and your not expecting to run it with top graphics.
False.
Not really false. If your using bootcamp (IE Running windows natively) Then you can run it at top graphics. However if you are using parallels then you are probably going to have to scale it back a bit. Even though parallel's is less of a system hog then the old virtual P.C system, your still running a OS virtually and running another resource intensive program on top of that is more than likely going to cause issues unless you have a MONSTER system.
what are some good mmorpgs for mac os x? Free or pay is fine.
NO GO BUY A PC.
"Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one ..." - Thomas Paine
Why? The new Intel macs have the ability to run XP and Vista. If cost is not a concern, why not have a machine that can run 3 OS's natively as opposed to only being able to run 1? You didn't explain why he should buy a PC, you simply said to buy one. Why?

Well it's a known that PC's are by far better for gaming,
As for the Intel Mac's i doubt they can even compete with the latest Intel or AMD chipsets on PC, add to that graphics cards, RAM (Corsair/Kingston), Soundcards ect ect. Mac is a glorified console plain and simple. If want to be a gamer or are a gamer PC is your choice. What is the point of getting a Mac to put window's on it in the first place, if you buy a Mac it's because you want OSX for a specific purpose such as business or graphics design.
Thats the point he's getting at. Because the MAC can run your gaming OS, why get another machine when the MAC can do it all; Windows, OS X and even other OSes?
As far as competing, sure they won't be the "fastest" but they sure as hell aren't the slowest. Not eveyone can afford a top-notch, $3K machine just to play games. Some people actually use computers for other things too, like work . If you want to play games, and still be able to get some work done on a stable OS, then the MAC is the ultimate choice.
Besides, clearly if the OP was a hardcore gamer, I am sure he would have already known the MAC is not the best choice for that lifestyle. I have yet to see any hardcore gamers out their, mistakenly buy MAC's as gaming machines.
To actually asnswer the OP's question. If your only running Mac OS then you might want to check out Minions Of Mirth. The graphics are a bit dated, (think DaoC) but the gameplay is unique and inovative. You can play dual class toons up to lvl 20 and if you buy the game you can triple class up to 100. Lots of quests and areas to hunt in. The game has no monthly fee and is $30 to buy.
A few nice things about Mom:
You can hot swap between toons.
All your toons share a bank and have their own vaults too.
the ability to run your own server.
Mobs drop what they are using as far as weapons and armor. Animal mobs drop too.

Ok, I am going to break this one down in parts.
"As for the Intel Mac's i doubt they can even compete with the latest Intel or AMD chipsets on PC"
-Not true, Intel Mac's DO use the latest Intel chipsets.
"add to that graphics cards, RAM (Corsair/Kingston), Soundcards"
-Macs are the choice for high end graphics design, It stands to reason there are plenty of high quality video cards and RAM for them. Sound cards? You may be right on that one, haven't check whats available in awhile.
"What is the point of getting a Mac to put window's on it in the first place, if you buy a Mac it's because you want OSX for a specific purpose such as business or graphics design"
-I can explain this in one word. Versatility. Having a system that can run windows AND OS X gives you a versatility that PC's lack. Not only do you have a quality gaming rig while running windows, You also have the more stable and secure OS X for doing everything else. If the money is not a concern, this sounds like a no brainer to me.
"Well it's a known that PC's are by far better for gaming,"
LOL, known by who? This may have been the case before the Intel macs that allowed them to run Windows natively but now thats simply not true. The reason why macs were never considered good gaming rigs was because all the gave dev's programed for windows. Well, thats not a problem anymore.
You can get Boot Camp, Parallels or VM Ware Fusion and run windows on your Mac. Then you can play what ever PC games you like.
First off, Parrallels does not have direct X support yet (I heard it will in the near future, plus check out both bootcamp and parralels because both are very different apps)
I run my g4 intel macbook pro on bootcamp (its free in beta right now) and i must say it runs much better then my pc on every game ive tested.
Making so much noise you dont know when to listen.

I highly doubt that Mac's are now available with Intel Quad setups. Also just because the Mac is is good for graphics design does not make it good for playing games at high resoloutions with a high fps. You need a good graphics card for that. I'd bet an ATi HD2900XT would put a Mac to shame and that card is nothing special.
If you feel like eating crow follow the link. As far as graphics go, no they don't have the latest and greatest, but I don't think that the card they have right now isn't capable of producing decent gameplay.

