If it's Baldurs Gate Online wow, I wouldn't know what to say :P but I know for sure I'd be signing up just to see what its like heheh, I doubt we'll get an announcement from them until they've started reaching closed beta though, Bioware are very secretive about their work from what I've seen.
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
Star Wars games are played out for me number one ..
number two, star wars galaxies left such a bad taste in my mouth ... im convinced that a star wars MMO would never work ... ....
the reason being the fans all expect too much ... and they expect it in a flavor they like.. and cliches or groups of similar taste form .. they end up fighting the devs nonstop to try and get things their way, resulting in a game 3/4 of the player base will never be happy with ...
not to mention, an overflow of jedi is just cheesy ... when i see 60% of the player base running around as jedi in galaxies acting like fools, it just ruins my image of the movies, and gives the game an aura of kiddie populated servers ...
i honestly could give less a crap .... This whine belongs at the SWG forum. Dude, this is a different company, making another game. It doesn't even have to have similar mechanics. You're just jumping the gun like SWG slept with your wife and kicked you out of your own home or something.

it would be a world of 50,000 jedi running around farming better lightsabers ... it would basically suck ....and people would demand the game to be what they imagined it to be ... and if it didnt cater to their little jedi fantasy they built for themselves in their head .. they'd sabotage the game by complaining non stop to devs ...
star wars cant hack being an MMO ... mainly because alpha characters cant work in MMO's, and MMO's are built on variety

You do realize every other MMO on the market suffers from primarily the same faults as you expressed here?
Every community wants the MMO they play to be the exact way they invision it.. and when its not we get rants on the forums and players quitting, leaving with posts entitled "Why i pushed cancel"
Don't push that solely on Star Wars Galaxies. That wouldn't be fair.
We don't know how a KOTOR MMO would work because we have yet to have one. Just because the KOTOR series itself focuses around a group of jedi does not mean an MMO per-say would give it away like NGE candy in current-day SWG. Take note that in KOTOR you must first 'realize' you are a jedi (character wise) before you can become one. Every Star Wars game had you play either a famous jedi or your own jedi... yet SWG in its hay-day didn't do this. You were put to work on unlocking jedi (a good idea in my view). So how can you be so bias as to say any Star Wars game will harbor the "Same BS mechanics .. Same BS unorigional player population"
By saying that, you are telling me that you see every MMO in the same fashion. Afterall, isn't World of Warcraft merely another Everquest or that Vanguard is another lineage II?
Of course not... right? Afterall they all have different stories and different systems. They have different subscribers and are created by different companies. So they have to be different...
But in the way you explain it.. to me at least... i hear you saying that... World of Warcraft and Everquest are one in the same.. They may be different games and have different box art to sell with.. but they are both medieval themed, aren't they? They both deal with swords, spells, axes, and armor.. with similar classes? (though i will admit EQ2 has a much larger selection lol)
Its the same with Star Wars games. They all carry the same major theme.. they deal with a futuristic-like civilization set in a galaxy 'far far away'. But each tell different stories of that place, though similar may they be.
Every MMO has its alpha characters.. some just don't show outright like jedi do in Star Wars Galaxies or a possible KOTOR persay.. not to mention... not EVERYONE plays a jedi. I for one played a Doctor/Ranger pre-NGE... and yeah i did unlock jedi before the NGE... but it wasn't my taste. I prefered to play my character and not a fan-boy recreation of Luke skywalker or mace windu.. Though there are alot that will play jedi.. not everyone will.. have to take that into mind.
And with that... i've lost my train of thought! haha
Everquest - 2000 - '02 Anarchy Online - '01-'02 Earth and Beyond - '02-'04 Star Wars Galaxies - '03-'06('07) World of Warcraft - '04-'07 Age of Conan - '08 - shelved. -Waiting on- Star Trek Online SW: The Old Republic
Just for the record, on the topic of BioWare developing KOTOR and not KOTOR II.... the KOTOR story line was much better than KOTOR II imo.
I know I'm in the minoity but I prefered the storyline in KOTOR 2. The plot twist in KOTOR 1 really didn't appeal to me at all. KOTOR 1 was actualy released finished though, KOTOR 2 started feeling far to patchy near the end. I'm looking forward to seeing what Mass Effect turns out like.
I hear you!
I looooved KOTOR 2. I always thought Star Wars were over hyped and bland and was never a fan of series. KOTOR 2 made me go out and buy some Star Wars fiction, which I never thought I would do. The books sucked ass of course but KOTOR 2 is by far my favorite storyline and game. I have to say that KOTOR 2 comes very close to any fantasy fiction novels I enjoy so much.
Is it true that the HERO engine can knock years off Development time?
Sure, look at Oblivion. If you've ever played oblivion or at least even looked at screenshots.. you'll notice the gigantic ammount of forest in the game.. those trees weren't placed by hand.. but instead a program i can't quite put my thumb on (its 'treegen' or something) generated most of the forest for the developers. they just cut out what they wanted and plopped down coded quests and dungeons in place of the automated forests..
Theres no doubt the Hero engine could help them shave of development time..

Also if you read this the developers are stating here that they are not telling yet (possibly due to license issues)

Read the entire description of responsibilities. That job right there pretty much spells out that this MMO is based on a licensed property. I'm actually surprised at this, as I thought they would be going the route of an original IP.
Ah well, I'm sure a KOTOR MMO won't be a bad thing at all.

Another thing about that job posting--it also mentions that the candidate should have both PC and console experience (sounds like a multi-platform MMO).

Well to answer this on the offical lucas arts website there is a mmo for starwars coming out here is the
linkhttp://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/
dont know if this is exactly what u ment by kotor online but close enough?
Games Playing:Conquer Online
Games Played:Runescape, Adventure Quest, Xiah, Bots
Bioware is not doing anymore third party IPs. Not Dungeons and Dragons. Not Star Wars. Deal.
And my own personal opinion:
A KOTOR MMO would be horrible and would ruin what makes the series great.

Life sucks, buy a helmet.
A KOTOR mmo by Bioware > SWG by SOE. Only time will tell. I will be questioning The Bioware rep at Dragon Con 07.

I was wondering when Bioware/Pandemic was going to release an MMO but I would be disappointed if it was Star Wars. I never did like the franchise.
