Like others. I like instanced PvP such as battlegrounds from WoW. But all out slaughter PvP in an open world like Face of mankind for instance? Horrible. You can't take a step sometimes in your home areas without getting mauled to death. Costing you cash and your valuable time. Then you have people telling you "Well go somewhere else.. and quest.." Well if i could escape... I WOULD.
I'm not the best PvPer out there, i won't lie to you. Sometimes i suck... sometimes i'm alright. But i'd prefer PvP to have its own place in a game world. A place where players can GO to PvP and not a place to grind but end up getting Ganked anyways. Just because you're in the mood for PvP doesn't mean I am.
Some players take PvP too far as well, and this.. ruins it for me. You get ganked and you find them taunting you, following you, harassing you, and badgering you over and over... and then you're told "file a ticket". Well by the time i've filed the ticket and a GM responds... its either cost me half my bank in repairs or all the GMs do is slap them on the wrist and tell them to run along, and they end up coming back to do it again once the GM is gone... or to someone else. Its just not fair, nor is it polite.
As someone mentioned on the first page..
RL > PvP in games.
This is true to an extent, but only to the people who play like i just described. Get a life. Get a girlfriend. and stop trying to prove your worth to the online world. Just because you sat behind a computer desk with a mouse and keyboard for 100 hours straight to get that nice dagger... doesn't make you cool. Nor does it give you the honorability to go around lowbie ganking or player harassing. If anything it shows that you lack anything of a life.
I know thats kinda harsh, but in alot of cases its true. Just stop. Go out and sit on the beach. Get rid of that "monitor bleach" you've got going.. darken up that skin some and go gank someone's sand castle. At least there, they can teach you to behave properly.
But thats just the way i look at PvP. Its good if its done correctly and not unleashed over the entire game.

I love to pvp. It's the grinding to get to the point to be competitive I hate. Hopefully AoC will be my savior. I hate grinding and I hate loot dominant games. Crafting>loot
What grinding ? you are competitive from level 1 if your just about pvp , now if you more about ganking lower level players then yes you need to grind to a high level , otherwise pvp can be competitive at any level
I don't like PvP because you're likely to get fragged by some jerk of a player who kills for the sake of killing. When I graduated high school, I decided I was done with bullies and that includes the bullies on PvP. I've also found a bit of snobbery in PvPers, more than a few act like you're some kind of loser because you don't farm and PL your way to max level just to fight other people. I play games to relax and have fun. How is it fun when you're basically a target for everyone else? What's the fun in sneaking up on a target and bashing them from behind? If I wanted that feeling of helplessness, I'd rent a slasher movie.
I do RL RPG games where the players work as a team. I like that. I don't go for FFA games because there's always someone who takes them too seriously and puts all their time and effort into honing their character as if it were a weapon. That's just way to hardcore for me.

You may have a problem understandiung why people dont like to PvP, I have the same problem understanding why you care? Or, why should I care what you think?
So, from your post I should gleam the fact that if I dont like to PvP then my input in a game is worthless? Or by my being in your PvP world as a PvE or a crafter or some support class that allows others to play the game AS THEY SEE FIT, isnt as good as you because your little world is PvP? Is your life that open that you have the time to care? Not all players are you, (thankfully); theres your answer.
I'm having probelems understanding why some people don't like pvp? I mean why bother grinding out better gear? To kill monsters faster or to get even better gear? What do you do when you have the best gear stand in town and watch your epeen go up? Whats the point of playing a game with other people if you cant compete with them? Do you compete by seeing who gets gear the fastest?
RL> playing pvp in a game. What the hell does that have to do with my post?
Nothing, he is just trying to get his post count up.
I think that pve without pvp is pointless. yeah bragging rights are great and everything, but it's always nice knowing that you have decent gear but you can beat a person with the best gear on the server.

I never said your opinion didn't matter or that you are worthless. I personally love crafters(in games where crafting is actually useful). Yes, I love PvP and i wouldn't play a game without it but that doesn't mean i wouldnt want you in the game. Having someone who put in the time to be able to craft that sword you love is great and needed.

I understand that you like working as a team. I personnaly love to be able to group up with freinds but I dont like it when that si the only way to advance your character. I like smaller more personal groups and I like having the choice of wether or not i want to group.
I like story lines and a cool environment in my games. Not playing to see if you can beat another player. I would rather cooperate, meet a goal, and progress through the environment and story. It's just a matter of preference in the end though. That's why there are different kinds of games. But PvP'ers are going to have to accept that most people just get sick of their ganking and acting like kids all the time. I haven't been on a playground in over 20 years and don't want to play a game that mimmicks one.

