Any one else tired of these soloable mmorpgs?

With all these highly soloable mmos out with the exception of FFXI to a point i miss the good ol days of EQ where most of it was group based but it was extremely fun. People wonder why mmorpgs get boring so easily because all it is, is solo to end game then raid raid raid.

I thought perhaps that was the case, but I've tried some games since EQ that have been group based like Final Fantasy XI an Vanguard and I must say that it's to much of a hassle to go out of the way for other people in games all the time.  I much prefer to explore the world alone and see what happens.  I do enjoy seeing other people running around and talking though as it makes the world feel more alive.  I'm a layed back person and I'm playing games to relax.  Too often it stresses me out to be involved in groups or even worse raids.

This MMORPG I play,  NexusTK, is group based hunting. I mean you could solo but it's not worth it. Plus, since it has a great community based set-up (such as clans, player-ran paths) it is easy to get hunting buddies. I mean, if you like group hunting and fun, NexusTK isn't that bad of a game to try out.  But yea, I get sick of solo'ing too =/   Hence why I like NexusTK.

If I log on at a time when there's maybe 2 guildies on and want to play for an hour or two, what can I do in a group-only game? I'd need to spend a quarter to a half of my time just getting a group, meeting up with them, and getting started, and if it's a bad group my whole session is pretty much shot. I've talked with people who played games like FFXI, and they'd serious spend hours just looking for a group to level up in; not my idea of fun at all.

Personally, I wouldn't even bother to try an MMORPG that lacked significant soloable content. Even when I want to group with people, I like being able to do something while the group is assembling.

No, I'm not tired of them at all.  If you don't like solo play, there are plenty of opportunities to group in every MMORPG. . For those of us who enjoy solo play, the games don't "get boring so easily."

I'm actually sick of games that require a group to experience a majority of the content. I'm playing City of Heroes right now, with scalable missions and adjustable difficulty, and I enjoy the ability to play solo, play in a duo, or play in a  group of almost any size, any time I want. It beats the hell out of standing around Ironforge for two hours, looking for a priest.

If by highly soloable you mean EASY to advance, then I agree. The newer games are dummied down for the masses.

I solod all the time in old school EQ1. It had plenty of solo content if you picked the right class being druid or necro, but it was challenging and fun.

Raiding sucks. Nuff said about that topic.

its hard if not impossible to make a group oriented game that you can solo on. if you can solo most won't bother lfg for an hour or more. i do miss the good ole days on EQOA getting a group and grinding for 8hours + in one sitting, it was a great comunity make ALOT more friends in the group grind games than in these solo games. where the only interaction you get is getting 4 random people doing an instance you complete in 45 min and never see them again or if you do you don't remember having ever played with them before.if you get in a good guild they're more than likely the only people you socialize with on there.

the MAIN reason i left EQOA was because you NEED a group wich like i stated i enjoyed, BUT i could never get groups for my Damage dealer classes in the mid 30s wich had become my favorite classes. they sat at the same lvls for months before i gave up and started playing a different game (WoW).

so not really tired of them but group grinds will never be as popular.

Yeah, an MMO should have enough versatility to allow both soloing and groups of all sizes. It's got a wide appeal, and that's what counts.

It's not hard to make a game that is designed for groups and soloers, it's actually pretty easy. Group content becomes solo content over time as you advance. The only exception would be some easier mobs at the bginning to solo and then some more difficult encounters at the higher end that challenge a group.

Old school EQ1 had it right as you could both solo and group, but soloing was by no means an easy route. By creating diversity among the classes, some were better soloers while others contributed more to a group. You made your choice based on playstyle preference.

Ragnarok Online is very soloable from lvl 1 to 99... but with a good party is 2x to 4x fast to grind... some builds need help 4ever to lvlup (forjers and support builds), but the marjority can go solo with no problem or little problems that can be solved with proper equips. You can search and pay for a slave priest too....

    Ragnarok bRO Monk Player...

    Quited RO...

No, i demand more Soloable games! I hate having to rely on other people to get what i want. Unless its godly equips. Also, it takes quite some time to make a decent party or find one.

