    Wow.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

My, that's mature, particularly for someone who attempted to type his magnum opus against trolling in fluorescent, oversized fonts. Please take your big yellow crayon and a coloring book and go play in another room. The adults wish to have a discussion. Oh, and do try to color inside the lines.

P.S. I'll discuss whatever subject I wish, thanks. I don't require a 'by your leave' from you, princess.

Maybe this is more to your liking, whiner.  And yes, I was giving you your leave to continue whining about whatever you want to whine about.  It's Mor****on FTW!

No, you can't disguise your lack of true intellect by the pointless use of big words and Latin terms.  That's too easy to laugh at anyway.  And bringing out the "maturity" goad is pretty freaking childish in it's own right, but it's the first defense of the indefensible.  ROFLMAO

Kalmenicus set MMORPG.com straight, and he could teach Mor****on a thing or two, too.

My, look at all the colors. You've been busy, princess.  Did you get a 'My Little Pony' font set for Christmas?  Perhaps if you used as much effort in your thought processes as you do in changing font sizes and colors, folks would actually care what you say.  Or not. In your case I believe using 'invisible fonts' would be preferable, as it matches your intellect.

LOL, Well, on the one hand, we have an OP who's profile says he's living in London of all places, but yet his native language spells Tolkien "Tolkin" which means he has to be a Slav or some other Eastern European to have that make any sense. The fact that he lives in London of all places just makes that more amusing. That was a fun little debate.

Then on the other hand, we have people who still haven't been able to figure out how someone can play a game for a week or even a few hours and not like it. I'll never figure figure that one out.

    To the OP:

Your food analogy is flawed. If you serve your daughter a steak and she doesn't like it, is it really likely that she'll like a steak topped with gravy? Adding something small to a prime ingredient probably won't change anything.

No matter what content there is after my few hours or one week of playing, the combat is still going to be the point and click cookie-cutter MMO combat that I can get anywhere and don't particularly enjoy right now.

    I'm afraid I don't understand your point (in fact, I hope I don't.)

I am Hungarian, and for over 1,5 years (up till April, this year) my location of residence was Galway, Ireland. What's the matter with nationalities and geographical locations?

You also seem to speak English pretty well, though as much as I have heard, 500 years ago people only spoke native american language in the location where you're living. I have no problems with that, though :)

Well you wanna know something that will really piss you Lotr People off, I played this game for a total of 1.5 hours.  I could have told you in the first 30 mins i didnt like it.

When you have played alot of mmorpg's you can get into one and pretty much figure the main idea out in the first 30 mins.Lackluster animation, Decent graphics but worthless art direction.  The entire combat system is the same crap we have all been using for years, just done worse than the competitors.

Also after playing Turbines Pile of crap known as D&D online it was pretty easy to see i wasnt going to enjoy anymore than my 1.5 hours i put in.

Turbine im sure will continue to suck up excellent IP's and turn them into Garbage.

But hey thats just my opinion, I've only played Eq, Eq2, Anarchy Online, D&D online, COH, COV, SWG, Eve, Vanguard, Jumpgate(first space mmo), Earth and Beyond, WOW, that crappy one that came out last year with the robots and all the potion eating, this lotr game, Auto Assault, and pretty much every other mmo except Planscape cause it scares me.  I gave each of these games an honest try and some i played for years, some i still play.

    Oh and Guild Wars.

Lick Here you could be one of the lucky 10!!!

It is *not* garbage. You don't like it: fine, can't please everyone. If your idea of an "honest try" is 1.5 hours, than your opinion is invalid in judging MMO's. Poor try, even for trolling. Bye-bye!

So i have to waste how many hours of my life in a crappy game before my opinion is valid.

I am not a troll, this thread is full of opinions and this is mine, I have seen good art direction in games, i have jumped into MMO's and immediately enjoyed myself. With lotr this was not the case on either front.

I apologize if i somehow hurt your feelings.

You did not hurt my feelings, I just pinpointed that you are a troll.

Reread your edit, you are saying about me what you are in fact doing yourself right now.

You are saying: it is garbage. (objective, but false) - check the couple thousand player and the 30ish mag reviews.

I say: I like it. (subjective, as it is my opinion only)

The reason i started with that phrase is to set the tone for my post. If you had read the previous posts you would see the posters getting so incredibly bent out of shape on eachother that they hav broken down to arguing gramar and spelling.

I posted my opinion which im sure will be bashed, which i covered in the first line of the post. Essentially covering the initial reaction.

The point is, i could have said i only played 21 hours like the other guys, but then i would have waster 19.5 hours of my life finding out what i already knew, this game in my opinion is not up to the standards i would put a Next Gen mmo. Again i am sorry if you think that i am a troll, but the real trolls in this thread are the ones arguing about Tollkheinnnn, Tolkin, Token, and other bs like that.

In the future i will just post dumb and not pretend like i dont know the reaction im going to get on my opinion if that would make you feel better.

Man, this is a great thread!!

You're a troll, you talk funny, you're immature, I've played longer than you so I know more, I've read more Tolkien than you.....such amusing reading while sitting at work wishing I was home playing LotRO.

Keep up the good work people!!

