I agree, as far as innovation goes, Fallen Earth looks rather innovative :)

    Hoping it's a hit.

It will probably be Sirens, since it is being made without economy in mind.

Fallen Earth is not innovative, neither is Darkfall Online. They are using old ideas that other, bigger MMOs simply shun because they do not want to scare their fragile players. I like the look of both those games, but I wouldn't say they are innovative.

When you say innovative, it would have to be something that is actually different to anything that has already been done. I have not seen anyone taking that step yet.
  • JohnPitsJohnPits Member Posts: 8
The whole post-apocalyptic genre is innovative.

So is the whole FPS thing in an MMO.

Now you're going to say, no it's not, this game has done it and so has this one, but regardless, it's still fairly innovative in the way it's putting it all together.

I agree with you where you have stated that innovation is lacking in games at the moment, but I just mentioned the game that came to my mind that has something innovative going for it.

There aren't many games out that offer much innovation at all, most are just mods of other games, but the most innovative I could think of was FE.
  • RymdkejsarenRymdkejsaren Member Posts: 78
Well I like that MMOs are moving towards more real-time combat as opposed to same old queing of actions. Even AoC has realtime combat, and I think it will be a big time player when it is out.

The idea is not new though, and calling it innovative just seems wrong to me, what with it being a feature that has been in SP games since the 1980s and several MMOs have used earlier.
  • JohnPitsJohnPits Member Posts: 8
I'm hoping AoC is a hit when it comes out :)

That's what I'll be jumping on as soon as it's out.

Been following more so than anything else coming out.

Ordering my new PC tonight as well with DX10 capabilities, so it better be F*#&in' good :)

    None.

I am not really interested in the latest games, they for the most part all seem Fantasy based and identical.  I really wish someone would come up with something more fresh, though if it works and makes money then I guess why change the genre?

IF it has been done in a game already then it is no longer innovative so fps in an mmo is definitely not innovative because of planetside.

warhammer online is a very innovative game if u look into it, with the largest varience in pvp in any mmo, and the new community quest system that they are going to put in.  its really going to have a whole new feel to it.

Well, without having actually tried any of them I'm looking forward to Fallen Earth and Tabula Rasa. The best thing about these games is there ain't gonna be no gawd darn Elves.

  • The most innovative upcoming MMOG would have to be...um...well there's...uh.....

None of that is new I'm afraid, its not common, but it can't really considered innovation by any means. AoC does have a number of brand spanking new features. While the combat system in Conan is interesting, they aren't the first to utilize the idea. I'm talking in terms of their magic system, group AI, individual AI, and a few other areas.

Oh, and Warhammer does not have the largest varience in PvP either, it has big PvP, it has in your face 24/7 PvP, but not a remarkably wide variety of it, as similar situation is in effect with AoC, I'm not playing favorites, in this case at any rate.

Besides the fact it's fantasy, what about Spellborn? You can't get more diffrent then a spinning skillbar with a ton of options in skills and combos, actal skill based combat, not to menton a HUGE selection of really good looking amour from the start WITHOUT STATS AT ALL!!!!!!!

Or it it being overshadowed by AoC as normal?

    Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!

Looks like it, I hate to say it, but I personally have yet to see anything that really made me want to play TCoS. Also, once again, features that are different from normal are not necessarily new.

Yes, I copied and pasted most of this information. I saw no point in typing this in my own words for this post.

    Pirates of the Burning Sea

    http://www.flyinglab.com/pirates/index.php

    PvP-Conquerable World:

The Caribbean of 1720 is home to many dozens of ports belonging to the three great powers: Britain, France, and Spain. Each port is a valuable source of goods, equipment, and mission patrons. Players use PvE missions to destabilize a port, making it eligible for conquest by their nation. With enough players doing enough missions, the conquest mode begins and the ocean for many leagues around the port becomes an open PvP environment. This unlocks new PvE missions to smuggle in supplies, destroy fortifications, and tilt the odds in your favor. Scheduled PvP battles culminate in a final conflict to either save the port or conquer it.
Every day, each nation receives victory points on the basis of its port holdings. The first nation to reach the goal is declared the victor, and celebrations and awards ensue. Then treaties are signed, ports revert to their original sides, and a new round of conflict begins.

    Sophisticated Missions:

Our mission system gives you a starring role in your own epic. Each player accumulates a personal supporting cast of NPCs, including old enemies, new friends, lost loves, and treacherous allies. No two players have the same cast, and their stories will take them to different places and fight in different battles. And since each NPC can have multiple roles, the pirate who is your arch-nemesis may be the good friend and ally of an enemy player. Your long-lost cousin may turn out to be your best friend's sweetheart - or a treacherous spy! We bring the plot twists and the bold adventure of classic adventure fiction to life every time you play.

Ship battles aren't just spawn camps. Our AI personalities and dynamic goals ensure that no two battles are alike. Unexpected reinforcements, nighttime stealth missions, and optional secondary objectives mean you get gameplay as intricate as any handcrafted single-player game level.

    Player Created Content:

Pirates of the Burning Sea allows players to use their very own custom flags, sail patterns and even ships in the game. Many of our users have already submitted their creations to our site for peer review, but we want everyone to have this exciting opportunity.

The two easiest areas of artistic expression are flags and sails. The sails on sailing ships are huge, and a bold design emblazoned across your topsails will be seen for miles around. In addition, there’s something almost spiritual about hoisting your handmade jolly roger for all to see. Let’s see what it takes to get these from concept to implementation, starting with the flags.

    Advanced 3D Player Created Content.

Players that are experinced 3D artist and have a knowledge of ship building have created some ships to an acceptable level, and their 3D ship models will be used by all players in-game.

I don't know of another mainstream MMO that allowed players an opportunity to create so much real content for their game before and at such a level. Players have been and can continue to build 3D ship models with Maya and other software that with actually be crewed by players and that those players will use on their adventures and naval fights.

Granado Espada no doubt.  The triple character control adds whole new dimensions.  I can't stand playing the slow action games anymore after experiencing the masterpiece known as Granado Espada.

    This is "not" innovative.

    1. Guild Wars allowed you to fight with multiple npc characters in its very first issue.
    2. City of Villians Master Mind class has 6 NPC characters with diffrent abilities that fight allong side the player.
    3. Gods & Heroes is also comming out with this squad based system.

    im going with Tabula Rasa.

****was going to post more but i got side tracked with somthing and lost my train of thought****

  • AmaraoAmarao Member UncommonPosts: 650
I say Tabula Rasa, because it looks like it meshes a third person shooter and  an mmo very nicely.

Although it seems more like a third person shooter, from all the interviews I have seen it looks like

they have alot of mmo touches mixed in.

As for the near future, I would have to go with Tabula Rasa.  It will be sci-fi and I have a feeling we'll be in for quite a few nice surprises along the way as well.

Next year after the release of WAR, look for the long awaited Aion to make an appearance.  I dare say there is quite some potential there, but very little knowledge about the mechanics of the game.

Because of the fact you compare it to Guild Wars and City of Villains master mind class, I'm going to assume that you never played Granado Espada.

Gods & Heroes hasn't even been released yet, Granado Espada has been released months ago. if anything, its G&H that lacks the innovation, not GE.

Well.. i played Dungeon Master around 20 years ago.. and there i had three characters to control. It is not innovativ, they have just grabbed a old feature from solo rpgs and put it into MMO. Nothing else.

But to be honest, real innovativ features are really rare.. so i dont mind.

The idea of Pirates of the Burning Sea is at least more or less innovativ, even if it is just Pirates! as MMO..

Tabula Rasa offers also some innovativ features, but i dont see a really innovativ mmo at all.
