This is indeed sad news for me as I am an adult gamer and I don't want to break my wrist by hitting keyboard every second. I would like to hit a key every few seconds at the max. If it requires continues keyboard usage or mouse usage, it might not be good for my health. So, I might not play this game if this news turns out to be true.

If you jump in combat there should be a major penalty. Maybe like instant death.

It all seems great on paper. "More skilled" play they say. And we go; "Horray" (heh, I'm a poet).
Anyways, a friend of mine works as a gaming journalist and got to test the game (as many others are now doing). And from what he told me he was a bit conserned over the "life" of this style of combat.

Sure it was cool and fun in the start, but so is the Nintendo Wii and its gamesytle. But to play hours like this is greatly tiresome.
They mark the game as a "mature" game, which is great. But the combat is actually arcade....something (at least in my opinion) is far from being reguarded as mature.

The way most MMOs are now, lets take WoW since it is played by most, this is more strategic. You have cooldowns etc. Meaning you need to plan and read each situation.
But AoC it more a Hack and Click  fest. Some moves had cooldowns, but these were minimal, a few seconds at most. He could pound away like a madman.
To me this sounds awful, far from what I had hoped. Jump is there, so I see "gankers" jumping all over back and fourth like a madman pounding away the strikes, just like in WOW....only I fear it will be even more so. Since in AoC you dont "lock" on your target. You need to actually get your sword to hit him/her hence people will jump around to avoud getting hit.

    Suddenly jumping is a strategy....

Personaly I was hoping "Jump" was disabiled during combat, and you would be forced to use your shield and time your attacks at your opponent....strife away from blows and counter your attacker with a sudden blow.....but no such luck....
But its still in beta, and we can hope they make changes.
Not a big fan of jumping, however, cool downs are the suck.

You dont need cool downs, you just make mana and endurance meaningfull.

Look at DAOC, awesome pvp game, no cool downs.

LOLOLOL. He said WoW takes strategy. Any primate or crappily programmed bot can hit TAB (auto-target) and hit 1-10 until something dies.

If you have watched ANY WoW PvP videos, you can see every one of them has the recorder repeatedly clicking the same buttons over and over until the cooldown is over and it executes the move again. Repeated until the 9-year-old-with-loads-of-free-time kills everyone in the immediate vicinity.

In AoC you actually chose which direction to swing and hit from as well as which direction to block from. How do you block in WoW? Oh that's right, there is no active blocking system. Yes, WoW is more strategic....

All they need to do is have jumping decrease your stanima (or whatever) or decrease your chance to hit and jumping wont be a problem.    Of course, some games, like WoW, refuse to do this, so we shouldnt take for granted that AoC will take the precautions needed to prevent people from jumping around like idiots.
