There will not be any main healers, they do not want healers to be spectators of battle. They want them to participate. This is why most heals in the game are heal over time spells, and not instant cast heals. There are no feats that increase healing or anything like that so that "healers" are not forced so put feats a certain way. This makes me believe that all the healers will have pluses and minuses when it comes to heals. One may be better at AOE healing, one may be better at cone healing, ect. Note that the AOE heals have a cooldown on the person it was cast on , they can only be hit with that persons AOE heal once a minute.
This will allow the healers to cast a quick heal, and jump back into the fast paced battle, as intended. Hope I answered your question.
And Jason, why bother posting here knowing all well that you will only get four or five people asking honest questions and then you will get the rest of the board trolling? lol . I respect your courage!
First off, like what has been said before; Thanks a lot for joining these forums and wanting to answer our questions (and doing this quite fast <_<)! Props for ya :P
I have a few questions group play wise/class wise:
1. Say I'm in a regular group, youve got a healer, a tank, a mage and a rogue like player (For example, a Reaver). How will ''aggro'' work? Whoever does most damage gets all the threat, or do tanks have certain special ability's that draw more aggro than say the mage's spells' or the rogue's stabs? (for example, Taunting and sunder armor in WoW).
2. As an ex wow-player, and a melee lover in general I would like to know how you are going to try to balance raid encounters to make melee'ers wanted as much as ranged DPS'ers. Mages are usually standing in the back away from any AoE effect a boss can have so they dont get hit by it, but rogue's do. Is there a bigger risk vs. reward for the rogues here? My apoligies if I'm thinking too much along the lines of a WoW-boss encounter, or do you have a completely different encounter system in AoC?
3. This might actually be the first game in which I'de be interested to roll a spellcasting class (Lich or Mage seem quite interesting), this is particully because I know I won't be standing in the back smashing a few buttons to throw an ice bolt on Boss #34621, because of Spellweaving. While I've seen quite a lot of movies about AoC in which melee'ers attack a mob, I would like to know how the spellweaving system works. Do you click say 2 spells, you ''weave'' them together making certain movements with your mouse and keyboard or is it just pressing two buttons and hoping for the best?
To sum it up; Does the combo system (having to make certain movements before being able to execute a hit/skill) apply to casting a spell aswell :P
4. If a player dies from Soul Corruption due to Spellweaving in a raid, will he still have to do the quest to reclaim his soul? I can imagine this being quite tedious as the players that just survived an encounter will have to wait for whoever got corrupted.
5. Do you have any plans to prevent a system like DKP in WoW (DKP is basically a raid attendancy point system in WoW. If you attend a raid you get say 10 points, and if an item drops you can use you bid DKP points to get it. This way, whoever has more attendancy gets the item that drops first) to being implemented in AoC? Because the main reason I quit WoW was because of this; I basically HAD to attend every raid in order to get some drops, otherwise it would take another month before I got ''X'' imba item and then the rest of my guid would be in a higher raid dungeon >_<
I realise I made a lot of reference to WoW, but this is because I got to know raids through this game. I know AoC is supposed to be a lot different from all the games available, but I just don't see some things to be able to be different (DKP for example). Then again, you have proven me wrong on the PvP vs. PvE item stuff, so I'm hoping for the best here

