This event was a hands on event for press, which is why of course they don't look as experienced. We have discussed adding a low level combo so that people learn that earlier while still using the oar. (We actually have one already)
PvP coverage will be coming soon.
One of the posters above had a good suggestion: get a video of someone who knows what they're doing playing. Have them tackle something high-end so people can see what they'll be working toward.
I doubt the occasional bad-gameplay-video is going to hurt AoC much, but I think a really great gameplay video could do quite a bit that's helpful. A lot of people really want to like the game--but you've got a lot of strong competition already in place and coming out around the same time.
I second that. Get a video of someone who knows what theyre doing. We are aware that spell animations arent in yet, so maybe a good melee video with some good combo's would do the trick. Come on, throw us a bone

Hmmm, you mean like the one that curse-gaming did with Athelan that went up a few weeks ago?

Taking in the consideration that the style of gameplay is realistic, I would say that in general it looked pretty good. You could see the combo bar/hub on the bottom and Stone working it. Looked like you could get into it, it was without sound and music so I think adding them in as well should ehance the game. Overall pretty good, they should release more videos like this more often. They could make it a little more flashier though.
A little problem I have with it though, and that is the blood. Now I understand this is the world of Conan and its supposed to be brutal, and Im for all that, but at one point when hes fighting multiple enemies the blood fills so much of the screen that its kind of hard to see the beautiful animations in front of you. They need to lessen the amount of blood. I wouldnt mind blood splatters, but this is just ridiculous. And I know, you could turn it off, but I like blood too
So you're just gonna get one combo slot for every ten lvls and thats all the abilities you will have? I thought you would get normal skills like other mmos and combos would just be extra special skills that where activated by a combination of normal attacks but i guess that was wishfull thinking Sorry but i wont be grinding 10 lvls to get one combo that might just be one extra attack the thought of doing that bores me to death and i fail to see how a system like that will lead to using any tactics in combat as opposed to button mashing the same 5 attacks from lvl 1 to 80 A system like this would be weak even in those single player action rpgs but for an mmo... unacceptable
No, listen to him speak. He said that "since I am level 50 I have 6 active combo slots" meaning that during combat you will be able to perform 6 different combo's. If you want to peform Combo B, but you dont have Combo B in your active combo slots, you take out Combo A to replace it. The next time you enter combat, you will only be able to perform Combo B instead of A.
If you look at the window at the right of the screen, you can see a bunch of different icons (and he scrolls up and down on it) so youre certainly going to have more than 6 different combo's to perform at 50. So considering that the first 20 levels go fast youre going to have 2 to start out in the beggining of the game. Its not button mashing considering that combo's need certain attacks beforehand to use. And Im sure there are clickables also.
The one thing that I have gripes about is how many combo's that youre able to perfom. Why limit us by giving us these "combo slots"? In fact, Im sure people will be able to create macros to quickly replace combo's in the combo slot anyway.

I'm sure that Athelan is way too proud to admit it, but to save him a little face, I kind of feel obligated to mention that there was a bug that I guess made the bear do 3x as much damage as it was supposed to, which is why he died.(rumour has it that he's not that bad!) That's what one of the dev types said on the O-Forums!
At the least we could see how much easier and fluid it is with someone who's had experience in that system.
As for the blood issues. I think it's better used sparingly--more like on a good hit or something. Having blood spurt constantly is like using profanity constantly or nudity constantly (I know I've lost some of you with that one)--it loses it's shock effect; it's specialness. Those things have power when you have to work for them and they are not ubiquitous. If they're common as flies in a Porta-Potty, then they just become part of the background and scenery--something to ignore after a few hours.
Apply lemon juice and candle flame here to reveal secret message.
But where is the connection between cavemen and Conan? When reading the stories, I never imagined the stealthy thieves and agile warriors moving around like neanderthals. There definitely is a problem there.
