This game for sure does not have real time dodging unless this FAQ is wrong
"2.9 Will there be dodging or blocking in the game?
There is dodging, yes, but you don’t actually hit a dodge or block button to prevent strikes from hitting you. These are character skills and whether or not you avoid hits are determined from calculations going on in the background. You will be able to step back though, and use the terrain to your advantage by running behind things and so on. It is very dynamic."

i also want to know about this new combat system. if you swing your weapon at someone does it do calculation stuff to see if you hit them or if you see it touch the guy you hit them. if you touch the guy and its a hit can you do dodging moves to avoid bein hit like rolls or somthin?
Both things have to happen, if your weapon hits it will hit unless the target dodges or otherwise blocks it. If they move out of the way the attack can also miss. You would be more likely to hit them and fail to hurt them than simple see miss miss miss if you trying to hit someone and your sword was indeed on target.
and then:

We have movement in combat to move to the side and with the cone targeting this does work to your advantage. If you double tap a direction in combat youll make a quick leap in that direction allowing you to change positions rapidly or strafe more slowly.
so from the way i understand it, there isn't a dodge button per se, but you can move out of the way of the attack and you'll be less likely to be hit...and you can do a quick leap out of the way of the attack also....hmm that sounds a little like dodging to me.

Underhyped? All I hear about is AoC lately. I couldn't care less about the game, and I see it mentioned no less then 100 times a day here. That's not enough for you?

He wants AoC to beat Warhammer in the ratings, thats all.

If it had dodging that would change somethings. like real dodging that allows player skill to factor into combat.
In otherwise NO. Exept as a random equation thats automatically taken into account in battle ther is no Dodging in this game.
I think that instead of calling it Dodging it should be called Automatic Dodging which is closer to the truth it seems.
Like most things in the faq these days, the above quote is outdated. For the most part it is correct, but there are active dodging maneuvers, mainly sidesteps and rolls.

I'll promote if they promise me a larger map than any other game out there. Yes, I like approximate to true scale, and why? Because I don't want to be able to magically run from one side of it to the other within 30 minutes to an hour. Or even two hours. I want it to be big and full of weird and scarey stuff to explore too, considering the genre (Hmmm it has a stuck of that Cthulhu Mythos in there, hehe). I really hate that theme park scale every other MMO uses anymore. If Funcom does that for AoC, then I'll be happy to oblige the offer of my sanction to it.
hm, it appears the AoC vets have debunked me lol. If they factor in player skill then it will be a very interesting game indeed. I thank you guys for the polite corrections
I need to learn to just keep my mouth shut in regards to AoC they are constantly in a state of development

Exploration and bizzare interesting landmarks are a big + for me also!

You check PM's or are you ignoring me until I improve your Magic card?
On topic, respect is earned and nothing yet released or on the horizon in the MMORPG genre deserves respect on the merit of creative, expansive, or player centric concepts.
Wow yall are a bunch of Uninformed Cynicals aren't ya?
For one.
End game is built for Raiding. but not on the scale mentioned here. Were talking 500 People per side battles. EPIC BATTLES.
Two. Plenty of information on the main site about the in game stuff. Yes not ALL, but they're not done banging out the bugs yet. Hence the beta testing. THey HAVE listed all the info that concrete aspects of the game.
I'm not arguing Hype rating, i could care less. I'm playing regardless what a bunch of people i don't know say or think. Cause truth be told, "I Don't Care." But don't be flaming a game because of what you "Think". cause just like your BumHole....it all stinks...

Does anyone actually think that there wont be any perfomance issues with 500 people fighting in the same area? I dont know a game out right now that can handle that amount of people fighting in one place. Not even Eve can handle that and they are have all the time in the world to tweek and fine tune there server.
So I really believe that 500 people is a really big number to throw around with nothing to go off of.
I personally can't get excited about a game put out by Funcom after what I experienced when playing Anarchy Online both at release and within the past month. I'm hoping AoC is successful. It will be nice to see some new attempts at changing how the MMO Genre plays. However, given my experience with Funcom in dealing with AO, I have to reserve judgment on the game until it's been released. So until it's gone retail and we see how the game actually functions, I won't get excited about it.

AoC is twitch based yes? I mean, we may a BIT pessimistic, but stating your game will handle 10+ times the amount of players in one area as any current game isn't just fanboism, its "drink the purple Koo-aid" cultboism,

This game is going to be a ganking / griefing / raping fest. Please hype it so all the ganking / griefing / rapists go and play this and leave the rest of us in peace.

Actually, Anarchy Online, Funcom's last MMO, has on multiple occaisions handled about 400-500 characters on screen. So, only about 2 times the amount
No, the above did not occur in the abscence of extreme performance drops, the point is a 6 year old engine was capable of handling it.
However: There hasn't been anything to indicate battles will be that big. Devs are hinting at 150-200 a side battles, which is still mind bogglingly huge, but much more achievable.

Actually, I do hope some people try that. That way I can laugh my ass off at them getting their butts whooped by an NPC bounty hunter squad that hauls them away to slave away in "jail" . When the devs said that pretty much all quests would be dynamic and interesting, apparently the exceptions were being saved for gankers.

well here's some other things to consider also, taken from posts by Athelan--Jason Stone, Age of Conan dev, from this thread on the MMORPG.com site:

That pretty much did it for me. If I find out the game isn't designed for Xbox controllers I'll give it another look. Until then, on to WAR.
Davvin has a good point I guess we'll see
