On topic I would say that AoC has certainly got me excited, there seems to be more to do, more to see, the playerbase has the potential to skyrocket via console players, a combat system that is simple yet so innovative and great lore behind it all. Innovation and variety are the things I am looking for in a new mmo and AoC looks like it will deliver both.
WAR just looks like it will bore me to easily and hasn't really innovated any core funtions of mmos to a massive degree. Either way, I am looking forward to Aion and AoC the most, having most hope in AoC, since my 360 will be able to play it no problems.

Overall i plan on throwing down a good 4 months on both Warhammer and AoC. Exactly what Warhammer has to offer and the key to its success would be solely its name. Its "not Completly" introducing anything new except with its new face. AoC has its obvious traits its bringing to the table and dont forget approx. 3-5 months after its release on PC we'll be seeing it on xbox360. Someone had mentioned the appeal and limitations to high end machines, and i think thats gonna sting compared to Warhammer numbers. Either way, i plan on getting into both because im a long time fan of both.
One thing i am excited about is the new thirst for the market. Before companies would compete for the same population or small mass of mmo folks(eq vs uo perhaps). Now with the WoW bomb, the markets so huge companies appealing to different crowds within the mmo community similer to the console genre wars. I think now atleast we are abit more free to devote more time the games we enjoy the most without worrieing about developer neglect because of lack of population or funds. Point is the markets big enough if not close to where it doesnt matter.
If I took a screenshot from WoW and placed it next to a screenshot from WAR I would automatically assume they're the same game.
lets try it.
Also WAR seems to have the same super fast random attacking methods as WoW. You select a target, get lost in a mob, unable to locate your target. Face the wrong direction from your selected target and you suddenly aren't doing anything or hitting anyone.
mythic have stated that they are going with auto face on ability usage. you hit "skill 3" and your char turns towards your target.
I can't help but remember my experiences with idiot rogues hopping in circles around you with their daggers.
mythic have also started putting in collision detection to stop this from happening.
It's an item centric, quest driven game. Based upon 2 factions (good and evil) RVR, with three races each where the 4 classes have narrowally defined roles and abilities begining in isolated lands. The animations and lore are similar. They have similar game play whitch is an auto attack with a few abilities set on rechargers and I will bet they will have similar advancement systems that basically just redress the same abilities over and over every 10 levels. Yes not every class and race is the same, but the over all design is very parallel. WAR aims to be a WOW clone (why wouldn't it WOW has been very succesful) with a better focus on PVP. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but it certainly not the same as DOAC.
1. WoW, like so many other Blizzard products has been created by stealing ideas that worked in all the other popular MMORPG's out on the market at the time of WoW design. Then crucial parts were improved and perfected, Blizzard style. They had it right on a lot of things but failed utterly in the PvP department.

3. WoW is a PvE centric game (you know people who are to scared to play other humans and prefer to compete against NPC's).
4. WAR is an evolution on the lessons learned from DAOC RvR based on the Warhammer lore using the Warhammer graphics style.
5. EA Mythic will most likely have had a close look on WoW and stolen some concepts they could use within their concept just as any other MMORPG has had a close look at it's competitors and used what they thought usefull or to be working.
6. I'm failing to see distinct design paralels.
7. Games Workshop sued Blizzard over use of their lore and looks (copyright infringment), Blizzard agreed to a undisclosed settlement out of court.
you played WAR then? didnt enjoy it i take it? you are for sure an AoC fan, you guys seem obsessed with this "click to attack" thing being == skill, which is quite funny really. its obvious you are either a troll (and a good one at that) or simply unwilling to even look at WAR. i hope you enjoy your AoC raidfest.
I haven't playedWAR. Have played warhammer...a lot. good game. The only thing I didn't like about it is they change things all the time.
I like the idea of AOC, but at this point still sceptical it they can pull it off. I never said anything about AOC being click to attack=skill

I just disagree that WAR isgoing to be like DAOC, it seems much more like WOW. WHile I didn't enjoy WOW, I have nothing against it. In fact I think it has done some good things for the industry. If you have something against WOW then that is your issue...it doesn't make me a troll.
In fact, I think a lot of people will like WAR and due to the easier design (meaning I think it more likely to be a solid game) and I think it will more likely be more successful the AOC.

