Why don't you like PvP?

I'm having probelems understanding why some people don't like pvp? I mean why bother grinding out better gear? To kill monsters faster or to get even better gear? What do you do when you have the best gear stand in town and watch your epeen go up? Whats the point of playing a game with other people if you cant compete with them? Do you compete by seeing who gets gear the fastest?

I like instanced PvP like WoW battlegrounds.  I don't like world PvP because I am sick of getting ganked by groups of high lvl players and having no chance to defend myself.  In every PvP game I have EVER played I have NEVER been attacked be a player + or - 3 lvls of me.  It has ALWAYS been players 10,15,etc lvls higher then me.  To me, thats not fun.

    -Currently looking forward to FFXIV

-Currently playing EvE and Global Agenda

Actually i considered lvling up the funnest part of WoW. It was the only part of the game that I considered to have any real pvp. Yes, i got ganked a bit by ?? players but for the most part i was fighting Allliance who were doing same quests or areas as me. Which means close in lvl. Its the end game i find to be lacking, pretty much no world pvp, you cant advance your character alone at all you always have to be in a grp of 10 or more players, I like my play time to be when i decide to play not set raid times, and it seems im getting better gear just to be able to get even better gear over and over and over........

Firstly, let me say that I don't dislike all PvP. I loved DAoC, WoW BGs and I play RTS games online. I'll definately be giving WAR and AOC a try.

However, I absolutely despise FFA PvP. Its not fun. The only goal is slaughter. I find that in a lot of FFA games there is zero community. Zero cooperation.

Anytime I've tried to get into a FFA game, there are far too many max level people seeking out low levels. That's retarded. That would be like a full grown man going to a playground, and punching the kids. I know the entire community isn't that way, but there is far too many.

Is the game so boring that people have to go seek lower level people to kill?

Why do I like games like EQ? Cooperation.

I really don't care for PvP or getting the best gear. None of that is important to me.  I like exsisting in virtual world and enjoying PvE combat and experiencing content. I like exploring the game world and socializing and RPing. That is just the way I choose to use my game time. I don't play MMOs to compete.

Alright thats one point of you and i wont insult it. If thats what you enjoy but i personally thrive off competition. What happens when you have experienced most of the content? A chat room with a game a attached?

After playing daoc for years before ra's was intruduced it was fun your weapon and armor vs mine no ubah drop stuff no extr pvp rank rewards......

Was fair and clean PVP then when rewards came in it put the casual player that played 10-20 hours out of competition..

I have purge and IP you dont thxs for the realm points sucka....

The Thidranki and Molvik battle grounds are fun on the classic server no one has any ubah gear or big ra's to Garentee wins.....

pvp with no rewards would be what i would like in any game after all why should i be penelized because i have a fammily and a job and some dont so they get rewarded by playing 16 hours a day?

PVP is for those girls who can't hack it in the auto attack world where it really takes skill!

    /end sarcasm

Everyone enjoys fair pvp. It is ganking that people hate.

Which is why I think that world PvP has no business being implemented in a level and/or class based MMO. They are like oil and water - they just don't mix well.

i agree level based mmo shouldnt have ffa pvp cuz its just stupid

What if the MMO was level and class based, BUT the damage you deal would be relative to the level.

lv80 Champion vs lv30 Mage, at lv30 the Champion would hit for say 25 damage a punch, but at lv80 vs a lv80 he deals 450 a punch. Not very clear so here is how it works, in more detail if you don't under stand.

You will damage your enemy as if you were HIS level. This may seem unfair but it is a good way to level the battlefield in World PvP. So just because you are a lv80 badass with the best gear in the game, you can still get a beat down by a mid-level scrub.

I'm going to use WoW as an example because I know it the best. If you have lv70 Epic T46786 armor and you fight a poor ol lv40 what ever, you will be "wearing" lv40 Epic armor, so you would still deal more damage then the average lv40 but not 800 times as much damage because the massive gap in level and quaility of gear.

This might take a headache to program and might piss off gankers and h4rdc0r3 PvPers but hey, don't play it then! This also works vise versa, the lv30 Mage will do lv80 damage to the Champion, more then likely he wont be all pimped out in the best lv30 gear so he will have a slight disadvantage but he can still win.

But in specific areas levels matter, a lv70 vs lv80, they both will do the same damage they normally would in PvE so becareful! Note: These "Levels count" areas would be zones you have WILLINGLY entered at your own risk.

The pumped up feeling you getting playing your little pvp video game doesn't match real life and the intensity of real situations.

Alot of it depends on the game, because some games have really good PvP, and others do not.

