What is better, PC gaming or Xbox 360 gaming?

Remember that the 360 is a gaming console so the only basis on which to compare the two is on gaming.  Please keep your discussion relative to gaming!

This is the way I see the whole PC/Console thing ...    THE PC VS THE XBOX 360

Remember that the following is just an opinion and it's given to stir up some debate on your favorite benefits of PC's and 360's.  Remember that the person who picks the criteria by which you judge something, is controlling what is debated, but my desire is that you would respond with your own criteria, as well as, responding to mine.  I'm only looking at this in regards to gaming.

Let's start with PRICE & POWER

PRICE - everyone knows that companies like microsoft and sony will sell their consoles at an incredible loss, because they make all their money on the games, downloads, and accessaries.  For this reason the XBOX 360 is the clear winner in the price department.  Also, you have to consider how much it costs just to equip your PC with the newest graphics chip ... it's expensive.  But, one exception to this price category is the games department.  Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like PC games are cheaper, sometimes by $20.  WINNER: XBOX 360

POWER - well, this is a tricky one.  If you were to take the specs of all computers that people are currently using, I would bet the 360 is more powerful than 90% of those easily.  For example I bought a laptop in 2003 for $1500, and that laptop is not quite up to par when it comes to playing new games.  Those same games for Xbox 360 ($400) are seemless.  If I play Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth 2 on my PC, I get Lag City, and sometimes my laptop just freezes up.  My 360 plays it perfectly!  Now there are 3 types of PC users I want to identify.  HARD CORE, CASUAL, and NOOB.  The noobs upgrade their PC's once every 6-10 years, the Casual upgrade every 3-6 years, and the Hard Core upgrade constantly, at least every 0-2 years.  I am more of a casual PC owner currently, but I want to talk about the HARD CORE.  My buddy is getting ready to buy a Geforce 8800 gtx, for $550, and whenever a new component comes out he has the option to get it.  For that reason I have no choice, but to give this category to PC, easily.          WINNER:PC

Well, that's the beginning of a long discussion that will, for many people, boil down to two things.  Price and Power.  Most people looking for power will go for PC and most looking for affordablility will go for price.

I would say pc is imo the best way to game as you can upgrade yer pc with new better ram, no mo or new vidcards and stuff as the games become better.

The 360 is a glorified pc with less potential. You can only upgrade a console so much, while every couple of months the PC can be upgraded.

The deal with consoles IMO is how much they limit you to much as far as game choices. The PC on the other hand has a total rain of games to choose from including console games due to emulators, granted maybe not the most recent game but the majority.  Plus the abililty to be different, the customization of your PC is pretty cool like gaming on one monitor and browsing on another. Just my 2 cents

I'm a hardcore gamer I like to think, (still too broke for a PS3 and Wii) and I have a Aurora mALX laptop, (5 Grand with SLI 7900 Go GTX 512 Grfx cards for those that arnt familer) For the most part I prefer consoles, the two exceptions to this are MMOs and RTSs, if you can afford the PC its that way to go for either of those imho.

The real question here is probably if you use your hardware for gaming only. Personally, I couldn't live with a console, since I do so many other things on my PC than just game. It would simply be too restrictive and expensive to get a console, since I'd have to have a PC on the side anyway. Also, I'd have to go out and get a TV (yes, that's right, I don't own a TV), which would make the investment rather large. Top that off with the price of games for the Xbox360 and it's simply not econimically viable.

I do my PC upgrades every 2-3 years and try to time them with game titles I'm interested in. That way I get to see the full potential of a given game but even if the game falls through, I'm still sitting with a nice powerhouse PC on which to play other games.

    Winner: PC

Any true gamer would go with PCs to game. Every game that is out there is always better on the PC as long as you have a PC with better resouces than your console. I stopped playing consoles a few years back and probably won't ever go back.

I run the Nvidia SLIi mobo have 4 gigs of ram P4 duo 3.2 processor with GeForce 7600GS vid card. I will be getting the new 8800GTX before AoC comes out and hoping to upgrade to 8 gigs of ram and yes I am running Vista x64 Ultimate. How else are you going to get the benifits of AoC is you are not running Vista in Areo mood? The game is suppose take advantage of this feature.

i like the console in this one xbox360 in general i do wish tho that the pc and 360 users could be on the same playing field because there would be alot wider player base and my computer is not up to par to play this game at full potential but could still play it but i know my 360 could play it on highest settings. Not gonna spend 4-6 grand to get a awesome computer but 400 dollars hey 360 has got it and also its more like 95% of computer the 360 is better than according my local virtual pc

My computer sucks and I don't really want to upgrade it because I have to upgrade it every year or two. X360 is better imo cos there isn't that retarded upgrading of hardware all the time.

