Even if LA makes another MMO I willing to bet it will just be a WOW clone or some bash and smash obtain gear type game. I don't think we would see the depth, socialization and diversity that we came to love with the original SWG.
The ONLY way i think we will get that kind of gaming experience back will be with classic SWG.
Classic SWG is our only hope.
If SOE or LA don't offer classic servers then we will have to hope that someone can offer fair, reliable servers with back up.
It would be nice if LA hosted the servers. There was a rumour awhile back that they would.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Nope it will be Just like WoW or any other EQ cloned loot based level based boring game..Remember gamers dont want to be free to do what they want..All they care about is hand held level loot and being just like everyone else..All balanced carebear loving fun..

If Lucas was to ever entertain the idea of doing another MMO, I'm sure it won't be with Sony and I would offer to you they will look in the direction of Blizzard.. WoW has a great balance of PvE and PvP play.. Classes are fun to play with a few exeptions that aren't to my liking, but others might enjoy them.. Trade skills are fun, and numerous.. I could care less about reality graphics.. I play to be entertained, not to see how REAL is looks or runs.. If I wanted reality I wouldn't log on to play a fantasy game.. DUH..
Instead of the Horde vs the Alliance, it would be Rebel vs Empire. Allow a marriage of PvE and PvP play.. DO NOT force people to PvP .. SWG can have PvP battleground, and limited public PvP.. So.. Lucas Arts, if you are listening, talk to Blizzard about Star Wars.. lol
I disagree and here is why...
1.) It is TOTALLY dependent upon who actually designs the game.
2.) WoW was a game that actually brought players into the MMO market that had never played one before because of its simplicity and instant gratification.
3.) SWG was a game that was truly ahead of its time, the market for the MMO players just wasn't there and SWG was a difficult MMO to simply buy and play, because it was deep and required so much time and comprehension.
4.) The next generation of MMO's now have a much larger playerbase to draw from thanks to WoW, but they are ready for a deeper game that requires more thought. Simple rules of statistics will tell you that if SWG was able to achieve 250K subs before the playerbase was large, a newer version should probably break into the millions, if done properly, even if it is a more complex game because the market is so much larger now.
5.) A company like Bioware (if it is KOTOR) would design a game with much deeper roleplay with their expertise. Bioware would NEVER use SWG in their name, they would use KOTOR, which has a VERY good reputation.
6.) It's all about who acutally designs it, and surely no one would touch the SWG name at this point.
Just IMO of course.
To make SWG or SWG2 like WoW is to go backwards. Its to put the training wheels back on the bicycle.
i truly believe that if that game continued the way it was (pre-cu) i would have self destructed 2 years ago from lack of sleep, getting fired, and everything else along with that.
*sigh* god i miss that game.

How so, I would love an explanation for that one..
Are we talking about the original SWG, the same game where people were explointed and ganked daily by using the TEF system? Yeah, that was fun.. People setting up houses to use them as walls to a base, where the militia and mayor can gank anyone they want? The forced PvP destroyed this game.. It was a game that was quickly exploited by a few, at the expense of others.. I for one was tired of the spam of, " I pwned you".. in open chat..
The problem was that hardcore players , normally kids loved TEF ganking for shits and giggles.. OH.. there is an Overt, lets shoot him, OOOOOOOPS, he has 19 covert buddies.. FUN.......... NOT.. Because ganking was causing people lost time and equipment due to death, chased many away from the game.. Tell me camping cloning centers wasn't happening..
SWG was a game wtih great potential.. However as the game aged, exploitations were found and customers were chased away.. You call that "pro grade"... I call that immaturity ..
Anytime a company designs a game that allows one customer to force another customer to quit, will surely be SMALL in numbers and ultimately dead.. Some people may like PvP, however to force people into PvP will surely set you up to die.. It was my experience that PvPer's DIDN'T want to fight with other PvPer's but wanted to use their PvP combat template to gank NON combat types..
OH.. btw....... WHAT IS SO PRO GRADE about doing macros? Shit.. I saw everyone macro'ing thru the game.. rather it was combat or not.. LOL
I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies; for the hardest victory is over self.