So far the game with the best PvP is lineage 2; It is FFA style, but the players themselves make up their own "factions" (aka clans and alliances), their own enemies, friends, etc, and there is cause and effect to the PvP. If you PK a member of another clan without reason, you very well might start a war; If you see him out numbered and getting attacked by another clan and you help him, you might make a new ally. For people who complain about getting "ganked" by higher level players in Lineage 2, stop playing the damn private servers and actually try retail. A player 15 levels higher than you will never risk pking a lowbie for no reason, because he risks to lose alot more EXP by going red, and he will risk dropping his items aswell. If you do actually get PK'd by a much higher level in lineage 2, its because you did something to piss him off. Maybe he was on another character that was at your level and you decided to be a smart ass, your you stole his kill, etc, theres tons of reason someone will PK, but it is very rare for someone to PK just for the sake of doing it in L2, you stand to lose too much, and while you do get 5 free pk's before you can drop your items, no one is going to waste them on a random person for no reason. It's not WoW, you can't run around talking trash like a 10 year without ever having consequence; You piss someone off, they will kill you, you piss enough people off, they will kill you so much you can't even level anymore. Theres no snuggly faction system where you always have allies in people that can't attack you, you make your friends, you make your enemies.

I swear im really getting tired of these people that log into an extremely high exp rate private server, get pked right off the bat and go complaining that lineage 2's PvP sucks, or even as far as saying FFA pvp sucks. Really, unless you played retail till atleast level 50, you have no real say at all in lineage 2's pvp. I'd bet money that people posting on these boards complaining about l2's PvP and getting ganked never actually played retail at all, because aslong as i had played retail, random ganking was never a problem, no one ever kills you for no reason, the penalties are too high. Yea, i did make the mistake of trying one of those private servers before, and it is a total gank fest because the rates are so high no one cares, but an l2 private server is about as far from playing like retail l2 as retail l2 is from WoW.

If you can't hack the grind in retail, well thats your problem; Your missing out on the best PvP any MMO has ever offered, and really thats your choice, but it irks me that people complain about something they have never seen themselves, and i know they havn't because theres never random ganking in retail L2, yet thats always their main arguement. Log out the damn private server. You wanna see what real l2 players think, read the official boards, you have to have an active sub to post there, no private server noobs allowed.

Its never a fair fight , you either get ganked by someone 10 levels higher than you  or someone that sees you fighting some mobs & charges in from behind  or someone that has all Epic gear he purchased with the gold he got online , Unbalanced classes as well , PVP should be everyone has the same gear & weapons & you can't fight anyone more than 1-2 levels either way ...

Because most games don't do a very good job of it. Daoc with RvR comes to mind as being the best so far.

Sure, there are a multitude of ways that world PvP could be propped up in a level/class MMO to be more fair but it would always be out of whack some how.

Take your example with the lvl 30 vs the lvl 80. Lets say they end up fighting in a lvl 30 zone and they get mob adds during the fight. Now the lvl 30 mage has to fight a lvl 30 mob and the equalized lvl champion; the lvl 80 champion also has an equalized opponent (the lvl 30 mage) but the add is 50 lvls below him. In this case the lvl 80 champion would still have an advantage.

You would have to do something like 'instance'  the PvP encounter to remove mob interference but then it's not really FFA PvP.

Everyone who doesn't like PvP has had bad experiences with MMORPGs that don't know how to implement a proper PvP system.

Because pvp isnt everything, I only do pvp for the challenge not to make myself feel better, I play mmorpgs to play pve in groups. And some games have decent pve it all depends on the person. Besides you have to remember many people grew up on consoles there also pve based in its on way.

I love to pvp.  It's the grinding to get to the point to be competitive I hate.  Hopefully AoC will be my savior.

I hate grinding and I hate loot dominant games.  Crafting>loot

Hmmm good point Ohaan, it would have to be worked out a little more fairly in some matter, possible have no death penalties when engauged in PvP combat but then agian it's not really World / FFA PvP anymore. It's complicated really.

Best soultion is, if the game has PvP (FFA) then don't play it or try to get friends to play with you so you have a team. A group of lowbies can kill a higher level player (depending on class of course). I like PvP World/FFA, instanced, RvR, what ever I like it! If I get ganked so what, more then likely I would have a high level charater if not, log for a few minutes or go to another zone.

Nothing, he is just trying to get his post count up.

I think that pve without pvp is pointless.  yeah bragging rights are great and everything, but it's always nice knowing that you have decent gear but you can beat a person with the best gear on the server.

There are so many pvpcentric games coming out it is wonderful.  Can't wait for AoC an War
