i found that it's not bad at all.

Do you have a friend that can borrow you 2 Gb ram.

Then you will see what a difference more Ram means.

Their minimum req says 512Mb ram and a 64Mb graphiccard.

That's not enough and it's not enough in most games nowadays anyway.

And i scratch my head a bit when you say you can play Oblivion and EQ II with just 512 Mb ram and a several year old PC.

    But in Short.

512 Mb ram is not enough.

Get atleast 1 Gb and 2 Gb is better.

You should be able to run the game on your PC if you get more Ram..

I'm running it on a 1Ghz PC,ati 9800 Pro,1Gb ram and my internal cache is fried which is why i have clocked it down to 1 Ghz.

I think today, while helping my wife's alt in Combe with 200 people running around us, I did stutter for one out of ever 15-20 steps. Just looked like a double step. That's been it for performance issues on my end.

AMD box, 2GB RAM, 2x256MB Nvidia Cards, decent hard drive, about 2 years old.

I have not tried the High res client yet so not sure how it would run with it .. but even with the normal client it looks amazing ...
My gaming machine is about the same and I don't have the reported problems.  Running Windows 2000.  Seems like a lot of people with 8800 are having problems in other games too... Is the 8800 a problem or is there a combination of equipment, drivers and OS that is making a difference?  Vista is a memory hog...