I think auto attack is in now because there is nothing else, no other reasons, not because its good and not because people like it over actual control.
I really cant believe that this debate is still going on...it's beyond silly.
WoW might have a semblence with WAR if you only looked at graphical style, but that's about it. WAR is vastly different, much, much older, and like has been stated here before, Blizzard drew heavily on WAR influences while developing the Warcraft series, and WoW. That's really about all that they have in common. People keep saying that graphics dont make a game, and I'd agree, so why limit yourself to suggesting that because they might share some of the same graphical style, that they are alike?
The other part to it, is why bother comparing AoC and WAR? That's like comparing pizza to beer. Both are great, and can go well together, but they really are not all that alike.
Going to take a deep breath before I say this, but I dont feel that the PvP in WAR is meaningful TO ME. That's what the game is about, but once the captial city is taken, there is eventually a reset, and you get to do it all over again. Now, I'm not going to deny that some people will prefer that, and that it certainly CAN be meaningful, but for me, I dont find it so. I prefer what AoC offers, because I find that the siege style Guild verus Guild PvP is meaningful, there isnt a reset, if you want it, try to take it, and then keep it. Now, that could be utterly meaningless to someone else, I wont argue that.
My whole point is that everyone has their own opinion of what they like, and it doesnt make one better than the other, and while both AoC and WAR are both MMORPG's, that's about what they have in common. One is going the RvR route, which is tremendously popular, and the other is going for a GvG style of PvP which is also popular, although very different.
Myself, I've got interest in both, because I made the meaningful comment earlier, I'll explain. Just because I dont find it as meaningful, doesnt mean that I wont find it fun. I've got many friends who are into WAR, and if I'm playing with them, I'll be having fun. AoC's style for me, I think might have a more lasting value, but then again, if I'm with friends in WAR, who's to say that wont last much longer?
No right or wrong to it anyone, and I doubt any argument will persuade anyone. Just play what you enjoy, since both games differ enough to appeal to different tastes.
If I took a screenshot from WoW and placed it next to a screenshot from WAR I would automatically assume they're the same game.

LOL @ turtle mount. Is that for real? I haven't seen that before, that's absolutely hilarious. (I haven't played WoW for over 2 years)
Anyway, I suppose the auto-face-target feature would be useful for this battle system. It would be, no doubt. But overall it's still not my style of combat. It's just not for me.
After reading through all of this thread there are many posts basing Conan as being restricted customer-wise based on needing a high end PC. I am sure you all are neglecting the fact that it WILL be released on xbox 360 also, a top market console that excells at online gaming.
I think auto attack is in now because there is nothing else, no other reasons, not because its good and not because people like it over actual control.
Correct you are, and how oh-so-crappy auto-attack is at the high end. When you have auto-attack combined with +crit % gear and a high end weapon, casters really don't stand much of a chance. When you're critting in between skill swings for as much as the skill swing is hitting for... Something's broken there. I loved watching a Warrior in WoW crit my Mage perform a heroic strike for 900 damage and then immediately hit my mage for an 850 white damage crit... It was a thing of raw, unbalanced, broken beauty.
erm... are they? the animations are similar? you mean that an axe swing looks similar because both games end up with the axe traveling fast towards someone else? as for the lore? lol.
They have similar game play whitch is an auto attack with a few abilities set on rechargers
you played WAR then? didnt enjoy it i take it?

its obvious you are either a troll (and a good one at that) or simply unwilling to even look at WAR. i hope you enjoy your AoC raidfest.
I'm not going to disagree with the rest of your statements made here but:
A.) AoC does not employ a "click to attack" system, in fact, most players will more than likely be abandoning the mouse entirely during a fight. If you are intend to make arguments on this point, I'd suggest reading up on just how the system works. Hmm, come to think of it, you do manually aim all ranged attacks, so I suppose that bit is "click to attack", but somehow or another, I get the sense that you meant more of a Diablo style hackfest.
B.) It also definitely does not qualify as a "raidfest", except in the sense of attacking, burning and pillaging your enemy's stronghold, which goes under the original definition of a raid
If you are going to criticize a game, get some basic information about it correct first. And yes, that does indeed go for Bverji as well.

