I like to think if in terms of if you won 100 million dollars in the lottery what are the top 5 games you would make, My favorites are mmo's so It would defintely for me fall into this order.
1. Star Wars (Thrawn Online)-The reason, kotor has been done, swg (ep4-5) has been done. I am a huge star wars nut and there is nothing out there about the Thrawn trilogy which is a great set to read. It has the Evil Vong, space, Jedi are noobs once again and not all powerful yodas, there's still all the smuggler and bounty hunter types. Heck even the Empire "somewhat" exists but joins up with the alliance to fight the Vong. That would be the shiznitz uber mmo.
2. Alpha and Omega (or Armagedden)Online-This would be my 2nd choice, I've always thought about how religion could be tempted with gaming. What if you could play 1 of 2 factions, considering a large population of the world is Christian it would defintely be more of a niche game but It would have Angels and Demons as the 2 factions. What they would do is basically fight over the souls of man. Demons would go to bars and whore houses and clubs (estasy) and tempt man into giving up their souls or corrupt them to commit murder etc breaking all the rules.. Angels on the other hand would save people from getting hit by busses, give visions of futures, cause relgions fervor and build up the church for soul collection day (Armageddon). In game events could be awesome, think of all the natural disasters just waiting to wipe out populations? This could even be a class game (guardian angels, harpes messengers, lower demons, possessors etc). I think it reminds me of my days playing old sims games and really loving those games, controlling the lives and destiny of my little sims.
3. Evolution-Dinosour families, basically you evolve or die. Reproducing near lava vapers or drinking water from fresh springs changes your and off springs bodies, greenhouse gases (remember that old game gaia something like that) basically causing mutations in your dino. You can pick classes with this as well tanks (stegosourus), DPS (T-rex), Mage-Spitting acid dinos and ranged. Heck even flying dinos. Reproduction and evolution is the soul idea for the game, cross mating...eww that'd make for some wierd dinos wouldn't it....but guilds would be awesome. Lots of faction wars, and treacherous in-game events (volcanos, meteors). I haven't really thought this one through totally yet though.
4. Dyson-Basically this would be a huge dyson sphere surrounding a distant solar system (and planets) like Vega or something in the far future. Could have some really far out aliens or just strange aliens or whatever. Haven't given this one much thought past that either, but you can tell I love sci-fi.
5. Dragonz-This is my fantasy addition. There are 5 faction of humans (different clans if you will) and these clans are basically like scottish clansmen and each pretty much all hate the other and live in different areas, desert, highlands, rocks, lakelands and plains. Each have their specialities but they stick to their own mostly and in-fight a lot. I don't do a lot of fantasy thinking since i'm mroe of a sci-fi nut but I thought this one could have permadeath, complete 100% skillbased system and have dragons in it as a playable race. Also even though I don't want them really it must have elves to pan to that group. It defintely would have dwarves. Goblins would be foes, Ukrahs would be more like large trolls would also be an evil race, Dark elves would be needed to counter the other elves and a race of dwerren that were evilish (hated by the main dwarves). PVP Centric but the race of man are the most dominant of all the races, the others would not have many available or I would make then all NPC's entirely. Thinking in terms of Tolkien basically the race of men are the 5 races and all others are npc's and you could gain and lose rep/faction etc depending on what quests you did for each of these races and how they interact with each other. For instance if you were near trolls and good dwarfs the dwarfs may help you fight the trolls but if they were say dark elves they would both attack you kinda thing. Dragons being the most mysterious and majical of all of these races (I'm still not certain though on making them playable) Maybe if I made the others playable so they'd be opposites to Barbarian men (the strongest of the men race).
Thats my top 5, course I left out a mob one which would be good, an african tribe one, Arabian knights, Legends (think greeks and roman history). Centurion (kind of like a futuristic roman empire) and Wraith (think ghosts goblins all things spooky that you wreak havoc in an area and move on colleccting scare points). I have some whackier ones then these though.
1 - A horror survival game: Something like a Resi evil game or something based on "28 days later".
2 - NeoCron - as it should have been.
3 - Mythology - God of war inspired game
4 - GTA the MMO. Gang warfare versus civil authorities (COH vs COV style)
5 - Corporate Man; An MMo based on wheeling and dealing, succesfully climbing the corporate ladder to reach the illustrious top of the management chain...oh wait...screw that, its why I play games in the first place.
My dream has always been to see the original Star Wars movies made using an updated version of the Infinity Engine. Basically it would be Baldur's Gate style controlling six people in strategy style combat with all the features of the old IE. You would play through the game as Luke Skywalker.
After that I would like to make my own IP, but I haven't decieded what it is. I wont use traditional fantasy creatures though. I will make my own up.
I'd love to see a Japanese Martial Arts style MMO, a la the James Clavell novels (Shogun, etc). One thing that would be crucial would be swordplay and crafting. It wouldn't even have to take place on Earth. Some mix of Sci-Fi/Samurai/Ninja would work just as well.
As far as the combat goes, I think that the devs at Funcom have a great idea with the combat for AoC. I could see some really intense sword fights with a similar system. We've had enough of the button mashing and skill queueing in MMOs. Bring some skill back to the genre, while adding a fun factor of some of the old fighting games. Some possible classes or fighting styles would include:
Judo "the gentle way"
Karate "the way of the empty hand"
Kendo "the way of the sword"
Kyudo "the way of the bow"
Aikido "the way of harmony of the spirit"
Sumo Sumo wrestling
Samurai Japanese warrior
The crafting and resource gathering system would need to be fairly extensive. I think one of the things SWG did right was the resource surveying/harvesting. Using a similar system to build and hire resource camps or structures would be ideal. Crafting would take the art of Japanese Swordsmiths for an example. Skill, customization and appearance is crucial. Crafting in other games is too simple (WoW) or tedious (Vanguard). Striking some middleground while allowing players to add their own personal touch to every item. In other words...making crafting fun is key.
I think a game like this would be a great MMO. It would be a big attraction, since most people have a great interest in Martial Arts and Japanese culture/history. The potential playerbase worldwide could be huge.
I'd like to see an MMOFPS that isn't strictly competition based. Basically the same stylings of other MMORPGs but with guns that you aimed yourself or spells/arrows you aimed yourself etc. Something either similar to Oblivion or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
they are making many mmofps atm the most prominent being HUXLEY! huxley is gonna rock look it up sometime sure to be a keeper
Don't TRY and deny that a Pokemon MMO would be amazing. Thats not sci fi or fantasy, I call it crazy japenese genre (along with dragon ball Z, FF and more things which make no sence). Anyhow we all loved the kick ass RPG's on the gameboy, didn't we? Imagine a real time, this generation graphics online pokemeon game. Shame the franchise hasn't moved from 2d graphics or gameplay over the past 10 years, so i can't see jack happening.

I want a sandbox style MMOFPS, which is why I used STALKER as an example, since its similar in style to the Elder Scrolls games except its set with guns etc. That would be great.
A spaghetti western MMO would be neat. Those old Clint Eastwood movies were the best IMO. Equip poncho. You skill system could consist of riles, pistols, duel guns, knives, and army sabres. Some riles could have beyanets attached. Crafting skills could include farming, blacksmithing, wood working, and cloth/leather working.

To err is human....to play is divine

Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
Regarding the Western MMO, I think a Dark Tower inspired MMO would be a great idea. A bit of Western with a mix of Scifi/Fantasy.
My blog:
Pirates of the burning see - Different gameplay, different setting.
Gods & Heroes - Different gameplay, different setting.Modern day setting - cyberpunk - magic mix.
Or any white wolf game.
