You can just buy the latest one without having to purchase an earlier one and be up and running. So, that obviously can't be the reasoning for CoX's status.
Only the ratings for GW where merged, forums & rest of the information-system is still there.

From what I remember GW-ratings where merged because the users requested it. (GW has only one expansion which is not yet released, there are three chapters which are stand-alone.)

I see no mention of merging the ratings for CoH-CoV in this thread but a complete merger which has not happened to any game(s).

Actually I was advocating that very thing.

The part where I mentioned to treat CoX the same as Guild Wars.

So, sure... just do the same for CoX.  Merge the ratings and just put one entry in the side bar menu for Forums of the Released Games.  Just like it is for Guild Wars.

You only see the other entries for the Guild Wars games when you go to the Game List menu. (Who goees there to click on their forum choice?)   If you click on the Forums menu (the one I'm betting about 95%+ use)... you only get one listing for Guild Wars; while CoX gets two listings.

So, I agree.  Just do it the same as you've done for Guild Wars.

I thought I would pop my head in here and clear some things up.
First of all, City of Heroes and City of Villains are indeed two separate games. Games based on the same system, yes, but still two separate games. People who have played both will tell you that there are indeed differences. For example, the classes are somewhat differently balanced. Boyond that, the level caps for the two games are different (or at least were for a time). Throw in the fact that you, as a hero, can not just walk around freely in the Rogue Isles, and a Villain can't walk around Paragon City. Yes, there is some overlap, but they are different games with different quests and adventuring areas for each side as a part of their own games.  To me, that doesn't say expansion.

Guild Wars on the other hand, saw your character move through the different zones in a way that is much more similar to a standard expansion. The reason that they are listed separately at all is that they are, technically, stand-alone titles.

In short, as long as heroes and villains are separated into their own games, they are classified as two, distinct games.  Often as well, players will identify themselves as either a City of Heroes or a City of Villains player (this isn't in all cases, but ha been my experience). For a number of players, the two communities are different.

As to the games being run on the same billing system, and with one monthly fee: There are a number of cases of this in the MMO world. No one is arguing that ebcause of the Station Pass, EverQuest II and say, Star Wars Galaxies are the same game.

    Hope that clears things up.

Heh, no offense Stradden, but you're making a pretty big stretch there.

To say that CoH and CoV are different just like EQ2 and SWG are different (because of the billing).... heh... o.k.

You forgot to mention the other things that are the same for CoH and CoV that ARE NOT the same for EQ2 and SWG.  The main one being.

    The same server!

Unless things have changed drastically since I left SWG and EQ2... they weren't being played on the same server!  Where the same avatars can interact with each other, just like in Guild Wars, or any other MMO that adds a new area for that matter.

For example in EQ when they added Kunark.  If you wanted to play the lizard race, you had to start in that area.  You couldn't just stroll into the Elven starting area, or the Human starting area either... just like Paragon City and Rogue Isles.

When they added Velious you had to decide which faction to go with... Giants or Dragons.  It was an entirely different way to play versus what was released before.

When they added the cat people on the moon... heh, well you get the point.

The two sides of CoX... plays almost exactly like opposing factions on a PvP server of any of the other MMO's.  Not really any different than the Rebels and Imperials for SWG.   Different quests, different adventuring areas... yup the whole ball of wax.

That was why I listed the three things being the same with CoX that are unique to it and Guild Wars.

    The same server... check

    The same account.... check

    The same billing... check

When you add those 3 up... how can a person logically then say:  Nope two different games.  ???  I guess I'm just not seeing it.

Well, as it's your site; you obviously get the final say...   Just like to add some points to the discussion that may not have been addressed before.
