What do former AO Vets play Now?

Dantes77Dantes77 Member Posts: 106
Like many others, I loved AO especially before shadowlands. I'd still play even now, but I'm not confident there is enough people to communicate with in the game like there was in the past. Even with the froobs.

I've tried EQ, UO, EQ2, WoW, Eve, Star Wars, Vanguard, and so on. Star Wars ALMOST had me, until the CU came out and took away from the community. And my taste is mainly in Sci Fi, so nothing against EQ, and the like, I especially liked UO.

But, Genre aside, who here is a vet from pre SL that still plays or plays another game? I need to stop jumping around from game to game, and settle with one I can play for a while.  Hopefully this could help me gauge my decision.

I wish I could help you but I am in the same boat.

I played AO from almost the start but SL killed the game for me.

Like you I have tried almost everything.  Currently I am playing EQ2 and LOTR.  I dont think anything will replace the "old" days in AO.

    OMNI FOREVER

Played AO on an off for years, I went back about 2 months ago and found the game has nothing for me now. Not becuase the game has gotten any worse, but becuase other games have risen my expectations of "fun" in an MMO. AO just isnt fun for me anymore. :(

So I ended  up going back to WoW. I tried Vanguard for a short time, a few other classics also, DAoC for example but I just dont find the old style "grind" enjoyable. Its WoW for me until AoC or WAR retail.

I still play. Although I usually divide up the year between several games. I also still play EQ and WoW. When I get bored with one, I play one of the others for a while. Eventually I get the itch to go back. If you use those disposable debit cards to pay, its easier to manage the time you spend on whatever games you bounce between.

    Lord Of The Rings Online.

I played AO from day one.  Had to leave about one month after Shadowlands came - the cyberpunk fantasy had completely ruined it all for me.  Then came back when Alien Invasion was released... that time stayed even less than two weeks.  After that it was EQ2, Planetside, BF2142, and all kinds of other stuff... Then came back again to AO on a free "re-trial" account - and, omg, the reality hit: the graphics are very outdated even on my custom-built dual core AMD, basically no players found in the old cities on Rubi-Ka, basically a sad picture.

So - here we go, LOTRO.  By the way, tried Rappelz (cash-shop grind fest that only lasted a month), Guild Wars in between (re-install lasted 2 hours of gameplay when I finally threw away the discs), and the awful, awful experience of Silkroad.

    I'll miss the pre-Shadowlands AO.

Most of my guild went to WoW or Eve online. I personally went to Lineage 2.  But im the odd one of the guild family.

I moved on to SWG when it came out.............

When that game turned to shit I switched to WOW which was entertaining for about 6 months till i just couldnt take the restrictive  parameters and the repetitive grind any more. Played in the PS reserves for a while then took a break from MMOs and played BF2 and BF 2142.

I am currently playing LOTRO but again I am unimpressed and restricted from doing the things I want or being the character I want to be. More cookie cutter class/race/level crap. if it wasnt for the setting and the multitude of role players I wouldnt even bother. I am hoping that stargate online or Tabula Rasa or Huxlex will bring something new to the table. i guess we will see.

I never played AO for its graphics. I really didn't care for them when the game originally released. But the gameplay hook has held me there for years. I have to agree though, SL really does detract from the rest of the game. Definitely an expansion I could have done without. Unfortunately, it was the only way I could get above 200 :(

AI was nice in the beginning, but the fun wore off really fast, and it became as much of a grind as SL was. I'm having mixed feelings about LE, because it just seems too easy. Post 200's doing 160 alien missions for fast AXP and titles is definitely something they should change asap. Its most of the reason I haven't picked that expansion up yet.

I really like the sci-fi genre, so i'm hoping Tabula Rasa turns out to be everything i've read about it. If it is, i'll probably drop WoW out of the loop for it.

Began on Anarchy after most launchbugs were taken care of. Been trying Eve, RF, Planetside, WoW on the side.