If by EQ being hard you mean took a sick amount of time camping mob spawns for weeks on end to see your Exp bar slowely inch across a screen, then yeah it took tremendous brains to wack those moles in one location for hours=)   DId someone actually say EQ had solo content?  What  world of alternate reality were you playing?  Next you'll say DAOC had solo content just because you could wack grey, or green mobs or whatever the easy mob color was at the time.  Not content.  Thats called mindless grinding.
  • SignusMSignusM Member Posts: 2,225
I totally agree. I mean, soloing should be an option, but it shouldn't be SO easy, and SO much superior (usually) to grouping. I am sick to DEATH of people nowadays ONLY grouping if theres a quest with a mob they can't kill. They grab 5 people to kill it and all continue questng solo.  Questing is WORSE than grinding now! Back in the day, you used to be able to group with people, farm some mobs, go through a dungeon, get some loot. Then quests were a nice break, usually rewards you with a litltle exp and a new weapon. Now, its the ONLY way to level. It waters down all quests and replaces grinding with something worse at the same time. At least with grinding, you could group with people and socialize.

Why can't games nowadays just make it so that grouping gives some kind of bonus? In oldschool DAoC you used to get a group bonus on xp. There was also more downtime, so a group was a great way to level. Isn't that what an MMO is supposed to have??

Why buy an online game to SOLO?

Hoorah questing, instancing, and soloing! Working hard to take the MMO out of MMORPG.

I agree, i am sick of this simpleton trend. I am older, have a wife and kid and a life. But when I do get time to play a game, i don't want it so frickin simply i can just put the mouse in front of my dog and watch him play it.

Solo play does not automatically equal simple play.  There're alot of examples of great solo content in MMORPGs.

To the OP: hell no.  Games with solo content give me a choice, to group up or go solo.  Group-based games usually give me no choice at all (I don't count grinding gray mobs as solo content).

I don''t really know when Humankind will die out but i''m guessing about 6 years before WOW.

    But thats sooooooooooooooooo funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

When talking about these kinds of topics, i find it best to think like the mmo creator/company.

Company : I want to make money fast, therefore im going to make an MMO that appeals to the masses, but what appeals to the masses Skoll? You sexy bunny.

Skoll : Gawd im a sexy bunny...>.>...<.<...Lets hear from the gamers themselves!

51741751 gamers : We prefer casual games! Why should we spend time on hardcore gamers, we dont all have that kind of time! We want to get to the max ourselves! Rawr rawr rawr.

80 gamers : Nooooooo, forced grouping is much funner! Why should it be easy to get to the max!?

In conclusion, the creators arent trying to design/make/create a game for you. They are designing it to appeal to the masses.

Appealing to the masses = $

Appealing to a group of people = $

I'm not tired to soloable games, but I do agree that there is too few non soloable left.

Problem is that many people have no patience to wait for groups or they just haven't enough time or  like they get annoyed by what others are doing. What I don't like, is that soloability create similarity to character classes, because they all need to be able to defeat enemies. Good example would be controller (class) in City of Heroes game. It was very hard to solo, but worked very well in teams. Nowdays after a lot of whining from solo players, controllers do a lot more damage and they controlling is weaker. They still work nice, but they starts to reminder some other classes in same game, so they lost they induvidual feeling, like been something different.

There is two dad words in games, what destroy many good team based PvE games.

    PvP balance and PvE soloability.

I just hope game designers and publishers, would start to create more targeted MMOG's for certain playing styles, than trying to get it all in one game.

Most mmorpgs are group based. Find yourself a guild that groups alot or keep asking ppl if they want to group. When i use to play eq2 most of the groups i was in were created by me because alot of other ppl just cant be bothered.

I don't play mmorpgs anymore but i don't believe it has changed that much. I don't remember eq been this glorious group game. After lvl 18 i found it very hard to find groups to get to lvl 35 till i found a guild. Without a guild it was even harder to find pugs.

Most game are still group based, but they are all also a lot more solo friedly. Means You can solo, You don't have to find group anymore.

Finding group has allways been hard, but also the tools to find groups where bad in old days. It was like brodcasting to chat, looking for team. Now days in newer games they have tools for players to find teams and tools for teams to find more players.

    Exhausted of them..................