Isn't joining up with your group and going and beating the group of gankers cooperation? Wouldn't beating a group of players that actually think give you more satisfaction than beating a boss who does the same thing everytime? This isn't meant as an insult. Just an honest question.
i agree level based mmo shouldnt have ffa pvp cuz its just stupid
seeing that level based mmos are stupid, i'd have to agree that ffa pvp in a level based mmo is stupid.
"zomgwtfomegarice are you talking about, d?"
look at old school ultima online / swg. sure they could have some sort of balance issues when it comes to pvp; but then you do the COx thing and say "our pvp is balanced for group warfare, not one v one". although, probably the only way to really "balance" pvp between different factions is to cop out like the lame-os at blizzard and give the same exact classes to both sides, not just 90% the same, but all 100% alike. but, you can't be too hard on blizzard, all they have left are noobs that only know raiding, like kaplan/pardo.
as far as balance goes, there's a number of games where it's not so much "balance between classes" that is the issue, as it is the noobs that play 70+ hours a week (noob meaning that even though they play a lot, they SUCK) complaining that "casual players" (folks who play say 25 hours and less a week) are beating the tar out of the hardcore noobs. player suckiness/ownererness needs to be taken into account when balancing classes. plus, classes SHOULDN'T be on equal terms. a "mage" should be a glass tank - lots of damage, but you hit him with a rock and he dies, as a random example.
how about for the level having mmos (since people love being lemmings and following the paths dictated to them by the timesink lords), do something SORTA like COx does - restrict the zones to certain levels. except, in cox, it's a minimum level to enter the zone; but you could have the zones ONLY allow say lvl 15-25 into that area (or even like 15-21 or whatever).
the problem is that the only GOOD pvp that's out right now, seems to be in FPS games. if MMOs would learn from FPS', then we could have some pvp fun in mmos. until that day, we have to make do with what we have, or take up jogging?
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
I love PVP. Its a break from grinding and leveling. Some people like RP, but i'm not the type of guy who puts elf ears on and a bannana thong and run around my house with a paper towel roll pretending it's a sword. I never got into it. PVP should be in all mmo's. All they have to do is implement a seperate server for PVPers, RPers, Carebears...hehe.
But PvP'ers are going to have to accept that most people just get sick of their ganking and acting like kids all the time. I haven't been on a playground in over 20 years and don't want to play a game that mimmicks one.
Once again we have someone making generalizations and stereotyping the immature PvP MMO player. I have seen many a PvE'er throw tantrums because they got out-rolled on an item does that mean that all PvE MMO players are childish grab-asses? No. So get your head out of the place where the sun don't shine and try to be objective.
Actually, I love PvP. I started from a wargaming and flight sim background. Then, when those markets dried up and no more of those games were being made, I moved on to FPS and RTS games. I also enjoy fighting, racing, sports games on consoles. I'd still be playing Counter-Strike if it wasn't for all the aimbotters cheaters running around.
Having said that, I've never really been a big fan of PvP in RPG games. Diablo was fun, but it still boiled down to whoever had the highest level and best loot. Once people figured out how to edit their characters and items, you just couldn't compete without doing some editing yourself. Neverwinter Nights had some cool PvP servers, but they usually made sure that everyone was within plus or minus five levels of one another. UO had a skill based system that boiled down to whoever brought the biggest group with them. Between vast differences in levels and a complete lack of anti-zerg game mechanics, competition in RPGs is a joke!
If someone would do PvP in an MMORPG correctly, I'd be all for it. As it stands, PvP in MMORPGs is a haven for unskilled, number crunching, social retards with massive inferiority complexes. FFA PVP MMORPGs give these sad excuses for humanity a place to compensate for their failings without consequence while at the same time allowing them to avoid any chance of being defeated and having to face up to their own overwhelming inadequacy.

