For me, WoW was only fun when it was new and fresh.  My first character, getting it to 60.  That was it.  I did manage to get a second character to 60 but actually doing anything a second time is just nothing more than grinding quests.  You've done it before, nothing has changed, you just do it again.  Getting to 60 doesn't really take all that long anyway, no class is particularly challenging or rewarding to level.

It was fun, but it gets boring VERY quickly.  LoTRO, while I have not gotten a maxed character at all yet, already feels like I'm grinding quests.  This entire system is boring the crap out of me and party dynamics are minimal so it's boring to farm mobs for exp and boring to run around to do quests.

While many may disagree, FF11 is the only MMO that has not gotten me bored with how you gain levels.  People may call it 'grinding mobs'.  But, actually, it's very fun and the party dynamics are excellent.  The way partying is done in that game is so exciting and the community is amazing.  Leveling up different types of jobs will allow you to do certain things that you may not be able to ever do with another job.  While every job generally starts out exactly the same from levels 1-10, after that the game always really takes off.

All the quest grinding is just not for me anymore, it was fun the first time through but that got old really fast.  One of the reasons I just resubscribed to FF11 for the third time (I quit twice before to try out new games and it's the only MMO I end up going back to when I'm spent on the other games)

PVP in WoW is meaningless to me.  I believe it's meaningless as a whole at that.

People that play EVE for example (one of the most boring games out there imo) might as well be calling you fat or ugly the way they will criticize you for even considering playing WOW.  But its not just EVE, its any of those supposedly "hardcore" games where they have a small loyal following and are obviously jealous of WOW.
My only question is what in the world is wrong with having fun and excitement in a game?  Isnt that what its supposed to be? Why are you so jealous of millions and millions of people agreeing that WOW is actually..dare i say it...."FUN" ?!?!
If you like a game to be bland, no content, unmeaningful PVP, small community, and to basically be a mortar for your cause....then fine!  do what makes you happy...but at least admit that WOW is an extremely well designed, fun game. When you defend "your" game by bashing WOW it only makes you look stupid and further isolates you from the rest of the free world.
Bland ? every quest in wow is the same thing, all the gear is rehashed images, all the places in wow look the same, bar outland and even that is rehashed textures, if you want bland wow is your game.

Unmeaning full pvp, lol m8 dont mention PvP and wow in the same sentance it just makes your argument mute, since wow pvp is the worst in any mmo to date. even lord of the rings mvp is better than wows pvp and thats just bad...

small community? 2k people per server where most are in instances, half the realms are dead, isn't small, lol

extreamly well designed? yeah right, fix all the bugs, and balance every class, have the ai actually be challenging, etc and you can say wow is exceptionally well designed.

Fun game?, i agree that leveling is fun, rest of the game is a boring grind. Out door pvp is fun when it happens every blue moon, and ever other leap year. WoW is just another mmo that is used as a time filler till other games come out now. They have taken a game that had huge potential, and slowly made it worse.

Amazing no mmo can surpass wow, if that isn't a sign of the mmo industry being a joke atm nothing is.

Those people bashing wow who haven't played to 70 though can stfu, since you haven't got a clue, noone cares if you played the free trial to level 20.. and especially the ones that haven't even played the game.

I have a 70 hunter, 63 rogue, 70 warrior, 54 warrior, 64 druid which i raided every pre tbc instance on, and a 70 mage, so i atleast i can state why the game sucks at the moment ...

Its all about different games. You can play fun games one moment, and the next you may play more serious games. Neither is better than the other except arguably the fun games are likely to be more accessible. I found WoW fun for a while myself but going on later levels it dwindled as the game seemed perhaps to change esp. towards the later levels with more serious gaming like raiding. Although it did have battlegrounds that I found fun and a later addition of arenas. I think it could have done with a bit more of that fun factor- I don't know if BC added more of that or not.

