Ok fine if you want to put words in my mouth ok. Either way my point was L2 doesnt have the near the numbers of WOW or EQ2 or Lotro. And I believe that Granadao Espada will follow in the same way. It will have a mid size surge of sales upon release, and when people play it and realize that, sure its a pretty game and it makes me forget how much of a loser I am for believing in a Korean Grindfest, then the subscriptions will drop down to L2 proportions. ( Minus the bot population, so that cuts the population by 1/4 . Im exaggerating obviously )
I think Granado Espada will be another Lineage 2, full of botters with a small dedicated fanbase. I also think it is obvious that this game will do NO WHERE near the sales that WAR or AoC will do.
Reread what you just said...
If GE is another L2 then the game will have the numbers. Not really, L2 has a small fanbase compared to some of the other big named MMO's that are out. Especially since there are so many free servers you can play on without the grind. So yeah, I understood what I said and stand by it.
Thanks Lineage 2 has over 100k subscribers...lets talk about just the US for a while. you say it has a small fanbase compared to other MMO's. Aside from WoW...what other MMO's? WoW, Lotro, EQ2, and last I heard Vanguard had somewhere around 100k give or take a few. Im not sure if the pop has continued to drop though.

No. I highly doubt that Everquest 2 has a fanbase that would make Lineage 2 look small. also last news I heard Vanguard had 80k Subscribers, which is actually less then Lineage 2. Are you serious? EQ2 has over 100k, of that Im sure, I believe you about vanguard though. Someone should create a MMORPG census.

p.s.: For the ones that compained about the bot feature, this is exactly why its so damn important to play a game before judging it. This bot feature has been disabled in the North American version. The "Patrol Mode" has received a heavy 5 minutes countdown. the patrol mode is now fixed and fills its purpose. you might wonder "well why did the korean developer put it in there in the first place?" Keep in mind that Korea is an internet cafe country.
I do, thats why I threw those 4 titles out, as it turns out one of em has in and around 80k. And I would honestly be surprised if L2 had over 100k subscriptions.
Alright jackhole, listen up, don't call me out if you don't have a leg to stand on. In game elections that give REAL power to people have been in games since the guild system was implemented. So there's nothing new there.
You admit conquering zones has been done, but you say there are no benefits. Shadowbane, Asheron's Call, and EVE online would beg to differ. The first two you could take over a dungeon and squat in it, making it your guild's. In EVE you can set up an outpost in space, and claim it for your corp(guild). These games also don't throw up magic barriers so anyone is welcome to walk in and smash what you've put up unless you defend it(AC doesn't have player made structures,so it boils down to wars of attrition).
Please, don't say the "Stances" are new either. Shadowbane, WoW, any game with a D&D style warrior has these. Half of the players who have responded to this thread have said it's the same grindfest other Korean MMOs are. The other half enjoy that style of game.
Adding RTS elements to an MMO has been done too. Any game that requires harvesting pulls from RTS games nowadays. Any game with pets has RTS elements. Look at WoW, it was built from an RTS, they have "battlegrounds". The commanders in Battlefield games actually act like the main player in an RTS, telling players where to go, what to take over, and who to kill.
As for dozens of end game looks, from those videos I watched well....if you have 3 costumes for each of the 5 classes then there's 15 differenct character models. Oh yeah, and then there's the color combinations...which brings the total number character models to30-40 right? BUT THEY STILL LOOK THE SAME. Smurfs would still be smurfs if they had always been red, or green, or black, or purple, etc. different color on a suit of armor, like I said, does NOT make it look dramatically different. Not even a little bit. This game has nothing in character customization compared to, say, City of Heroes/Villains.
In Korea alone NCsofts financial accounts state that in December 2006 Lineage 2 had a monthly server access of 482,000. With 113,000 being the highest number of players online simultaneously. All this spread over 33 servers. In the same month, they also have a monthly server access of : 123,000 in Taiwan (22 servers) 113,000 in Japan (12 servers) 180,000 in China (15 servers) 105,000 in the U.S. and Europe (10 servers) and 31,000 in Thailand (5 servers).
Some of those may be free trials. Lineage 2 is a massive game.
Ahh, I wasnt thinking about the ones in Asia. So yeah Granada Espada will probably do well in Asia, but I dont think it will have the same amount of subscribers as it will in the states or europe.
Wait wheres all the huge eyed characters ... or the nearly naked characters with tons of panty shots?
so is this going to be another one of those games with 2-3 different character looks? (must be a communist thing)
has any asian game actually done well in NA? and while they may have the numbers in korea or whatever probably 90% of the player base there is money farmers. that doesnt impress me at all.

Jesus christ! Those are pretty good figures! How many players on WOW concurrently? Does anyone know?