Always came back to Anarchy, missed the tweaking and proffessions of anarchy, not that there is no buffs and implant in other mmo's, but Anarchy just satisfies me in terms of building a character, being for PvP or PvM.
Graphics aren't that good but not bad either, do wonder why they stopped improving graphics.
Still roleplaying going on, not that I do that a lot these days, wasn't banned but apperently offended a lot with my roleplaying (still wonder why ppl stop for 5 min and listen just to be offended, Rant over..)
Gonna try Fallen Earth when it comes, otherwise gonna stick to Anarchy :)

Heard of empty cities? Sure I can find one, but I usually go to Borealis, Rome or trade for friendly ppl to talk to

If we aren''t supposed to eat animals, why are they made of food?

AO isn't over yet, it's a great game, unfortunatly there are no games to rival it on the market today, best to wait for AoC or WAR.

I'm kind of surprised given it's one of the few with a sci-fi bent coming out that nobody has mentioned Tabula Rasa

Stratgy or turn based games mainly. Sometimes a F2p import.   The only MMO I am subbed to currently is AO.     If i do play Ao all I  do anymore is log on my twink and goof around helping lower lvls out.

I played AO for the longest time as well, but eventually it became not enough for me, so I juggled some not as good games, Conquer Online, Xenimus, played Asheron's Call for a bit,  Knight Online..I may be coming back, I don't know, if it doesn't have anything for me now, then it's over for good.

I played AO many  year till up AI, but at one point i was simpy bored of an old game, old graphics, old mechanic. It's a matter of opinion, but personally i ask for a game at least good level in all that aspects. AO never evolved and now FC is concentrated to AoC, so i don't expect nothing more. After played many other MMO, it's clear that AO, that was one of the best games around, and one of the few sci-fi based, it's now death. Imho.

To people that mentioned Tabula Rasa, yes, it's promising, but it will be a mix of RPG playstyle and FPS playstyle, so not sure if it will be a game for me, as i don't like FPS games (i played Planetside for a while).

I'm not going to resub AO anymore, nor i play a froob.

Played AO since SL and stopped last year and started to play Auto Assault till now. .. beside that i have CoX subscribed and cancelled due to the boring missions and grind.

All canceled. Waiting on Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning.

I tried AO as a Froob last December, I really loved the concepts in the game however it was just too old for me (graphics, the grind, the lack of players, etc.).  I am in dire need of a sci-fi MMO.  I think we will find many of the old AO players in the new scifi MMO's that will be released later this year.  I for one am totally pumped for Tabula Rasa.  Till then I kill orcs in WOW till  TR's release.

    Current Games: WOW, EVE Online

I've been playing AO since launch, and still spend most of my gaming time wandering around Rubi-Ka.  I do dabble with Eve-Online and Runescape too, but only for a change of scenery, and to chat with friends in there.

I tried pretty much everything but i can't find something that kept me interested as long as AO.  I played AO during 3 years, the only other mmo coming close to that is Asheron's Call.

I got my 7 day free trail when AO was about 6 months old. I played 12 days straight and slept about 15 hours. It was my first MMORPG.

I kept playing for two years. I will play again once I get the bills payed lol. I have kept up with all the updates etc. It seems like its a whole new game from when I started. An remarks on whether I should try to keep going with my level 108 Meta or just start over would be appreciated. I currently have 60 24hr days into her.

Her name is Ara and she is part of the Coven of Hunters. I really miss playing but I have heard a late backlash about the last couple of add ons I am worried.

Anyway on the bright side, though its a totally diff  genre and style of play I have gotten into Tales of Pirates. I actually enjoy it quite a bit and they keep adding new things to it quite frequently as well as having a lot of contests. And its free so I can't really grumble. I have just found it good to still be able to play and have fun at it. While I wait to add AO back to my play list.

What server and what were your characters? I love going over the begining stories of AO.

    Talk to ya all later.
