There, I fixed it for you. The only difference between subscription and item shop games is the amount of grind. There are exceptions, of course, like Lineage 2 requiring a subscription while having the longest grind in MMORPG history or Turf Battles which is item shopped and practically gives you a level every ten minutes. In the end it's all the same shit with a different skin slapped on it.
I don't like the idea of item shops, in-game advertisement, or the sort of people that feel entitled to free MMO's.
Okay, so you don't play sports since someone can buy better gear than you and proceed to kick your ass. You don't listen to the radio or watch TV unless it's satellite or digital cable. Wait! Cable TV and satellite radio both have ads! DOH! You also apparently don't use public libraries, parks, water fountains, bathrooms, THIS FORUM, breath air, or went to a public school, because you aren't are one of those people that are "entitled."
Seriously, they're just fuckin' games. Grow up. I would tell you where you could stick your elitist bullshit, but I don't feel like listing the myriad painful possibilities that you should probably be able to come up with yourself. I doubt you want me to give you anything for free anyway.
BTW, You owe me $5 for this opinion. Email me and I'll tell you how to wire it to me.

Well then, someone's feeling grumpy today!
My position against F2P games has nothing to do with elitism, it has to do with the focus of development, and a sense of entitlement. Everyone wants something for nothing. Sad, really.
Jimmy, I think that perhaps you should consider taking a break from posting on the forums for a bit. You seem far more angry than one should be over this. That advice is free.

Or...perhaps you guys should give the moral high horse bit a rest. I don't know who voted you guys the moral authority on entitlement but I want a re-count..
I mean really..if you've such venom for F2P games than don't play them. Childish F2P bashing aside, publishers will continue to make these titles and I for one say good for them. Honestly its a win-win situation for all, at the very least it pushes P2P publishers & devs to work that much harder.