Do I have to give you a link to the customization portion when ordering? Some MAC's come with onboard like the Mac Mini or the Macbook. Some come with integrated VGPU solutions like the Macbook Pro and iMac. Some come with dedicated, swappable video cards like the Mac Pro.
So to answer your question.... yes some of them have graphics cards.
As far as PC's getting the tech faster than Mac's. Mac notebooks (from what I remem ber) were one of the first to get and release the new Intel Duo Core technology, before many others. To reflect on the past..... Mac's at one point had very superior technology that became standard on the Mac before it even hit the PC world. We even had faster processors, back before the turn of the century, but both Motorola and IBM dropped the ball. I'd bone up a bit on Apple history and hardware before making wild accusations.
The PC market may be king at the moment, but Apple, as well as other OS'es are making leaps and bounds over what the current Windows market is offering. With that, the shadow that the PC market has over the others is slowly dwindling down.
The Mac is on the rise again with OS X, whether or not you wish to believe it. I've been on both sides of the spectrum, and right now I am feeling pretty good about where Apple is going. But don't worry, Microsoft will be around in no time to take a few more ideas for their next OS. Wait didn't I just hear that Windows Vista Ultimate owners still haven't recieved all their promised features? Hmm, hop on www.cnet.com and take a look at the article, if your interested in keeping up with the PC's and their so called ultimate OS.

That's actually a myth, MAC's are not the choice of high end graphic design, they is typically done with render farms

1) you can put any os on a PC as well, including OSX
2) OSX is not more stable than Windows, and security based on not having enough users to attract negative attention is not better security. I'm not trying to start a flame war so I'll leave out the f'd up interface out of it.

I am a graphic designer, and I have worked in both design houses and print houses and the Mac, and every variant of OS that has been on it over the years has been the standard. So no its not a myth, but its not set in stone either.
You can not put OS X on a PC LEGALLY, so until it is completely support your opinion is not valid, unless you like to do those sort of things...
The UI is easy to use and intuitive. It must be a taste thing but I prefer to not have the OS get in the way of work. I get this in Windows. As far as stability, I have had my computer here at work online for over 1/2 a year with no issue what so ever. The Dell we have in the back has to be restarted because of OS issues at least once a day. Stability in my realm, the Mac wins. Security I have never tested it, but I have never had any issue to speak of. The computers in the office portion of the building are always fending off viruses, who would have thunk it.
Mac OS X is not a closed system, in fact they offer a Worldwide Developer Conference, known as WWDC where they in fact encourage software developers to come and figure out how to develop for the OS. Visit www.macupdate.com and tell me those developers were unable to build an application because the OS was closed.
One of my favorite games Daimonin just happens to be for mac os. The stunning isometric graphics and outstanding gameplay should be sufficent for your GODLIKE os.
I don't use Vista ultimate so i don't give a rats arse on the feautures for it. I use Vista 32 home premium until the 64bit version is more stable. Oh and your precious OSX will be getting dumped soon as Apple and Google are making an OS for PC and Mac. Neither of those companies have the money to compete with MicroSoft though so i can easily see MicroSoft dominating the OS market for the next 20 years. Another thing to take into account is that with MicroSoft in the console market Xboc gamer buying PC's are gonna know MicroSoft and go with Window's. The average person in the street knows what Window's is, can the same be said for OSX?
You strike me as a funny and contradicting person. For someone so wrapped up in the latest and the best, you only are running a OS variant that is far from the best? Why would you go to so many lengths to talk about the latest and best hardware, when you yourself aren't even using the latest and best OS that Windows has to offer? Let alone you talk of Windows as a dominent player in the future when yet you have said yourself that they can not even release a decent version of Visat for 64bit, which is the future.
As far as the new OS thing goes, can you please send me a source for the Google / Apple merger? I would be interested in seeing any truth to your speculation. Otherwise it would make no sense at all for Google or Apple to invest in development for a new OS that would work on both platforms when OS X already does.
As far as money goes for competeing with Microsoft... its very obvious you don't have to have the money of Microsoft to create a useful and popular piece of hardware or software. iPod or iPhone as examples. Even with all of MS money, they still can't create a MP3 player that can compete. Can I get my Zune in brown.
iPod buyers and iPhone buyers are also going to follow in the footsteps of your console kiddies. They are going to see Apple, and buy Apple because they know Apple. The average person on the street may not know what OSX, but I am sure they will say the same for "Vista". What the average Joe does know is "Apple".
Apple & Google teaming up and dumping OSX? hahahaha. Ok sure the interweb has alot of words on it and you may have become confused.
Google does work closely with Apple, the CEO is on Apples board of directors. They are collaborating on software, not a replacement OS.
Google are working on an Online OS, or at least experimenting with the technology as found in Google Docs.
If you don't like/want/know anything about a Mac that's cool, but why the need to post worthless (and factless) crap about the subject. I don't like Celine Dion, but I tend not to go bitching about her on various message boards.
The bloke asked a simple question, he did not ask you to tell him to switch to a PC, for all we know he just dumped his PC for a Mac, people do use their machines for different things and if gaming isnt #1 then a Mac is a good way to go.
Fact: A Mac today is a computer using the same processor family (x86) and components as any PC's running windows (albeit typically better components which are tested to be highly compatible with each other to avoid typical PC hardware conflicts)
Fact: There's not a massive amount of MMO's for OSX, but the free Bootcamp allows you to install Windows and run everything at NATIVE speed.
Fact: Parallels runs x86 software at practically native speed within OSX, with the only exception being games, they tend to need more direct hardware access, although Parallels does run many games well in OSX, for true native performance you should boot into Windows.
To chime in on the OP I'd say WoW seems to be the most polished MMORPG on OSX as it was developed for OSX alongside windows and not just ported over.

