I have never played swg my self(downloading the trial now, to have a go at it), but what made me not go out and buy it when it came out was the different reviews and people saying it was bugged and unfinished. Now if I play a new mmo by some small and/or independant company my threshold for bugs and lack of content is higher. Its like driving a mini. It lacks a certain comfort, you`d wish it to go faster, have more room, but still it has its own charm. Its to be expected.
Now when someone like SOE makes a game you`d expect it to be a ferrari. They got a shitload of people working on it and huge budgets. So, it will cost you more, but hey its a ferrari. Now when your ferrari is delievered at your door you go insane with happyness only to discover that it lacks wheels, doors and the steering wheel.
The feeling I get is that SOE is a big and evil company only after our money. "Yea I know it is unfinished, but its Star Wars man, we`ll sell a shitload of copies just because it is Star Wars." "Ahh man I love this buisiness, we sell the people our 75% complete game and then the stupid sods will pay while we develop the remaining 25%" "Try doing that with a pair of tennis shoes".
I know that you cant iron out all the quirks and kinks in a mmo when it is launched, but I think we can expect a certain level of proffesional pride from the people making and in particular publishing the game.
I swear to God, us MMORPG players need to be protected from our selves. We`re just a bunch of sadomasocistic bunch of people who act like someone who is in a relationship and get beaten senceless only to return to the same partner as fast as he or she promise to not beat and yell anymore and everything is going to get fine from here on out.
MMORPG player should unite and make a pressure organistation and show that we don`t want to be treated this way.
Uhum I`m ranting a bit arent I. Anyways to sum it up. I believe the reason SWG gets a bashing is because of people expectations. At fault is our lack of ability to have a realistic view on what to expect and more importantly promisses left unfulfilled by devs and publishers and games being launched to early.
I just started playing MMO`s 2 years ago, but I have learned a few valuable lessons. I don`t care what licence you have for your game, and don`t care how much cool stuff you promise to include in the game. I don`t belive you and I wont start to believe you unless you prove me otherwise. Making me feel this way after only two years, I`d say the buisiness has some serious credibility issues.
Originally posted by Djin Just like EA... I bought Battlefield:Vietnam... I won't play it untill the new patch comes out... but wait... they are so busy making Battlefield 2, the patch got pushed back... this is just like SOE... they are so busy making other things they tend to "forget" what really needs work and what doesn't.
patch is out for version 1.01. And yes, the m60 is fixed. It is now less accurate and at a slower rate of fire. No more n00bs spamming the hell outta it. Version 1.1 is coming out soon with new attack choppers for both sides. Much better now, although some people still have gripes that the leathality of weapons isn't still up to par. And also, they patched swimming. Much faster rate of speed now.
edit: Also about patch...don't go directly to EA's site for it. Go to Battlefield Vietnam's Official site for patch download.