Understand I am not Jason Stone, or have any ties to FC or AoC other than wanting to play. I will answer your questions to the best of my knowledge.
1) There are taunt-like abilities but damage will always play a role in who a mob goes after. Healers will likely not have to worry about healer aggro because heals are for the most part, heal over time spells, on cooldown so they can not be spammed. This forces players to participate in battle rather than be a spectator. The aggro mechanic is subject to change during beta.
2) Their raids will be different than that of WoW raids. They have stated that there will be raids that have "gimics" to them but for the most part it is Conan-esque to just have "tank and spank" methods. Again this is subject to change during beta testing.
3) For spellweaving information I would refer to a post Jason Stone made that linked two videos called "Parte I" and "Parte II". While it isn't as detailed as you would like there is some interesting stuff on spellweaving, and at the end of one of them they state a group of casters can get together and summon the devil from the depths of hell. You have to understand if they haven't talked about it on the official forums just yet, they likely don't have permission to talk about it here. But then again, this event coming up next week may have all the answers we are looking for.
4) If a player dies from soul corruption they likely get sent to the "hell" they talk about whenever soul corruption talks come up. My suggestion is when you become soul corrupted and your stats lower, or you get a debuff, stop casting because it doesn't affect just you, it affects your whole group like you said. Hell is supposed to be an instance like place where you fight your way out. But remember, you do not always die from soul corruption. Also, I would imagine there will be some res spells here and there. It is an mmorpg after all.
5) DKP system would be completely up to your guild and I know this is exactly what Jason would tell you. While raids in WoW sometimes take a week to complete, which is why they have DKP, raids in AoC take just a couple of hours. I would not worry about your guild using dkp much unless you are a raid only guild as raiding is just but one of many ways to obtain good gear. Crafting gives great gear as well and you can get crafting materials out in the wild on your own, or if you are in a PvP guild, you get special resources for crafting if your guild owns a battlekeep.
I understand your WoW raid concern as that is a heavy raid style of game, and I played it myself. The thing though is, the raids in this are shorter and WoW started with 40 man raids, while this game starts with 24. So not only do you clear raids faster, but you can do them more and more because you only need a small amount of people.
These were good questions though and feel free to keep them coming.
Awesome whitedelight, thanks for answering my questions, even tho you aren't an official dev this helped me clarify AoC a bit. Could you post the link to the spellweaving movies? I can't seem to find them -_-;;
I personally think its awesome that healers get to do battle, I just hope they won't be extremely gimped in it (tho obviously not as powerful as a rogue or mage since...well they can heal lol). I guess I just have an aesthetic question left; In the movies I saw a lot of melee'ers wearing ''roman'' like armor. This style really doesn't suit me but I assumed it was low level. Will the higher level armor (for example for a tank) be all that buffed up spikey plate goodness? Because I really dont look forward to running around in iron shorts >_>

Hmm I understand that the raids are shorter, which is definetly a good thing in my opinion (I also hope there's less mindless trash mobs and more intruiging boss fights in a raid instance), but I do plan on playing this game mainly for PvE, especially raiding and instances. I realise getting good gear won't require raiding, but it is what makes a game fun for me, trying to tackle a boss with special tactics with 20+ people really gives me a nice ''groupwork'' feel. I am just afraid that it will turn into another ''You gotta be hardcore to get raidgear'' type of thing.

1) We have not seen all of the armors but you will not see the super flashy armor styles from World of Warcraft if that is what you are asking.
2) I don't think you will have to be hardcore to get raid gear. It also depends on the type of guild you get into. I know this seems like a horrible plug but while there are many guilds out there I would suggest taking a look at mine in my sig. We are both a PVE and PvP guild with hopes of owning both PVE Player cities and a PvP Battle Keep. We will complete raid content, already talks of if we think we could possibly try it before the suggested levels, and we will complete pvp content. We want to be an all around guild. We will be raiding all the time, PVE and PVP.
3) Couldn't find the videos?
Part 1 is here http://www.gametribes.tv/index.html?movie=BCK00020#top 8 minutes and 50 seconds in he starts talking about spellweaving but I would suggest watching the whole movie as it shows you scenary videos and other styles of armors you may have not seen just yet.
Cheers for the links mate. Too bad I can't seem to find out how it will exactly be (i.e me sitting behind my computer and performing a spell weave; what now? what movements do I make to get the weave going? That sorta stuff) but it was quite informative, heard some new things also so thanks.
Tho I appreciate the ''offer'' (for a lack of better words) I'm not going to look into a guild until the game actually hits the shelves lol. That, and I have a large group of friends who I know personally or from WoW who will be joining me in one of the new upcoming games. Only competition to AoC at the moment for me, is Aion, but I'm afraid that's going to be too PvP centered for my tastes >_>

Not a problem and I am glad I could be some help. And yes, Aion is pvp , pvp, and pvp , lol.
While in the BorderKingdoms and open PvP areas you cannot attack your group or your guild, in the mini game areas it is team based so you could square off against guild mates.
All healers heal the same "heal per second" to make all of them equally viable.
You dont have to farm two sets of gear PvE and PvP but PvP items will be available letting you have more powerful items just for PvP which lessens the reliance on PvE raiding etc for aquiring loot for PvP.
"Shields" are adjusting your defenses directionally. This is an active component similar to the shield switching in tie fighter forward, aft, side to side etc.

