right now RIGHT NOW. EQ2 how the hell is EQ2 up there? The game was based off WoW after it was released, when it was releaseld it was a crappy version of EQ 1 sony patched up EQ2 to become a WOW like game. And dont say it didnt because it did. WoW gets no respect it deserves its a very fun game and though end game tends to lack WoW is still a blast. EQ2 armor all looks the same, clay models its horrible.
How dare you if i wernt a gentlemen id slap you all in the face but this is not a threat cause iam a gentlemen and wont slap you all in the face.

WoW sucks.
EDIT: What the masses do doens't always mean its the best or smartest, or even a good thing.
A couple of points - flame posts are like resumes. Sure, they may not contain anything substantive but if you don't make lots of horrible spelling and grammar mistakes, your crappy resume or flame posts will likely be skipped over. But a badly written resume or flame post is going to get you ridiculed, which sadly is the case here.
I also think you're off base when you run down those other games. After looking at a recent release by XFire showing the most popular MMOGs, I realized all the top games on MMORPG's list are also top games played by the public who use XFire. Therefore, I truly believe the list accurately reflects which MMOGs besides WOW are the most popular. This includes EQ2, EVE, and even GW.
I too believe WOW should be in the most popular list, maybe not on top but at least included. However, WOW fans have not made any friends for themselves in proclaiming their game to be the end-all and be-all of not just MMOGs, but PC gaming. That's why few people in this community go out of their way to not vote for it.

I view the ratings on this site sort of like a prize fight. Even notice how two heavyweight fighters can slug it out for 10 three minute rounds? And even if one fighter seems to destroy the other one in punches (barring knockouts/knockdowns) when the three judges turn in their scores its like... .. 99/97, 98/96 and 96/97....
You think to yourself...did they even see the same fight as I did?
Well its sort of like these scores here... do you really think with all the different factors games are rated on they sould all come in within a 10th or two of each other? (like the top 20 games do)
Don't put too much stock in the ratings, I'm sure Blizzard is more than happy with their 8 million customers paying their fees than being first in anyone's rating poll....

if the ratings were changed to only being updated every 24 hours you'd see the top 5 changing everyday from certain people spamming the top 5 over rating their game and down grading the other too much.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

Also Everquest is a lot more origonal than WoW is as it was based on Everquest.
well there technically can be no "Best" because its all opinions and the games are set up differently (apples to oranges)
but WoW should undeniably be the top game simply because it is undeniably the most popular mmo ever (especially in NA and europe, where this site is based)
Everyone playing WoW is playing it because they find it to be better (opinion) than every other mmo they have played, so in essence the number of subscribers is directly linked to the rating.
and before anyone argues the imfamous "mcdonalds is also the most popular, it must be the best too then", they need to think about the reasons mcdonalds is the biggest chain, it hinges on a variety of reasons such as convienience, price, and location. MMOs only have one real variable, whether the game is fun or not, so again it is like comparing apples to oranges.
this site however tends to cater to a fairly "hardcore" group, wow is a casual game for the most part, so that lends to the poor rating
How do u figure Wow is the best game out there...oh ya, i forgot, 6.5million kids are playing that game, so it makes it the best. Wow falls under the perfect saying ' Quantity over Quality' that is what WOW is, no quality just a bunch of kids playing after school
Good post. and the premis sounds about right. But i would add that for many WoW'ers they have only ever palyed one MMO and that is WoW so when they see other MMO's they of course consider them inferior and think they have copied WoW.

If you mad at the ratings simple tell your WoW friends to vote for their game, thats it. But i guess its easy to just tell you that Ratings done mean anything, people can make unlimited accounts and vote for the favorites and bash the other persons game. Thats how you get the top games out there.
EQ 2 didnt copy WoW....for that matter you may wanna get your facts straight, i got nothing against WoW or its community but its sad that most of them think every game is based off WoW. Something i can understand many of them have only played WoW and thus know very little about other games or MMO history but if you are going to speak at least make sure you are right.
Funny story...and im using this one cuz it was the the funniest encuonter ever with a WOW player. I was playing the 14 day trial to Auto assault, and some guy who was also on a trial approaches me and asks me to party. I accept and we go off to do some quests. We were sent to kill off some spiders, he then turns to me and says "this game sucks, were just killing spiders; this is just like WoW" he then logs for good lol.

You guys are such hypocrits. Im 100% sure anyone who has anything bad to say about WoW (Especially about the amount of subscribers) have played it for quite a long time (And enjoyed every second of it).
Stop denying that WoW is one of the most popular and best MMO's at this time. You should be glad this is the case, because every MMO thats gonna come from now on will take WoW as a basis and simply try to make it better (Be it in the same playstyle, or a whole different type). WoW has made this genre popular around the globe (I mean more popular than it already was, after Ultima and EQ were introduced.)
And on a sidenote: Lets say that most of the subscribers are 10 year old kids (Ive seen people claim this, I'd like to see some proof for a change). Who cares, really? You can't and won't like every person you come across online. Obviously, because WoW has a HUGE amount of subscribers, the odds of you meeting a person you despise are drastically increased. Isnt this the case in real life as well? Forgetting the people you dislike and meeting up with people you like?
I feel that, because WoW has set a new standard for MMO's to come, it should be in the top list. People, WoW isnt perfect, but it sure is awesome. Denying this means you either didnt like it the moment you logged on (Which can be the case, tastes differ after all), or you have no clue what youre talking about.
WoW shouldnt be in the list for the amount of subscribers, but because of what it has done for the genre.
By this logic.... Since WOW is popular it should be #1 right?
So since Runescape has more players then the current top 5 should runescape be #2?
Runescape is probably sitting at like #100 because people hate it, but its got way more players then all the other top games.
So you see #players != good game.
When rating the game you have to rate it on catagories, lets look at WOW
Graphics - OK, but not better then lets say guild wars
Fun - This could be a 10 i guess
Sound - Dunno i guess you could give this a 10
Community - poor
Role-Playing - kinda like community, poor
Performance/Lag - this could be very low depending on the server your on and if you have to wait for queues
Value - poor, its one of the most expensive games out there
Service - poor as well, i hear nothing good about this.
So as you can see, WOW does good in some areas but very poor in others. Even if you think WOW is the funnest game out there you cannot discount that it is very flawed in many catagories.
So i think the top 5 is perfectly fine the way it is.