That sounds like a fun 4 weeks of 5-60 people standing around waiting for afkers or listening to officers talk shit.

Well, at least there was a happy ending, and you finally killed him.  Now go do it again 30 times until someone throws you a bone and gives you one of the boss drops.

    WoW:
Fun- Depends on who you talk to. I played it for 4 months, when I capped out then started 5 more characters and lasted to 14 months, finally admitting a WoW future would be in dungeon crawling so I took a permanent break.
Meaningless PVP- Depends on who you talk to. If you like arena play, this is it just like UT or Myth!
The most popular?- without a doubt! Should we belittle the masses? I say let them have fun dude!
The best?- currently, maybe. However I'm looking for a dynamic world in a fantasy setting if that is possible.

I also played 18 months of Planetside- mucho fun before I burned out... To each his own, ya know? image

    -----------------------
    Past MMOs- Planetside, WoW.
    Current MMO:
    Current Games: L4D, Skyrim
    Tried- ATITD, EQ2, SoR, Vanguard,SL,LOTRO,SotNW,SWTOR.
    Anticipating- GW2, Planetside2

I think it's a matter of distinction. The harder and more inaccessible something is, the more distinction and reward there is for those few who do "get it". I had this argument on another board in regards to Joyce and Ulysses. I thought the story, and the book that contains it, were terrible (and yes, I did understand it) but others argue that its a work of genius and (compared to say Harry Potter and the like) is what literature should be. I never understood it. Reading Joyce is never enjoyable. And you can say that for all sorts of media. Movies, art, music.

But that's the point. There's a measure of social status and "cool" factor associated with playing something that isn't "mainstream" (BOO!). And the more people enjoy a product the less enjoyable it becomes for those who wanted to separate themselves from the masses. I'm sure that if EVE ever picked up the kind of numbers that WOW does, you'd have a flood of people on these boards complaining that the game sucks, and the community is crap, and its filled with n00bz.

I need to understand the concept of comparing FUN and WOW in the same sentence.

Sorry but no challenge, easy game if you can call it that and as far as fun goes well.

No challenge/ No Depth/ No fun --- sorry but if you value you time so little or yourself,  then go ahead. It's nice to see the makers of the game reaping the rewards from the i'll educated Majority.

I prefer to play games with intelects and minds

But its not just EVE, its any of those supposedly "hardcore" games where they have a small loyal following and are obviously jealous of WOW.

Is that line serious or is it just a Troll... UHm I'm jealous I don't have shares in Blizzard, jealous of WOW,  jealous of WOW nah it really doesn't have a ring to it.

Sadly you probably picked the one game that won't fall into that category... EVE is for people who like longevity and hardship who are a little sadistic.

EVE is genuinley big , cooperative and can loose thousands of players without even noticing them .... It is genuinley a case of "the more the better with EVE"

    aight, here's my two-cents

WoW - in OB it was amazingly fun, despite the fact that i wasn't dedicated enough and only got my char to lvl 20...in full release, i played for a year and then quit, all the while having my highest char at lvl 13, i kept rerolling all my other ones by lvl 5 b/c i got really bored really easy...then 2 months ago, i got Burning Crusade and re-subbed for a 3 month subscription, i still have a month left but the other day i cancelled it and uninstalled it with my highest char being lvl 14...i did get a Draenei to lvl 7 but it was boring as hell to bring myself to get past lvl 4, seeing as nothing had changed in the least (except the player base got way less mature)

then just yesterday, i moved back to EQ1 (i used to play the mac version but it wasn't quite as fun w/o all the people) right now i have a lvl 5 Froglok pally and i'm still in the tut area grinding, yes but i know there's a big world full of content waiting for me once i leave the tut zone (i asked and they said it's recommend to stay in the tut zone until about lvl 10, but i'm also playing on a Progression server) i'm nowhere near bored yet unlike WoW where i rerolled chars every time i reached lvl 4 or 5

    that's my input

    matt, out!