I long for those halcyon days of classic EQ and classic SWG where the best way to be productive and successful was to travel in groups and work together helping each other and forming bonds and comraderie. When the game rewarded players for being interdependent.

Now with MMOs dragging so many of the socially inept casual players who have come from console and single player games or whose only experience has been with the current shallow crop of solo grinders there is little hope that they will revert.

It is sad but this is the time we live in.

In the old days of EQ there were a lot of annoying people too, but the differnce is you were forced into grouping with them.  Personally I love that I don't have to group with people who annoy me and I can just do my own thing.  In EQ I soloed most of my way to the max level and though it was a grind I did have fun because it was my second MMO and first of the EQish type of nature.  Some people like to socialize and some don't.  Generally I enjoy the challenge of doing things alone.  It takes less time and you don't have to worry about doing something stupid or having something stupid done to you.  There are so many drama queens in these games it's not worth it.  I just want to cruise along and enjoy the game at a casual pace.  I'm not interested in being the biggest or the best.
  • Yeah kind of.... i've never soloed in an MMO passed a starter area which may explain why i quit WoW as a lvl 54 warlock after a year and a half and as of yet never hit max level on any mmo... It seems like solo content has made it quite difficult for Casual Groupers who log on and play do a quest or 2 or something like that with a group have a bit of fun while doing it either casually joking or RPing... when no one ever seems to want to group anymore... even the hard core grouper has difficulty waiting sometimes as long as three hours to find a party(depending on game and class) it would seem most MMO companies have ignored these groups unfortunately, Grouping MMOs are few and far between now adays... I like some of your idea and that's why I'm hoping for RO2 to be released in English sooner rather than later due to the increased incentive to group they mention over and over... hopefully some next-gen games are group friendly...

if i want to play solo i go and play oblivion or tief or KOTOR 1 &2

and what i mean by soloable its not only killing stuff. its also the interaction with other players.

what hapened when you needed an armour you had to go to an armoursmith to buy it, a weapon you needed to go to a weaponsmith.

potions? alchemist... robes? tailor... if you hapen to be a tailor hey you have free robes (with the materials) but you still need staffs and swords and shields which have their respective crafters...

REMOVE the auction houses and bring back the old player to player trades, make a system where crafters can advertise their stuff, like a board, instead of making it an acution house make it a post board, where you search for (not items) but crafters...

or make the crafters have their own vendors in a rented place in a market square or their own house

SWG pre-Cu and Post NGE still have that. UO also had a similar system.

make class interdependencies and make socialisation possible.

sure keep the game where all you do is kill but at least make it so if i ever happen to have the emulator i could NOT play by myself.

i really do not like soloable game... this is how i see it

if you can play SOLO 95% of the time then a 1 man server and a 3000 man server would only be diferenciated with MORE LAG

yay i pay 15$ per month to play a game that may have server lag instead of paying 0$ per month with NO SERVER LAG

I enjoy grouping....sometimes. But if I can't find a group, or don't have alot of time to devote to a group, or feel like just exploring different areas at my leisure, I expect to be able to play the game I pay for without needing someone else's permission and/or help every damn time. Why don't I play solo games, then?

1.) Solo games are nowhere near as large in scope and content as an mmorpg.

2.) I don't need to be right by your side killing mobs in a group to enjoy talking to you while I kill mobs by myself.

3.) I like the fact that I'm not alone in the game world, even though I choose to be a loner for the most part in that world. I like the frenzy of activity around me, makes it feel like a real world.

4.) Like the real world, I don't need to be in a group of 6 people to get my stuff done during the day. But it's nice to say "Hi" as I pass you on my way.

    Same here.

I love doing small groups, but id easily pass that up for me being able to enjoy playing for those odd hours now and again.

I like games that support both but to be honest, most games favour the groups in the end. If someone wants to solo and put in the same effort as they would in group. They should be rewarded for doing so. If you dont like raids it shouldnt mean you cant get the best gear if you really put your efforts into it.

Groups are great, solo is great.

SWG once had a fine balance where you could solo all day if you wanted or get into a group and really go to town and have such a good laugh. But then buffs happended and those who didnt snub them to enjoy the challenge found they could tank anything.