Childish? Oh my! I'm sorry if you were offended. I could not have known that you were so sensitive to the issue.
I do not see how a F2P game will do anything to motivate P2P developers. The F2P's are generally so much worse in features and content that I do not believe they have much to worry about. Besides... when was the last time you played a F2P game that was more than a virtual chat room with frilly clothing, a grind game, or required you to buy items to be able to do much of anything?
Everyone wants something for nothing. Sad, really.
That would include you? Look, we're all looking for the highest quality at the cheapest price. Kind of an economics 101 concept. Just because I pay 50 cents for a soda from the vending machine near my apartment when people at the motel down the street have to pay 75 cents for the same soda out of the machine at said motel doesn't make the people in my apartment building "freeloaders." It makes us smarter than the tourists that are too lazy to walk an extra block.
Now as for item shop games, I honestly think this pricing model is far more just than the subscription model. People that Play the game more, who eat up more bandwidth, and take the game more seriously pay more through item shops and keep the servers up for more casual players. You also only pay what you think the game is actually worth instead of being forced to either pay the given price or not play at all. I think that $20 every six months is just the right price for FlyFF or Rappelz. Especially since you probably won't be playing either game for longer than six months ;-) Compare that to $120 for six months of WoW (at launch). It's my opinion that there is no single game out right now that is worth more than $60 to play forever. Paying $170 for one game plus the price of expansions for just a year of game time? It better be able to mow my lawn, cook dinner, and bear my children!!
I'm more than willing to pay for something that I want. But if someone is giving something similar away for free (or at least less) then I'm not going to turn my nose up at it.
F2P games with item shops: you get what you pay for.
P2P games w/ purchase/subscription: you don't necessarily get what you pay for, but you pay, anyway.
See the difference, you f2p bashers???
Until there's a p2p game which allows me to play a Shaolin monk using fancy moves to beat up my opponents with my bare fists, I'll stick to my favorite f2p game, thank you.
Paying $170 for one game plus the price of expansions for just a year of game time? It better be able to mow my lawn, cook dinner, and bear my children!!
Soon, very soon.
But seriously, it's not always because someone doesn't want to dish out the money to pay for a game, rather they like the free game that they play. Even if money is the reason they are playing the free game, it is their choice to use that reason and people have the choice to play whatever they want.
Hell, in my opinion, some F2Ps are about the same as P2Ps. Difference being is usually the fact that you have a better community (although this can be debated, some P2Ps have a pretty shitty community I've found), better graphics (which I don't care too much about), and usually the P2Ps mask their grind with quests that are at least mildly interesting. There is also PVP and Crafting systems that most F2Ps don't have and while P2Ps do have these systems, they are usually shitty or underdeveloped.
For me, wither the game has some type of payment to it or not, if I find a game that I like, I will play it. If it costs money to play it, I will pay it for it. If it is free, well that is even better since I keep my money and have a source of entertainment.
This is why developers don't have to make good games...'cause they know that there's gonna be at least 10,000 simpletons that will give them half their lunch money ($14.99) every month for some half-assed POS game!
It's funny seeing you defend F2P games as superior, you must really have missed the bus on this one. Or perhaps, you are too young to have a credit card? Either way... if you truly think that your F2P games are the better choice... I am glad you are on your side of the fence. lol
Go back and read my other post...you know, the one you clipped a little piece out of and then responded to it out of context!
You're one of those guys who like to get their post count up by just posting some random shit...aren't you?!
I think it would be safe for me to block you...I ain't gonna miss anything important anyway. Bye bye.
ArchLord p0wnz.. Rapplez Online is pretty good.. mmm kinda like 9Dragon even though the Devs for that game are truely horriable. there's DANCE! i dont see how they can fuk that up lol sept for making u pay to be black or any other race which is horrible IMO
I think AO is F2P now.. classic but good.
SilkRoad is iffy.. allot ppl like it but it's had its share of botters and hackers.. thats probably the #1 thing in F2P.. botters and hackers... u'll always have gill sellers... free or not
but with ppl giving out F2P MMORPG and MMOFPS games with massive PvP systems.. its hard for P2P games to compete (overall) though i think its possible.. WoW is still at it.. not sure about new new members but if u been playing it u might not stop.. EVE, NeoCron, and FFXI are still active i hear and SWG just cost to much for me but i bet its fully loaded though i hear nothing about it.. always WoW WoW WoW. I love the game and i dont even play it )
CoH and CoV are P2P. I guess they're good.. they have to be.
but I dont think the population will ever be as high as a F2P game but the level of "socialism" in a F2P game is so jumpy but with some saying we have 2.5Million players.. i could see why.
Who cares if it sucks, so long as it's fun? In fact, I enjoy many things that suck. Your mother, for example.
Wow, the last time I told a "mom" joke, I think I was about 8 years old. lolAnd the last time I used a pathetic age-based insult was... never. Even I won't stoop that low.
I really think that your statement is a waste of Bandwidth first you say Free MMO's suck but then you turn around and say you have to buy stuff from the item shop (if you feel like doing this) so it aint free?
So Where is your problem the game is not free because you say that they have an item shop? so therefore in your statement there is no Free MMO so what is it that sucks?
I think it is you trying to make an intelligent statement that sucks.
Plus not all of us have money coming out of arses so we cant all afford to buy ever Big named MMO that comes out so we look for alternatives and sometimes they turn out for the better, And i think a lot of ppl know which game in particular a lot of us have paid for and been very dissapointed in, great potential but bitterely dissapointing thusfar.
I hope this makes sense i'm sure some one will see where i am coming from.
I don't buy it when people say F2P MMOs suck generally and in all aspects. If the games with F2P business model are really that bad, there wouldn't be games using that payment model today. It would have been extinct in Korea the day the first game used it. Asian games now would not have used the model if it was that horrible.
Even P2P games have the capacity to suck, having a subscription model doesn't automatically protect it from being crap. Both types of games still aim to make a living for people who made, why are you complaining? Sucky games are a result of a poorly conceived design (especially endgame and PvP design), and it has NOTHING to do with the business model it's using. F2P games can still be good, try not to generalize them. (no examples needed for people who don't bother to search on their own)
The micropayment method in F2P games is just a new way of finding a way around the money issue. Someone made this solution for their business, could you design another better alternative? So much for the USD 50 and subscription games; if they suck, you lose way more than F2P games. The ability to play a MMO while given choices to pay for more experience is exactly why the F2P games are still here with us.
People resist new changes all the time. Tomatoes were thought poisonous, and telephones were branded of no market value once. It's comfortable under a shell, after all.
Take a look, there's different opinions out there.
