Im pretty sure most of you buy now notice a recurring theme on the forums, not just here, but all over tha place about how WOW is "watered down"...."E-Z Mode"...."User friendly"....etc... etc....the list of accusations goes on and on...
People that play EVE for example (one of the most boring games out there imo) might as well be calling you fat or ugly the way they will criticize you for even considering playing WOW. But its not just EVE, its any of those supposedly "hardcore" games where they have a small loyal following and are obviously jealous of WOW.
My only question is what in the world is wrong with having fun and excitement in a game? Isnt that what its supposed to be? Why are you so jealous of millions and millions of people agreeing that WOW is actually..dare i say it...."FUN" ?!?!
If you like a game to be bland, no content, unmeaningful PVP, small community, and to basically be a mortar for your cause....then fine! do what makes you happy...but at least admit that WOW is an extremely well designed, fun game. When you defend "your" game by bashing WOW it only makes you look stupid and further isolates you from the rest of the free world.

And the "content" you praise so highly is nothing more then grinding in the same instances forever hoping the loot table god smiles at you. But let's not forget faction grinding! That's my idea of content. Turning 10,000 dingleberries hoping some town will like me better.
Yay for "quests" : http://www.mmorpg.com/blogs/Paragus1/062007/20_Rant-Quests
That being said, it is a very polished game that is great to newcomers of the genre. But a lot of the flack it receives by veteran MMO gamers, who favor this site, is justified. It probably bothers me more that other games try to out-WoW Wow. It is what it is.

My guild downed Grull for the first time last night (4 weeks of trying), a huge cheer went over vent and I got that adrenalin rush thats I have never got with EQ1 or Guildwars.
I agree WoW is a very easy fun game. Sadly the fun disappears all to fast and the routine becomes stale. At least to me. I did stay close to 6 months in the game. More for the guild than the game. Was boring after taking a few characters to level 70. Not much to do except wait around for a raid and being forced to have too many fools and idiots in the group to really enjoy it.
Finally I had to say goodbye to friends. I sold everything I had or gifted it to guild members, sent the next in line guild person a few thousand gold, deleted the characters and then removed the program from the ol puter and threw the game discs in the garbage. I had to do that as even my 7 year old son said dad this is boring can we get a new game?

Gamers are looking for the game that lasts foever. The Holy Grail of MMORPG that has it all. W.O.W is a good game but it isnt the Grail by a long shot. Playing a game past the point of it being fun ruins it for them and I guess they feel the need to strike back"or maybe just warn others it isnt the Grail?".
None of the games out today are the Grail. So we look to the next set of games to come out. Those too will fall short once we play them to the point where they are old and stale.
The Grail will not ever be found,it;s just not possible.
As far as the W.O.W. bashing goes its just human nature. If Pong the MMORPG had 50 million subs and beat your current favorit game in almost every way, you to might wonder at the dunderheads playing it and try to shine the light of your views into there eyes to awake them from the braindeath you think the must be in.
Or maybe not. Maybe you are the type to live and let live and not mind others having so much fun and a game doing so well that you see little merit in. Maybe you are even happy for them and wish them well. That is NOT a normal gamer reaction.
I really liked WOW when I first started playing. The endless end game raiding and rep grind were just too much for me. This is what I think of WOW now, “game to be bland, no content, unmeaningful PVP”
But back to the question, hey if you are having fun and you like the game then why does it bother you what people say about it. Play, have fun!!!

I really loved the way you described wow tho in the last paragraph tho
I think there will always be people who shun anything that is popular and accessible. Not that this is always a bad thing--especially when it comes to issues that impact us socially and politically, be it art, culture, religion, etc. The status quo should always be challenged. But on a more realistic level, we are talking about GAMES here. They SHOULD be fun and accessible. But it's just human nature to get all nostalgic about "how much better things were in the good old days" and "how the kids nowadays have it easy and have no respect."
I think a small portion of people who criticize WoW are looking for too deep a gratification in an MMORPG experience. They want an alternative life to lead through their computer screen. This is definitely part of the escapist appeal of MMORPGs, but I think this also leads to people taking their gaming way too seriously. Yes, it might suck (if you don't like WoW) that it has become the industry standard to a certain degree, but there are a plethora of other options out there.
Not that WoW certainly doesn't have it's faults. I quit after a year and a half because things just got monotonous and I felt BC didn't hold anything new and exciting enough for me to continue my subscription. But damn, no game has ever held my attention for that long, so I definitely give Blizzard credit. People who attack WoW (or any other game for that matter) with such venom just need to lighten up and perhaps switch gears to focus on things they DO like rather than worrying so much about the things they don't.

Well done you win at nothing. The typical view here that you are right and everyone else is wrong, WoW is a good game, im sure you think game si hate are good but i dont go aroudn bashing them every chance i get. Most people on these forums are rabid fanboys of one single game and will totally disregard everything else, one of the many reasons the ratings are totally goosed.

I have to admit i couldnt resist that post he left himself wide open to it after all. Truth is my views lean more towards what poster 12 posted about this debate as in in the end it doesant matter as it is only a game and as long as people enjoy it then thats fine. After all you dont see me flame Mongolian cooking just because i dont like most of it [We have a mongolian resteraunt here which is interesting but i hate Yuka chips ].
So I left when the fun was gone.....

The unnofficial industry standard and it seems to me the ones that view it such are often those whom only started gaming recently. People forget that online gaming was around 7 years before WoW.I think there will always be people who shun anything that is popular and accessible. Why are you guys still discussing? Lucifrank just ended this thread, mates.
You just described WoW as the way I see it except the large player base but they are spread over hundreds of servers making EvE per server players extremely higher than WoW. I mean what is the point of having those millions of players if they are spread out all over those servers? And most of those players are packed in instances which leaves the immersive world rather bleak and empty except for 1 or 2 major cities. Meaningful PvP in an MMO is non-instanced, objective based. WoW PvP is just another means to an end which is gear grinding. It has lots of content...but it is redundant content. Different faction, same grind. Those features are what make it bland. But if you like then play it.

I'm pretty sure its a conspiracy by the religious right in the USA to reintroduce a sort of mental mortifiction of the flesh subliminally causing people to do penance for their sins. Thus bring the current generation closer to God. Frankly its brilliant.