Current min and max guild size? I heard 75 somewhere, is this correct?
Can you tax commerce in your guild city and are players not in the guild allowed to open up shops if permitted by the guild leaders? Thinkin SwG here, prob a bit far fetched but a function I enjoyed nevertheless.
When you enter the arena, can you "create" instanced matches ala CoH or is it like a small open PvP area? How many players would be able to enter a match if that´s the case? I understand that this might be a bit specific but I´m asking it cause of internal guild practice reasons.
I know you won´t be able to answer this one Will the game be available for a digital download? Reason for me asking, we are a global guild and some of our european members worry that they´ll have to buy the game from the States and wait til the box arrives to be able to join us on a US server.
I read somewhere that a siege might take around 4 hours. Confirmed or is it closer to 2 hours?

It takes a minimum of 110 non alt members to get the maximum benifits from said member's prestige classes. That and other information leads me at least to confidently say that max guild size is much larger than 75.

Yes, and unknown respectively.

Actually, believe it or not, I can The answer is yes. In fact, Funcom has expessed their intent to (after AoC) only make games available over a download rather than in store.
I read somewhere that a siege might take around 4 hours. Confirmed or is it closer to 2 hours?
The attack window for some PvP objectives was 3 hours. I am not 100% certain that this applies to all of the siege objectives in the borderlands, including battlekeeps.
Good luck in your future endeavors, and I hope Athelan is able to answer the questions I wasn't.

Ok, here´s some questions frmo the guild. I understand that you can´t answer all of these questions and also that some of the answers can be found in other places but here goes:
if there is a bounty system will players be able to participate? And if so is there a reward?
If you are going to add the sex buff will this have a big impact on the character?
Will there be big events that will happen from time to time, like a NPC city getting raided by NPC mobs in non-pvp area?
If I buy a copy of the Eu verson will I be able to play on the US servers?
Is there some sort of gambling in the game?
Anarchy Online was a bit of a "Numbers" game where players were allowed to equip items that were WAY out of their league as long as their stats were "buffed" enough to initially equip them even after the buffs had wore. Is AOC going to be like this as well or is there a better equipment system in place to make things more balanced?
Will there be a nude filter?
Are scorpions the only 1 point pets that necromancer can have?
Will we be able to change weapons/armor during combat?
Can we hack off arms/legs, or only heads?
Is there any knock back effect if you are hit by siege missiles?
Can spellcasters cast off the mounts back? If not, is their melee damage equivalent to that of a real melee class? If not, what makes mounted combat attractive for spellcasters?
Will guildmembers be able to equip guild items, like a cloak with guildcolor/logo or a logo of the guild on the shield or something alike?
Will we be able to dye our armor? (like black, green, brown for heavy and more colorful options for cloth)
Will there be any kind of robbery possible in PVP areas? Like pickpocketing at own risk for a few golds from someones backpocket or some thievery alike.
Wont rangers in groups of 6 be incredibly ontouchably powerful against anything?
Thanks,

Anyways, thanks for answering some of the questions, good stuff.
Here´s a question still hovering in m mind;
Will you be able to team-duel in the arenas or elsewhere? This is regarding in-guild practices and tournaments.
Thank you,

While in the BorderKingdoms and open PvP areas you cannot attack your group or your guild, in the mini game areas it is team based so you could square off against guild mates.
All healers heal the same "heal per second" to make all of them equally viable.
You dont have to farm two sets of gear PvE and PvP but PvP items will be available letting you have more powerful items just for PvP which lessens the reliance on PvE raiding etc for aquiring loot for PvP.
"Shields" are adjusting your defenses directionally. This is an active component similar to the shield switching in tie fighter forward, aft, side to side etc.

Ok here´s a few more:
Thanks again,
Lexion

It takes a minimum of 110 non alt members to get the maximum benifits from said member's prestige classes. That and other information leads me at least to confidently say that max guild size is much larger than 75.

Yes, and unknown respectively.

Actually, believe it or not, I can The answer is yes. In fact, Funcom has expessed their intent to (after AoC) only make games available over a download rather than in store.

The attack window for some PvP objectives was 3 hours. I am not 100% certain that this applies to all of the siege objectives in the borderlands, including battlekeeps.
Good luck in your future endeavors, and I hope Athelan is able to answer the questions I wasn't.
No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Aight, thanks. Good to see the Acolytes still going strong. What´s your current roster size?

We talked about the ability to have player villages made sort of public but I am not sure what form that will take.
