After finally getting my other gig of RAM, I'm now able to play VG. I am experiencing some stutters, but everyone is, at least that is what you've been saying on the forums. I was looking into Sigil's patch notes and a lot of performance tweaking is coming, so I am going to wait it out in this game and look to the future. I've finally found a new game to play, plus the mounts are freaking sweet in VG. VG has not been out long and no offense the only reason why WoW runs good is because it is made to play on the year 1990-type computers. (J/k) But I am really enjoying VG so far and was a little shady on getting it or not due to the forums bringing it down, but i took a shot and it was for the better. VG players, stick it out, this game is not over yet. Far from it actually. Peace
Lloyd

I will concede that after feeling rather negative about this game, I gave it another shot last night and managed to move the settings up from high performance to balanced. I am not sure if that was possible because of where I was, fewer players, or whether there have been genuine performance improvements..
anyway, suffice to say it looked MUCH better; and a lot of what I was disliking about the game was lessened. The mountain textures began to look like mountain textures... the lanscape became more alive.
That said, I still found a) The water to be awful (compared with the delightful water in LOTRO, it is striking) and b) Most of the mobs to be bland.
But at least I began to see why some people rave about the scenery.
Stutters seem to occur only when loading objects. So the first few seconds after logging in or running into a big city there are usually stutters. Crossing chucks has really smoothed out. Still noticeable across most chunks, but some have become truly seamless.
My FPS has been rising steadily as the continue to patch and optimize and I continue to turn on more and more settings under Highest Quality.
Yes, they missed the boat on water (pun intended). Don't know if they plan to work on that or not.
The beauty of character models vary a lot. Some models are incredible, while others (Lesser Giants) are pretty bland.
The landscape is top-notch. I haven't seen anything that comes close to what VG had accomplished in this arena.
To each his own.
Stutters like you say shouldn't be happening anyway so having to adapt or go thru' them shouldn't be the case, period. Unfortunately, this isn't the only problem in VG. Having to have your settings at low also shouldn't be happening. Why have the graphics making the game look dull and bland in order to play a game? It just shouldn't be happening.
While it may be better then WoW in my opinion it certainly needs a lot more then what I hear is happening so far at this stage in it's existence. While it may be having better performance which sounds all nice -although I doubt it's all that much better- I believe the majority of gamers will wait a lot more before deciding to give it another shot if they even decide that much to begin with.
But hey, you have a few people who like the nge swg and who would of thunk it.
'To each own' Ye great excuse to start bringing down that same negative stuff like always. Those thing you mention like "stutters" are not solely specific to Vanguard, no.
Not being able to run the game on highest settings does not equal that you run it on the lowest settings. The setting balanced is good graphics.
So what you are saying and the other ones are not things that could equal to that one have to bare with this to enjoy the game, not this.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
For me, those issues were always far more important than the performance problems.
(P.S. Has anyone else noticed that a LOT of the OPs in this latest round of fanboi mania seem to have < 50 posts? Just sayin'.)
I think that it's a combination of both. I noticed a distinct improvement in graphics performance last night after the patch, so that helped, but there are also noticeably fewer people on the servers than a month ago. That has helped graphics performance also.
It will be interesting to see what happens to the populations after the LOTRO beta ends.
- How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
- I don't know, but some people without brains do an awful lot of talking, don't they?

That's actually a matter of personal opinion. I for one, enjoyed both the writing and the absolutely amazing world design.
Oh, and by the way... Post Count != Penis Size.
FUNCOM - putting the FUN in disFUNctional !
What post count indicates are ligitimate members vs. members who work for SOE or Sigil an djust come here for viral marketing.
Yes vg is good, but until it runs perfectly on my brand new computer, like oblivion, which has 1000times better graphics and my ping drops bellow 300 I will not play this game. Its like we're back in the early 90's playing duke nukem over 56k. Seriously. And In my opinion wow has better graphics than this game, you can see farther, the spell effects look more realistic, etc. etc. I.e. fire in wow looks like fire.

So at what post count does the legitimate member start at? Just curious. Does mine make the cut? Or does it have to be 1000+ ? I think it would be good to have a set legitimate poster count vs. viral marketer count so we will know what the benchmark is.So, what is the cut-off #?

Well you can't come up with a post count and post it here cause then the viral marketers will have that info and just post to reach that number.
Nice try brad.