What you just said made it sound like you think PvP wasn't optional in SWG.
PvP was absolutely, 100% optional in SWG when I played in pre-CU. Anyone who would say otherwise is proof that games have to be dumbed down for the masses. Instead of: Don't join a faction, don't go overt, don't kill a faction and don't help anyone who has done any of those things, you get: "This R teh PvP Servor", "This R teh PvE Servar" and "This R teh RP Server!".
I have news for you.. a game that does NOT allow PvE play will always DIE a certain death.. SWG was set up and designed to be 80% PvP.. That is why the game became a ghost town, WHY Lucas Arts stepped in with NGE.. Why to this date NO ONE wants to touch this cancer.. What SWG should of done was made servers that were TEF and PvP free.... But they didn't and the game imploaded.. LOL The only peeps I see defending the OLD SWG are the ones that loved to exploit it.. lol You want the classic SWG back, Then promote a server with no TEF's and No Player Cities, and NO PvP unless it's done in an instances zone...... LOL
If you hated the pvp so much why did you do it?
If the doctors hated getting "ganked" for healing overt players so much why did they stay doctors and keep playing?
Obviously the fun and excitement outweighed the "zomg I got ganked my momentary inconvience will last forever".
But I guess alot of you played a different SWG then I did since Day 1.. LOL Hell, SWG couldn't even get the eating/drinking and cooking thing correct.. geeeeeeeesh.. But I'm sure you'll all tell me how perfect the artisan chef line was and how eating and drinking was bug free too
Can you imagine the game we would have today if Blizzard had bought out the game at release and kept the core ideas? Thats the game we miss.. the game it was on the rare occasion that most things worked and didnt suffer from acute SOE incompetence. Unfortunately while everything worked at least once in the life of the game it was all at different times.
SWG 2 is not going to bring back the good old days of SWG.
There was no way to unknowingly go TEF. Overt or TEF Faction members were highlighted with the faction they were.
I was a Doctor and by choice and only by choice at times took a risk to aid a faction member and temporarily get TEFed. That was the beauty of SWG. There were consequences for your actions.
How fun is a game that has no risk?
What kind a game has no risk?
SWG was all that and a bag of chips.
It was the greatest MMO there was, even with all the bugs, and being in a incomplete state.
It was actually a MMO. It had socialization as the central idea not obtaining gear like almost every other MMO out there.
It's what kept people playing with the promise that it would be fixed in completed.
However we were all lied to and the years of suscription fees and time invested .......

There is a reason the NGE came along...forum whiners like you.
No one forced you to pick a side, you could have remained neutral. But you CHOSE to ally with either Rebel or Imperial. More over, you CHOSE to shoot that stormtrooper. You CHOSE to assist an OVERT player. The TEF system was a wonderful system that allowed you to CHOOSE if you wanted to pvp or not.
In the many years I played I never experienced corpse camping or griefing that you describe. But with what you have written on this forum I'm guessing you where the type of player who would send hate tells about getting killed while TEFed, say a Master Fencer was exploiting cause he beat you with his stun baton when you were wearing full composite armor, and you have proven that you are the kind of player that ran to the forums to complain cause things werent going your way.
You are the minority, you were part of the problem, and again, people like you are the reason for the NGE.
Pre-CU definetly had its flaws. No one will argue that. But you are the one whom it seems was playing a different game from day 1

All of the professions were fun. The fact that you could pick and choose your professions, dabble in some, master others, was totally awesome. I still remember my M. Commando with Carbineer and some Pistoleer. I enjoyed it back then.
The Pre-CU had depth. The bugs and flaws couldn't take away from that. That is why people love the Pre-CU so much. Now we are left with the NGE that packs you into the same classes of everyone else. There is no more individuality like there was.
To the OP: I don't know if SOE will be able to make an SWG2 successful. I'd certainly try it to see how it turned out, but there's a bad stigma stuck to them and the SWG name now. I personally want to see what another company can do with the Star Wars IP as far as MMOs go.
NGE was in no way an improvement it was just different.. It was a LAST resort patch to save a sinking ship.. Classic SWG was a huge let down to MOST everyone that played it..
C'mon and amuse me some more of your wrongful recollections of the past.. I need a good laugh..
Numbers hadn't risen back to launch levels yet but at 250k subscriptions the game was by all measures fairly healthy.. for a niche sci fi game it was actually doing very well.
When SOE learned of WoW getting millions of subscribers they suddenly decided it wasn't good enough. The anomaly of WoW redefined "successful" for the bean counters and suddenly management decided the game was doing poorly.
In a grab for numbers like WoW has they went forth with the NGE and the result.. well.. I think we all know what happened after that.
This isnt based on opinion, personal experience or foggy memories but rather upon averaged data taken from periodic server polling with a packet sniffer and admonishments from SOE staff.
Try checking the facts before making wild assertions and ridiculing others.