1. PVP in an MMO is near skilless. I love PVP. But I prefer to do it in a game where you have to actually aim and sneak and even camp for long periods to get that one perfect kill. MMO PVP is just "Mash the TAB key to target en enemy then mash your powerful buttons til they fall down" Not much skill in that sadly. the only real skill is tactical and trying to get a bunch of random guys to work together just for a bit of MMO PVP is like mentally playing with yourself.
2. You are still competing with other players if all you do is PVE. Trying to get that rare loot before anyone else is competition. Crafting that one item no one else can seem to get is competition. Getting more faction then others is competition. Selling something higher then anyone else competition. Trying to take over an economy is competition. Trying to get the best guild on a server is competition. There is more to competition then PVP.
3. I love to do PVP sometimes in an MMO. But only if its with a team that works well. Just like I love to group to group also but if its with a team that works well together. Sadly both are hard to come by in some MMOs.
I have no problem with pvp. I have a problem with the people who like to gank and those with bad attitudes about wining/ losing. A bad winner is just as bad as a bad loser.
So I am opposed to ffa pvp. However I like rvr type pvp, it gives more of a purpose and structure to it.
i like the instanced pvp alot use to do battle grounds all the time on my druid.WoW started getting boring so figured i'd give a pvp server a try. finally figured out what 90% of the disses on WoW was about. everyone must have played a pvp server.i remember when i first hit ashenvale getting that worried feeling you was about to be attacked at any second. then i relaxed even saw some alli sorta close to my lvl (little lower) left them alone (more worried if i attacked thyey'd get on a main and make my life hell till i logged) . ashenvale i had no trouble, left there had a quest to go to tauren mill and THATS when it started to suck. get there got a quest to go kill in the farms there was a bunch of us horde there (lowbie around lvl 22) here comes a 60 rogue in full tier 2 just running through 1 hitting everyone followed by what looked like his entire loser raid guild killing horde close to 40 lvls lower than them. they then proceeded to corpse camp us, as i tried to blood gate to TM so i could fly away.
in the pvp servers defence, i too started thinking like those losers "screw this i'm going to ash and gank everyone i see!" i'm sure not everyone that started on a pvp server did so just to gank lowbies but eventually they get ganked enough will do it back to other lowbies. in that week i must have been ganked like that 6x a day till i eventually got to thousand needles where i then went in one of those centuar caves and just grinded them in hiding (no real alli quests to go in there)then having no fun doing such things as hide and grind the same mobs over and over. i eventually paid to transfer my lvl 32 shaman to a pve server
pvp servers seem to be the places all the asses in WoW flock to seriously.even to members of their own faction, ask a question and your lucky if the only reply is "your mom" or "deez nuts". i've only tried a horde pvp server so far, i've noticed even on the pve servers horde attracted alot of the "i'm better than you all" mentality. started on STormrage and that so far is the best server(alli and horde both, tho horde is a bit thin atm), people are laid back will help if you ask a question (unless its for money) and the server as a whole takes care of the gold farmers, bots and asses.you start swearing and yelling at some one in general chat or yelling profanities over and over like a 13 year old you will get atleast a warning. i've seen people get small vacations for repeat offences. use to be a guild of gold farmers (drunken monkey) they're all gone now
I personally would REALLY like a new pvp server that you was auto flagged to anyone within around 10 lvls and if you are say lvl 39 a lvl 50 couldn't attack you unless you attacked first in wich you'd flag to that guy.kind of like a combo of pvp and pve servers
I like story lines and a cool environment in my games. Not playing to see if you can beat another player. I would rather cooperate, meet a goal, and progress through the environment and story. Wouldn't beating a group of players that actually think give you more satisfaction than beating a boss who does the same thing everytime? This isn't meant as an insult. Just an honest question. It doesn't ever work out that way. If I log on 30 times and get ganked 29 of the times but get to experience what you described MAYBE once, is that game worth it to me? No way.
And like I said, there's not story behind it. Sure you drop avatars into an environment that the developers put together for us. But the typical player who PvP's could care less about the game environment rather than just fighting. Like in DAoC, people who like to PvP complain about actually having to develop their character. They instead want to get right to the battlegrounds.
I just get tired of the PvP mentality. And I might be wrong (though I seriously doubt it) but it seems that the only people who do get into the PvP are kids who want to prove their something to themselves. Most tired old people like me would rather admire a great story coupled with the socialization and teamwork of a PvE environment. It's just more fun for us. We got over that bullying and other non-sense years ago.
But PvP'ers are going to have to accept that most people just get sick of their ganking and acting like kids all the time. I haven't been on a playground in over 20 years and don't want to play a game that mimmicks one.

I have seen many a PvE'er throw tantrums because they got out-rolled on an item does that mean that all PvE MMO players are childish grab-asses? People get a bad impression of PvP because in so many games its shoddily done, leaving gaping holes for rabid ganking & exploiting. And FFA PvP doesn't work well with level-based games, which most games on the market are. It makes no sense to have these massively multiplayer games with no competition between people. If you take a long hard look at a lot of these popular MMOs, with their autotarget, autoshoot, hotkey-mashing combat, they would be incredibly boring standalone games. The interaction is the only thing that makes them stand apart, and its so very stagnent in some games--like a chatroom with 3d avatars. No world PvP struggles for land, city building, rich economy, etc. Its just gone so, so wrong in so many games.
Ideally, I want a game with FFA PvP thats skillbased (i.e. first-person-sworder), no "flagging", that has REAL consequences to keep people in line, and no levels, and where players have a real impact on the world.
There are people, most of them are lacking one of the degenerated type gonosomes, the Y-chromosome, that like to "chat with 3d avatars", that like "to have fun, dance and healp each other", those hard boiled humans even buy games like Sims or Tamagotchi, the experience...
... and rumor has it there are also males that don't want to ongo bongo their penis on the table while "online murdering" other players time and again...
...funny sidenote (second time this week) -> "Ongo Bongo" is precicely the reason that will bring our race to an end eventually.

