I recently got an Xbox 360. It is awesome. It is far better than I even imagined it would be. I also play Xbox 360 Live, and I am starting to enjoy this online gaming more than the MMORPGs; although I like Vanguard's depth.
Any thoughts on an Xbox 360 Live MMO?
Comments
Would have to be an MMO already in development, like "marvel universe online" which is scheduled for the 360, next year sometime.
I doubt they'd start making one now especially for it, if the MMO was specifically designed for a PC without any thought of future console releases.
Microsoft learned from the "True Live Fantasy Online" fiasco about how difficult dealing with MMO developers can be. Although they did bring FFXI on to the 360 but that was mostly because FFXI had been created from the outset with a PS2 port in mind.
Converting that to the 360 was a piece of cake without the need of a lengthy wait.
You will see new MMOs on the 360 though, but you just gotta be patient, luckily there are some really good games coming out for the 360 in Q4 of this year. So the wait won't seem "too" bad
Xbox 360 is really great. I actually cannot believe how good it is. I think it could replace gaming on the PC....
It's difficult to find, but FFXI is already out for the 360. Funcom is doing Age of Conan and Secret World for 360. Huxley (MMOFPS not RPG) too, and someone mentioned Marvel Universe Online already. It's happening, just be patient.
NICE!
Thank you for the information. I just got Xbox 360 days ago and just got Live. I think it is a serious competitor to PC MMOs.

I was about to cite FFXI to him, but he did say "Xbox 360 Live MMORPG". While you do need Live Silver to access FFXI, it's not really part of it; Live just acts a portal to PlayOnline.

I hope some good MMOs come out on consoles as its a much better way of playing for me but i dont see the point if they are developed for a keybaord and mouse set up and not a controller. With the amount of buttons on a controller nowadays i dont see any reason why they cant do this. The only problem would be typing to chat
My guess is that they will use Microsoft's Chatpad for text and the thumbsticks for pointing... it would certainly be a good way of selling the new addon.

Check out "XNA", I believe it to be the future of game development. Microsoft definetly had their thinking cap on with this one. You can create games on your PC using the C# programming language and the XNA software development kit (SDK). You can then port them to the XBOX 360 directly, no altering of the code. The current package came out in December and a pro kit is to be released this year. I've been learning C# with Visual C# express and XNA (Both FREE downloads from microsoft)...yes I said free. I am absolutely amazed at the capabilities of this package. Check out the links and videos below, they explain it better than I can. It is pretty new, as time progresses I'm sure we will see MMO games coming out using XNA for both windows and the 360.

Amen brother. Amen.
PC = Keyboard, mouse, upgradeable hardware, multi purpose
Xbox 360 = unreliable hardware, limited functionality.
Amen brother. Amen.
I said the same thing until I got an Xbox 360 and LIVE....
My opinions on the console are forever changed.
Edit: Yes. I will definitely be playing an MMO on Xbox 360 LIVE. LOL.

If programmed right, there's no reason for gameplay to suffer when playing an MMO on the 360. Don't know what the serial interface-modders will do though.

I really dont think the Xbox 360 as a better choice for mmos. It just, right now, to expensive for gamers. Look at it this way.
You will most likely need Gold membership, thats $50 a year, $60 for the mmo(they never lower the price of mmos at retail even if they will still cash up $15 monthly from consumers) ++$15 monthly to play the game.
$$$$
your first year with the game would be=180 from fees, 50 for Gold plus 60 for the retail game=$290 in one game. Plus lets say they allow keyboard use and mouse so you will another 30 to 50 bucks for the keyboard.
Now you spend $300+ to play that game, while the 360 sure its a good alternative for people with crappy PC its also an expensive one. Also for the 360 you must remember that at any time you can get the Red lights of Doom and that would be over for your 360.
MMO's and consoles do not a good match make at least with the existing technology.
By the time you spend enough money to upgrade your console, bigger hard disk, keyboard, mouse, more memory you could have bought a nice PC. Besides the graphics on a PC are much better.
Trying to play Wow on a 1024x768 screen would be a disaster.
Phantasy Star Universe isn't a MMORPG (though it's advertised as one) but its still an online rpg for 360.
Right now there are 2 mmorpgs that are slated for the 360. Age of Conan and Marvel Universe. AoC will release this year (unless the date slips) on Oct. 30 then next year will come the 360 version. Marvel is being developed for both.
The ps3 has The Agency and DC Comics online.
To say that the either one is better than the other is a misnomer. The Graphics power of the 360 is stronger than that of the ps3 while the ps3's cel processor may be more powerful than the processor of the 360. Development for the 360 is reportedly far easier than that on the ps3 plus Sony holds a stranglehold over what can be developed and released on it's hardware.
2008 will be a good year for owners of either platform.

Yes both are good machines, 2008 and 2009 will see a fierce competition between the two giants PS3 and Xbox360 and will be a very interesting 2 years for us gamers as a lot of next generation titles will begin to mature. PS3 may have suffered bad publicity from the onset but Sony are by no means far from being out. It seems the past trend of holding exclusive titles are finally at a decline as publishers begin to publish games for multiple platforms. This is good for us gamers but bad for Sony. Still there are many future battles to be fought by these 2 giants and the war hasn't even really started yet.