8.5 million last I heard.
Lineage 1 plus Lineage 2 peaked at 4 million players.
i played this game, it is -extremely- boring. the 3 character system is really nice. But at the end of the day it's just another grind game, grind grind grind. Honestly it was just tedious.
and in regards to
The problem here is that people played a version Designed for the ASIAN market and judge the US version of it. K2 network has changed quite a lot to the game, and I can honnestly say its a bit improvement
It's still the same damn game. If people didn't like it before, they won't like it now. This will just be a korean game a bit westernized and thats what it will feel like to everyone who plays it.
first of all is there a way to change the movement because if not, then god is this game clunky, the graphics are all right looks like lineage 2, kind of sick of korean graphics, boring, and non life like.
What has NCsoft have to do with this game? Nothing. I doubt it even comes close to what Linage II offers, especially at release and Linage II is no gem in my eyes.
NCSoft is one of the few Korean MMO's makers that actually puts content in their games. They actual have a decent feel for what the the non asian populations like.
The point being that this is another small niche game and will remain so. Once people find out how bad K2 supports their games they won't remain long.
And after only 1 day of closed testing there is already a level 100 who got thier from level 1 and leveling up. I mean damn when I think grind, I think you can get to 100 in a day. That should be more like 1 hour to get to 100 geez.
I have been test driving the international ( IHA ) version of Sword of the new World ( Grenado Espada ) for little over a week. I`m going to be honest , this game is very well done with the exception of the lack of skin and hair customization which leads to the clone effect. If they can figure out how to deal with that , then they will be in there for sure ,but there are over 30 different characters with their own look so it kind of makes up for it , not your typical 4 character Korean mmorpg by any means.
The 3 character control is easy to utilize and allows you to have your own little team which is how most people play. There are 5 core classes and over 25 recruitable npc`s that you can play also. Plenty of dungeons and instances and quests that give different rewards. There are also missions , collections , recipes to make weapons and gear etc. There is dueling from starting levels and open pk after level 60. There is construction of different types , for example I saw some guys blasting mobs with a multiple cannon type of structure that was built by their RNPC , another guy made a safe area that had a fence you could run inside and if a mob tries to run in after you it has little blasters that shoot the mobs. You would have to see it to understand how cool it is . All things considered , there is ALOT to do in this game.
Leveling is not difficult , but you will have to grind mobs for exp. however , the mobs spawn at an incredible rate so there is never any waiting or having to run around hunting for kills. This is something I really like is the split second spawn rate , before you know it you have killed enough mobs to level. If you get tired of grinding mobs , you can do quests for exp and items . The weapons are ok , I`m not real big on games that have weapons changes every 4 levels , it`s a waste of time and revenue. There is alot of clothing , different outfits available also.
The graphics are top of the line , I would say better than EQ 2 and much better than any other Korean mmorpg. It`s not your typical Korean mmorpg at all , they spent over 50 million on the game , it has a very nice engine , the pathing is excellent and the overall gameplay , control etc. is good for a point and click. Watching a trailer is not going to give you a good impression of the game or maybe just trying the starter area`s , you need to go in and try it for yourself to see how good it is. I`m also waiting for AOC so I decided to try this out and I may just continue with it. Anyone can play the pre open beta on the international version with IHA and continue there if they want to without worrying about K2. This game won`t be able to compete with AOC combat system , but what game can? AOC is breaking new ground with their combat system so there is no comparison IMHO , but that doesen`t mean that Sword of the new world is not a good game either.
One more thing , the game has an auto attack feature that uses AI technology so alot of people leave their 3 character team AFK to grind which half the people like and half the people don`t. I personaly don`t play AFK and think that people who do are morons but the game has a nice feature called a "spinelle" which is a little gem looking item that drops rare from mobs. So what these things do is unleash a monster where ever you decide to use it , one time only. Players that are lucky enough to get their hands on these beauties are going to spawn areas full of AFK players and leaving a level 100 monster there to roam around and kill all of the AFK grind freaks lol. talk about fun .
I`m not playing the SG version , I`m playing the Philippine version which has been translated in English and is open to international users with no IP blocking planned in the future. IHA , IMC and Hanbitsoft which includes SG , Philippines , Malaysia , and Viet players. There are also many American and European players also. This is why it has been refered to as international version because it`s open to anyone who want`s to play.. If they decide to block IP`s later , which they already said they won`t do , then we will move over to the K2 American host.

And as I pointed out above, the AFK leveling is removed in sword of the New world.
There are many fights going back and forth here. I think the game will do fairly well. It already has a great fanbase out with only the closed beta. I purchased it and am looking forward to it. Its cheep, graphics are beautiful. And guys, point n click is ok. Dont think of it as a point n click MMO, think of it as kind of an online diablo kinda thing. How can they integrate wasd into a 3 man control system.
I've been playing on the Philippine server, and it's been fun. It will NOT compete with big names western MMO's. But then it doesnt need to. This game is also not Lineage2 or any other Asian game out there. I gave a first impression critique on another thread.