Girls don't hate PvP, they hate the stereotypical PvP'er.
By the way, if you want to read about the only game that might get FFA PvP right: DarkfallOnline.com
PvP means that every activity has a 50% players failing at the very least.
It is usually the same few players. Even if I can handle myself well, I feel miserable for the player I slaughter.
Challenges, adversity and all, this is good. But failing 50%+ in average for the players, that is just not for me. Especially that it means that some players will fail at 90%+, they will leave...which will put another group into the new 90% failure zone, this new group will leave...and so on...eventually the attrition even get to the elite who is usually unable to accept a 50% failure.
I play a MMORPG to progress, to advance...not to endure a walk of pain and suffering. I can take it quite hard, but there are limits for my enjoyment...I can tell you that in average, if I fail once in a while, this is already heavy. I rather focus on improving success then on trying stuff I keep failing. Succeeding with C instead of D, then with C+, then with B-...and so on until A+++!
The PvP isn't something I care for, I really don't care...however I like to compete with each and every player, in a nice way. Like in a friendly race, I will lend my arm to help an opponent to race better, but I will still try to beat him/her, in a sportmanship way. Other players must have no impact or positive impact on me only, never a negative impact. I will group my main competitor without a second though unless there are reasons to dislike him that have nothing to do with the competition...even if it mean that by grouping him, I can't distance/bypass him, this is okay. I am a COOPERATIVE-competitor...totally and completely an achiever. PvP is going against this cooperation-thingy, as you don't cooperate with the other side, which is unacceptable, I must cooperate with each and every player, allies/enemies alike...

i like the instanced pvp alot use to do battle grounds all the time on my druid.WoW started getting boring so figured i'd give a pvp server a try. finally figured out what 90% of the disses on WoW was about. everyone must have played a pvp server.i remember when i first hit ashenvale getting that worried feeling you was about to be attacked at any second. then i relaxed even saw some alli sorta close to my lvl (little lower) left them alone (more worried if i attacked thyey'd get on a main and make my life hell till i logged) . ashenvale i had no trouble, left there had a quest to go to tauren mill and THATS when it started to suck. get there got a quest to go kill in the farms there was a bunch of us horde there (lowbie around lvl 22) here comes a 60 rogue in full tier 2 just running through 1 hitting everyone followed by what looked like his entire loser raid guild killing horde close to 40 lvls lower than them. they then proceeded to corpse camp us, as i tried to blood gate to TM so i could fly away.
in the pvp servers defence, i too started thinking like those losers "screw this i'm going to ash and gank everyone i see!" i'm sure not everyone that started on a pvp server did so just to gank lowbies but eventually they get ganked enough will do it back to other lowbies. in that week i must have been ganked like that 6x a day till i eventually got to thousand needles where i then went in one of those centuar caves and just grinded them in hiding (no real alli quests to go in there)then having no fun doing such things as hide and grind the same mobs over and over. i eventually paid to transfer my lvl 32 shaman to a pve server
pvp servers seem to be the places all the asses in WoW flock to seriously.even to members of their own faction, ask a question and your lucky if the only reply is "your mom" or "deez nuts". i've only tried a horde pvp server so far, i've noticed even on the pve servers horde attracted alot of the "i'm better than you all" mentality. started on STormrage and that so far is the best server(alli and horde both, tho horde is a bit thin atm), people are laid back will help if you ask a question (unless its for money) and the server as a whole takes care of the gold farmers, bots and asses.you start swearing and yelling at some one in general chat or yelling profanities over and over like a 13 year old you will get atleast a warning. i've seen people get small vacations for repeat offences. use to be a guild of gold farmers (drunken monkey) they're all gone now
I personally would REALLY like a new pvp server that you was auto flagged to anyone within around 10 lvls and if you are say lvl 39 a lvl 50 couldn't attack you unless you attacked first in wich you'd flag to that guy.kind of like a combo of pvp and pve servers

Ideally, I want a game with FFA PvP thats skillbased (i.e. first-person-sworder), no "flagging", that has REAL consequences to keep people in line, and no levels, and where players have a real impact on the world.
... and rumor has it there are also males that don't want to ongo bongo their penis on the table while "online murdering" other players time and again...
...funny sidenote (second time this week) -> "Ongo Bongo" is precicely the reason that will bring our race to an end eventually.
Gnomexxx i understand what your saying but I would rather get ganked than kill the same boss over and over and over and over....
Why did you start insulting the PvP players? I haven't insulted the PvE mentality and didnt create this topic for that.