I can think of a few things.
It introduced the talent system. This was similiar to a skill system, but it was combined with classes to allow for more customization
It introduced ! over the NPCs head so you knew where to go for a quest and if it was in your level range. It also gave a summary for the quest that went over the points of what needed to be done.
For me if was the first MMO that had ability to jump in and jump out quickly when you wanted to play. You didn't have to spend a lot of time until endgame raiding which is optional IMO. The small instances were mostly quick and enjoyable.
PvP battlegrounds was pretty new I believe.
Experience for exploring the world
Bonus Experience for being logged out for long periods of time.
Quick travel via griffins.
Fun soloing for all classes without making them bland and boring IMO.
I'm sure there is more but thats what I can think of off hand.

DAoC has PvP battlegrounds. They are level-based, and all three factions fight over control of a central keep. Some of the best PvP experiences of my life was standing off with the Mids across a river running by the keep with about 60 other Albs. Ahh, good times. WAR better have one of these.
DAoC also has quick travel in the form of horses. But I'm actually pretty sure it was free.
I will say that WoW is probably the first MMOG to be introduced into the mainstream culture. That, no one can fault it for, either.

Actually AC2 had this first.

Nope AC2 had this first as well

Experience for exploring the world
Not sure on this one, but I am pretty sure several games had this before WoW.
Bonus Experience for being logged out for long periods of time.
Didn't AO have something like this?
Quick travel via griffins.
By griffins maybe, although i thought EQ1 had griffins, but I might be confused. AC1 had portals to quick travel around the world though,.
Fun soloing for all classes without making them bland and boring IMO.
Nope AC1 was way better for soloing then even WoW is. Plus most of my leveling was done solo on DAoC as well which also came out before WoW.
I'm sure there is more but thats what I can think of off hand.
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
The beta is really whats going to decide for me what mmorpg I want to play whether its AOC or WAR, but i'm leaning more to WAR because I used to play WH40K TT and the DOW games too.
But seriously dont call WAR a clone to WoW, WoW is a clone to pretty much every single mmorpg there is because all mmorpg pretty much follow the same guideline in a way, it wouldn't be called a mmorpg if it wasnt.
Age of Conan is PvP for adults and Warhammer is PvP for children. (lots of blood and hacked off limbs) Do you get the picture? And Age of Conan will defently have the sharpest graphics and the most interesting world of the two.
Ummm...
Warhammer is an IP, featuring more than 3 PC Games, an Pen and Paper RPG as well as a TT Game.
You probably meant WAR, but it doesn't feature PvP for children either. It's Teen rated, which means 12+, which means blood, gore, and hacked off limbs. Only restriction is: You can't actively hack of limbs and so on. You CAN however place Bodies split in half etc. in the envoirement.
Screenshots show People burning at the stake.
The first Questline for Chaos includes the ruthless slaughter of Villagers, the collection of their intestines, the placement of those intestines in huge, demon-powered Cannons, and the shooting of the Intestines towards a wizard's tower.
Not very children-friendly, eh?
Don't be fooled by the Teen rating, Worlds can be much darker, more gory and cruel than what WoW did.
The most interesting World? Let's see:
In WAR, we got living Space Mushrooms who create a magical Energy named Waaagh!!! when they pack together. We got Chaos, which mutates the Player characters, and gives them Crab Claws instead of Arms. We got Dwarfs, who place Auto-Fire Turrets on the Ground. We got Dark Elves, who drown Babies in Pools of Blood.
No, we don't have nudity, prostitution or active torture...
But I for one don't want to see hundreds of so called "matures", running around naked in Town... btw: Can you adjust "Member Length" "Pubic Hairstyle" and "Nipple Size" in AoC's Character screen? Otherwise it'd be a boring sight, when everyone runs around naked with the same Textures down there
Age of Conan is PvP for adults and Warhammer is PvP for children. (lots of blood and hacked off limbs) Do you get the picture? And Age of Conan will defently have the sharpest graphics and the most interesting world of the two.
I'm going to go out on a limb here considering neither game is in release, but I think it's very simplistic to say AOC automatically has a more interesting and in-depth world setting than Warhammer. Yes AOC might be considered more original in some ways than WAR (it doesn't have elves or orcs for example) but it's still based loosely on ancient earth history and myth. Even the name Conan is found in Celtic warrior legend.
I also remember reading an AOC developer's article talking about some of the challenges in converting the Conan IP to a game. According to this he original Conan stories by Robert E Howard were great adventure stories but not all that detailed when it came to fleshing out Conan's world (at least not as detailed as say Middle Earth). Which of course is understandable - who cares about the history or cultural practices of the Stygians when readers really want to learn how Conan outsmarts or outfights the evil Stygian wizard Thoth-Amon to gain the Sword of Incredible Abs. It seems from an outside perspective that while the AOC dev team has a great blueprint to start with, they've had to improvise quite a bit and fill in the blanks if you will.
Now compare this to WAR, which is based on an incredibly fleshed out IP. The WAR devs knew going in what settlements and cities are located in every region, what kind of heroes, weapons, and special abilities should be available to players, and what are the histories and motivating factors for each of the six main factions. I'd go as far to say that the WAR devs have almost as much source material to draw on as the LOTRO devs.
Warhammer fans recognize that a WAR MMOG will have portray a world that's just as deep, multifaceted , and "mature" as AOC's(unless you count maturity as number of nudie models in the game). Once again, I'm not trying to run down AOC and I recognize that in the end gameplay will trump background. But I'm also tired of people automatically assuming Warhammer has no real background and that the devs will be resorting to the same fly by the seat of our pants, "ok blood elves now like the Horde Yeah RLY" antics Blizzard so often pulls.