Ahh... so then we just to get to randomly assign all the positive posts about Vanguard as viral marketing, no matter what their post-count.And, all the negative posts are true gamers just concerned about their fellow gamers; irregardless of their post-count.
That's some sound logic there.
Pretty funny that you guys shout "Viral Marketing" when someone with a lower post-count comes and posts something positive on a Vanguard forum. (The nerve of them!)
Yet, when some others come with post-counts hundreds or even thousands higher than yours - well then it gets a bit harder to easily dismiss them as "Viral Marketers" doesn't it?
Face it, there are actual gamers out there that play Vanguard... and like it. Shocking I know.
I have to say somethign I have said a ton in alot of my posts on VG.. the one thing I really really enjoy and cant find in other MMO's out right now.
That is the vast number of cool dungeons (only 28-so only seen a bit of them).. but I loved my time in skawlra rock, khelor's end was fun, the elf magic school, hilsbury manor, ruins of trengal keep and others. The stutters are there, but as someone else said this is not generic to Vanguard, when I first bought EQ2 I had to turn the graphics down quite a bit with my machine and got the same kidn of problems.. and its not just with these two SOE games, when I first got WOW (at launch) I also had problems around cities and crowded areas (which are realy the only major areas of problem for me now in VG) and to get to this point in smoothness I dont have to turn the graphics so low they look like crap as someone said... I just have to set them to a reasonable level and to be honest i am able to put grass and tree visuals way up (so the environments lok great) and have the rest so characters and creatures are smooth on edges). It is not the MMO for everyone at all, but its got its fair share of stuff I can't experience the same in other games.
Kalade
Oh.. and if post count is such a problem.. log onto hilsbury server if you actualy have an account an add Kalade (28 dwarf warrior.. and yeah you wil see how often I am on and everything.. that i actualy play!.. even if i dont post non stop on MMORPG.com.... if only i was that cool).
Now wouldn't it be nice if you could actually go underwater in LOTRO?
I mean what kind of hero can't swim.....for real.
Patched and logged in yesterday for the first time after weeks. Performance is exactly the same as it was when i left. Performance was never an issue on my PC tho. So , well i can run around and solo at 45 fps with lots of eye candy. Chunkcrossing seems to be a bit faster.
Good news is also that Sigil has added quests. So far it looked good and i answered a LFG request for Lord Tsangs Tomb.
1) I didnt get an invitation and the guy told me to relog
2) I relogged on the bridge and guess where i was when i logged back in ? Aye, UNDER the bridge and i had to /stuck yes
3) I lost group twice on my 2000m way from bridge to Tsangs Tomb
4) Although i was solo in the wilderness at 45 fps i dropped to 15 fps after i joined the team
5) Reaching Tsangs Tomb my fps droped towards Zero. So being not a VG-Hater i switched to high performance. Doesnt help at all. Mouse and keycontrol of movement is so ductile that its plain unplayable and no fun at all.
6) I logged off
Really, i am not a hater and i hope VG will be ready someday. But Fans please. Tell us something thats important and true. Tell us when they have added quests, tell us when zoning finally works, when pets dont vanish at chunkborders , tell us when grouping finally is possible and fun.
See you in 3 month for the next check
Sorry to hear your problems Eugem. Each experience is true to the individual so the OPs is as true as yours.
If you havent already, try setting your Video Card Controller to performance over quality. You wont see any noticeable difference in graphics but it will certainly help with running with a party. BTW youre not a Bard are you?
The group bug can be annoying and its one of those systems that I feel Sigil have overstretched. In L2 (same engine) you have to be in sight or a much closer range to get a group invite, if I remember correctly. I always wait till I am at least in the chunk next to my party before accepting an invite; but to be sure it wont break, being in the same chunk is best. Ironically if you could only invite a character you could target I doubt we would hear any complaints..its this huge range Sigil have allowed that works erratically that is annoying people.
By the way, if this still exists dont bother relogging when youre asked to. Just tell the guy to send the invite when you are closer..this is not your character being bugged its just the system and a /flush will have the same effect as logiing except take much less time.
Ive had my third "stuck" situ now. To be honest having to unstick myself or wait till Im closer for a party invite isnt anything that bothers me. Had you flushed when you arrived at your party (to delete the old chunk files) you probably wouldnt have suffered the lack of fps, but there are issues with Bards/partying with bards. Invis characters also causes a slight decrease in my system performance; if players cant live with it - I can - ask your party members to only use invis when necessary.