This thread is a perfect example of why the MMORPG.COM community has quickly degraded into a bunch of immature pack of 12 year olds. This thread is clearly a baiting/trolling thread and the mods just let it sit here to further degrade the communty. Threads like this give this site a bad name. What reputable person whats to be associated with a site that has 12 year olds baiting each other into flame wars? No wonder there are so many gold seller ads. They are they only people willing to associate with this joke of a community.

No i did not say the game itself was gabage, i said the art direction was garbage. I did say i didnt like the game yes.

When i say the art direction is garbage, i dont mean the graphics aren't decent, what i mean is the world feels like a broadway set and not a world at all

. Lets take eq2 for example, the character models are very pretty, but you look at the landscape and its almost exactly like eq1, Large land tiles, seams in the tiles, and just a kind of barren feel to it, and that kind of art directions seems lackluster in this day and age.

I dont personally care about magazine reviews. They did not play the game for me. I played the game for me. As for this being my 5th post, i could really care less that you have posted more times than me. I didnt not like the game.

Simplified version of all my posts: In my opinion i find Lotro missing what makes an mmorpg fun for me, the immersion.

If you know that you are going to piss of a community, and you still go on with your posting, then this means you are a troll.

By referring to the people who are (a little offtopic) arguing about spelling of Tolkien as "trolls", it is obvious that you don't know what a troll is (ie what an _internet_ troll is). A troll is someone who is posting to piss people off deliberately, with our without providing his true/untrue point of view on something. From the sentence I have cited it is clear that you were aware of that you will piss people off, therefore you are a troll.

Furthermore: if you had been posting without the intention of trolling, you could have simply said that you do NOT like, or even hate the game - nobody in their sane mind would be offended by the fact that it is not your taste.

However, you KNEW that by mentioning that you only played 1,5 hours you have discredited your opinion as unbiased or well-grounded about the game. Also - you wrote down the words "the game is garbage", which is obviously not true, and you know it.

Your post was full of deliberate insults, and you even admitted that. It could be cited as an example post for trolling on Wikipedia :)

Again (lastly), I am by no way offended, you gave me a little chance for entertainment. We have many many more heavyweight trolls on these forums, you seem to be new in the trolling business so I decided to give a little insight :)

    No offense intended!

Ok you are right im wrong. I love this game and obviously the Lotro community is teeming with awesome individuals like yourself. Ill have to go right out and waste more of my life so my opinion will be validated.

Get over yourself. My post was about the fact that people are saying you cant tell in 21 hours if you like i game, well i am saying i could tell in 1.5 hours i didnt like it.

If you played Super Mario Bros 1 for 1.5 hours and said you didnt like it, i would believe you. I would not say well you didnt get to the bowser fight, you never did the underwater level 7. You know nothing of super mario brothers and how awesome it is. Did you get to the Pink Square-1 level, no. But you found out you didnt like the game. Same scenario. The only difference is i started my post with a psychic reading based on what i had read so far in the thread.

I did not insult anyone in my op. I made it pretty obvious i have not like turbines games. This thread was about one of them. I made my opinion known, i stated my experience in the genre. Yes i admit if read wrong the first sentence of my post could sound caustic. But if read in context with the rest of the thread it makes sense.

Simple version: I didnt like the game due to the lackluster art direction and cardboard feeling of the game.

Your last sentence "Simple version" is perfectly fine. If you omitted the "piss-off " sentence from your first post in this chain, and would not have said that the game is garbage (NOT the art direction, you said the GAME is garbage, read it again pls), then nobody could draw the immediate conclusion: you are trolling.

My apologies if I was a little raw on the subject, but the "played an hour, game is crap" type immature troll is type of post/poster that people tolerate less and less. If you are not one of those, do not behave the way they do

My point was simply that Tolkien was a British author, and thus to live in London, the capital of all things English, has an extra level of hilarity if you're debating how to pronounce or spell the name of Tolkien. That was my point.

As for the rest of your post, I don't get what you're saying.

I'm not discounting your opinion here... I'm just curious what, in particular, gave you the impression of it feeling like cardboard?

If you started as an Elf and did the whole introduction in that area, honestly... at least for the first parts of it, I would almost agree with you. When I first tried the game in beta, I was pretty underwhelmed by it, too and... yes, the area did feel very contrived and "prop-ish" to me. I used the word "claustrophobic" to describe it to a friend. If you started in another area, then I can't really say because I've only really ever played an Elf (so far).

However... once I got past that area, and got to Celondim and began to venture out - completely different experience. The world suddenly seemed huge, massive.. and not at all like something from a Hollywood sound stage. I'm a virtual environment freak, myself, and this game has me gawking practically every 5 minutes. There's such an amazing mix of grandeur and subtlety in LoTRO - specifically in the environment design, (but in other areas as well), that I really wonder how much time the designers must have put into their creation.

Also... just by way of comparison - since I've played a number of the MMOs you listed - which of those do you feel did a really solid job of environment designs that didn't feel like cardboard?

And, I will agree... if you weren't fishing for hostile responses, that "this is going to piss you off" comment really should have been left out.

I have to agree with you here , i also played all other games and none of them could ever compare with the grandeur design of LOTRE's enviroment

it never stops to amaze me ,,, that’s why I love exploring and getting lost in the wild ...and would buy another expansions even  just for mare sightseeing  of the middle earth and curiosity to see what the rest of the map(Middle earth) is going to look like