All i'm saying is from the features that have been talked about and presented to us WAR is most definately an improvement on DAoC. It is most definately not more like WoW.
Currently Playing: Everything but MMORPGs

Just play what you enjoy, since both games differ enough to appeal to different tastes.
lets try it.
mythic have stated that they are going with auto face on ability usage. you hit "skill 3" and your char turns towards your target.
mythic have also started putting in collision detection to stop this from happening.
I am sure you all are neglecting the fact that it WILL be released on xbox 360 also, a top market console that excells at online gaming.
you are for sure an AoC fan, you guys seem obsessed with this "click to attack" thing being == skill, which is quite funny really.
its obvious you are either a troll (and a good one at that) or simply unwilling to even look at WAR. i hope you enjoy your AoC raidfest.

All released info is subject to change and it isnt much.
Alot of speculations here and its too early to form an opinion on each.
Also u got plenty of time to do some research and form your own opinion.
I would ignore posts like "THIS WILL BE BETER cause i like it and Im right."
I haven't playedWAR. Have played warhammer...a lot. good game. The only thing I didn't like about it is they change things all the time.
I like the idea of AOC, but at this point still sceptical it they can pull it off. I never said anything about AOC being click to attack=skill
I have looked at war because i am a fan of warhammer and warhammer 40k. read up on it very extensivly. Just because I don't see things the way you do doens't make me a troll.
If you have read the features of WAR and still think it's more like WoW and your also considering the fact that DAoC was released before WoW then.. well.. I just think that's crazy.

It introduced ! over the NPCs head so you knew where to go for a quest and if it was in your level range. It also gave a summary for the quest that went over the points of what needed to be done.

Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
I am tired of playing games where teens rule out, with no blood, and overly cartoony characters. I want blood, guts, and Hyboria!

(lots of blood and hacked off limbs)
Do you get the picture?
And Age of Conan will defently have the sharpest graphics and the most interesting world of the two.
Otherwise it'd be a boring sight, when everyone runs around naked with the same Textures down there
I'm going to go out on a limb here considering neither game is in release, but I think it's very simplistic to say AOC automatically has a more interesting and in-depth world setting than Warhammer.