You can not put OS X on a PC LEGALLY, so until it is completely support your opinion is not valid, unless you like to do those sort of things...
Just saying that it can be done

wow, Mac's have 2% of the computer market, windows over 90%. Why would malware target one over the other?
Until Mac's UI supports opening 2 instances of the same program out out of the box, and the ability to make every window use the entire screen it's a 3rd rate OS. Period.
Since my Macbook crashes and fails all the time I guess that means that it's the most unstable os there is, especially since my windows systems never have any issues. Anyone that knows computers knows that not every system is the same and issues can be caused by hardware as much as software. I've found that in my experience about 90% of problems, especially in Windows are cause by the person sitting in front of them.

It is a closed platform, just like the ipod and iphone and everything else made by apple. Not anyone can develop for it, and development code is not avilable to everyone like Windows is.

I probably will get ultimate 64bit but only when it's more stable, yes MicroSoft a little way to go with it. The Ipod is easily out matched by a few other MP3 players on the market, it is just that the Ipod has manifested itself as a fashion accesssorie.
You know what, all this time I was using my iPod to play music... I didn't know thats not what it was for.
Maybe I should see if I can turn it into a belt buckle, then I'd be using it for its true purpose.
LOL! come on though you know what i mean, they have all the flasky adverts and all that. Most people get it for the cool factor. I personaly prefer the creative ones but that's just me.
I know what you meant but I have to disagree as usual. I bought mine because it was functional, it worked on both my PC and my Mac, it held my music, pictures, and even some files I wanted to transfer from one machine to the other. I am sure are buying it for looks, but I am sure amny of use iPod owners out there bought one because it just works. The advertisements are flashy, but thats what advertisements are meant to do, get people to buy your product. I'm sure if Creative had the same flashy Apple cool, we'd say the same thing about them. Obviously their advertsiement campaign was not anywhere near as good as what Apple could bring to the table.
Although my first MP3 player was from Creative over 8 years ago, I do enjoy the color screen, the touch wheel, and UI the iPod offers. My greatest words of advice would be to not knock something until you thouroughly try it.
What the average Joe does know is "Apple".
iPods are sold to the idiots that only go by who has the flashiest commercial. People who have a clue get an actual good mp3 player like a Zen

You can get Boot Camp, Parallels or VM Ware Fusion and run windows on your Mac. Then you can play what ever PC games you like.

and your not expecting to run it with top graphics.
after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
Play World of Warcraft, it runs great on mac without any extra software, and it is a great game. Best of both worlds.
Minions of Mirth
Planeshift
Shadowbane
enjoy them!
False.

Why?

As far as competing, sure they won't be the "fastest" but they sure as hell aren't the slowest. Not eveyone can afford a top-notch, $3K machine just to play games. Some people actually use computers for other things too, like work . If you want to play games, and still be able to get some work done on a stable OS, then the MAC is the ultimate choice.
Besides, clearly if the OP was a hardcore gamer, I am sure he would have already known the MAC is not the best choice for that lifestyle. I have yet to see any hardcore gamers out their, mistakenly buy MAC's as gaming machines.
Agreed.

Ok, I am going to break this one down in parts."As for the Intel Mac's i doubt they can even compete with the latest Intel or AMD chipsets on PC"

LOL, known by who? This may have been the case before the Intel macs that allowed them to run Windows natively but now thats simply not true. The reason why macs were never considered good gaming rigs was because all the gave dev's programed for windows. Well, thats not a problem anymore.

If you feel like eating crow follow the link. As far as graphics go, no they don't have the latest and greatest, but I don't think that the card they have right now isn't capable of producing decent gameplay.I highly doubt that Mac's are now available with Intel Quad setups. Also just because the Mac is is good for graphics design does not make it good for playing games at high resoloutions with a high fps. You need a good graphics card for that. I'd bet an ATi HD2900XT would put a Mac to shame and that card is nothing special.

www.apple.com/macpro/
Looks good but that will be available on PC aswell and PC always gets the technology faster.
Mac's don't even have a graphics card though do they, it's all onboard.
OMG.
www.apple.com/macpro/graphics.html

One of my favorite games Daimonin just happens to be for mac os. The stunning isometric graphics and outstanding gameplay should be sufficent for your GODLIKE os.

To chime in on the OP I'd say WoW seems to be the most polished MMORPG on OSX as it was developed for OSX alongside windows and not just ported over.

wow, Mac's have 2% of the computer market, windows over 90%.

The average person on the street may not know what OSX, but I am sure they will say the same for "Vista". What the average Joe does know is "Apple".
I didn't know thats not what it was for.Maybe I should see if I can turn it into a belt buckle, then I'd be using it for its true purpose.
LOL! come on though you know what i mean, they have all the flasky adverts and all that.
Can I get my Zune in brown.

iPods are sold to the idiots that only go by who has the flashiest commercial. People who have a clue get an actual good mp3 player like a Zen