PC more fun and better graphics
  • JarloJarlo Member Posts: 221

I much prefer PC but I also have a good job so have a pretty high end machine.

I will throw out a bone for my Wii though.  I really enjoy playing that thing because it is just so different from everything else.  Call of Duty 3 with the Wii controller is a trip!

lol dude the 360 is WAY more powerful...yes pc can be stronger but only if you buy the BEST Of everything and only like less than %5 of computers have the best stuff even u said urself so you cant say the pc wins just by those 5% you have to go by average not the best pc against it because most pc will suck and get lag while the 360 NEVER Lags unless your playing multiplayer on dial up lol so you cant say the pc is more powerful.

Im a bigger pc fan but im also a HUGE xbox 360 fan im just going by whats right.

An Xbox 360 is powerful, but not superior to a  "good" pc whatsoever.
  • shepx22shepx22 Member Posts: 133
For MMOs and FPS games I have to say PC hands down. Console are more apporiate for Racing, Zelda and other action/adventure type games of that sort. Thats just my 2 sense and what I use each for.

I'll take my PC over any console, any day.

I'd have to go with PC.  I just seem out of touch when playing on a console.

For some reason PC games tend to grab my attention much more, and the fun factor / addiction seems to be much more intense.

i'd read the whole post, but in the end im sure i will still have the same answer.... console is cheaper, only good thing in my opinion, but its far too limmited compared to PC games, even now a days when you can download into your xbox.... maybe in a couple of years, but microsoft doesnt want xbox to turn into a pc, because in the end console gaming is cheaper, they would lose money.

360 cause of the better graphics
  • Rayx0rRayx0r Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 2,902

anyone who owns a 360 knows a 360 game system is superior

especially multiplayer. nothing is more streamlined and efficient.  anyone who says otherwise is lying or briefly played an Xbox at best buy or watched some dork play guitar hero.

Also, as much as youd like to convince yourselves.. the Xbox does have better graphics, and smoother animations.  I dont care what video board you want to compare it to.  The console is capable of a LOT, including physics that most (if not all without an Aegia) PC video boards do not support

can you build a superior PC?  maybe for a couple grand,  but it stops at single player.  Once you start logging in and playing across a network, you might as well throw out all your hard work building that PC out the window.  Theres thousands of variables on a PC across a network that make it inferior to an Xbox 360.  Nothing.. and I mean NOTHING beats an Xbox Mulitplayer

and before you begin on the controls of an xbox. just dont.  it supports usb and can support mouse and keyboard.. and if you actually PLAY an xbox then you would have adjusted to its controls and would realize this is a non-issue.  Xbox controls are as good as it gets unless comparing it to say.. a razer diamondback or higher.    but that doesnt apply to xbox nubs.  Another reason why "twitch" games and twitch FPS are so damn popular on the x-box and are slowly leaving the PC game platforms is because its controls are so intuitive

I pick console, simply because if the game is made for that hardware with no need for me to upgrade or worry about not having enugh memory to run it smoothly. Consoles are just easier.
  • ianmccianmcc Member Posts: 38
now i wasnt a big fan of console's but i am very impressed with xbox live on the 360 and the fact that i didnt have to worry about the newest games not working well on it like i do with my pc, but it is a very close decision but i prefer the 360 over the PC, it is good old reliable and costs a tenth of what a high end PC is. To truley experience computer gaming you need to be willing to pay a lot on components and will have to replace them every few years.

I enjoy 360 more because I play with real life friends on and offline. PC is one player per comp, and there are so many random games that it's hard to find friends that play the same ones. 360 is cheaper, and the games have resale value, plus, it doesn't need to be upgraded.

I guess alot of people would think that a pc has better graphics then the xbox one main contributing factor is the resolution difference you can get with a pc maybe if you plug an xbox 360 upto some flash 22" PC monitor (dont know any specs im speaking through my arse here) and then see how it looks. NOt saying it is better but cant hardly compare due to major res differences from Pc monitor to Tv (crt,plasma,E.T.C)
