Why? The new Intel macs have the ability to run XP and Vista. If cost is not a concern, why not have a machine that can run 3 OS's natively as opposed to only being able to run 1? You didn't explain why he should buy a PC, you simply said to buy one. Why?
Well it's a known that PC's are by far better for gaming,
As for the Intel Mac's i doubt they can even compete with the latest Intel or AMD chipsets on PC, add to that graphics cards, RAM (Corsair/Kingston), Soundcards ect ect. Mac is a glorified console plain and simple. If want to be a gamer or are a gamer PC is your choice. What is the point of getting a Mac to put window's on it in the first place, if you buy a Mac it's because you want OSX for a specific purpose such as business or graphics design.
Ok, I am going to break this one down in parts.
"As for the Intel Mac's i doubt they can even compete with the latest Intel or AMD chipsets on PC"
-Not true, Intel Mac's DO use the latest Intel chipsets.
Yeah, just don't expect support for high end video cards such as anything in Nvidia'a 8 series.
"add to that graphics cards, RAM (Corsair/Kingston), Soundcards"
-Macs are the choice for high end graphics design, It stands to reason there are plenty of high quality video cards and RAM for them. Sound cards? You may be right on that one, haven't check whats available in awhile.
That's actually a myth, MAC's are not the choice of high end graphic design, they is typically done with render farms
"What is the point of getting a Mac to put window's on it in the first place, if you buy a Mac it's because you want OSX for a specific purpose such as business or graphics design"
-I can explain this in one word. Versatility. Having a system that can run windows AND OS X gives you a versatility that PC's lack. Not only do you have a quality gaming rig while running windows, You also have the more stable and secure OS X for doing everything else. If the money is not a concern, this sounds like a no brainer to me.
1) you can put any os on a PC as well, including OSX
2) OSX is not more stable than Windows, and security based on not having enough users to attract negative attention is not better security. I'm not trying to start a flame war so I'll leave out the f'd up interface out of it.
"Well it's a known that PC's are by far better for gaming,"
LOL, known by who? This may have been the case before the Intel macs that allowed them to run Windows natively but now thats simply not true. The reason why macs were never considered good gaming rigs was because all the gave dev's programed for windows. Well, thats not a problem anymore.
1) OSX is a closed system, which is the main reason there is so much less development which makes it a pain in the but because not everyone can develop for it. Not everyone wants to kiss Steve Job's ass to be blessed enough to develop for it. Emulating another Os is not exactly fixing the problem, it's called giving up on trying to fix it.
I am a graphic designer, and I have worked in both design houses and print houses and the Mac, and every variant of OS that has been on it over the years has been the standard. So no its not a myth, but its not set in stone either.
I didn't mean that they aren't used, just that it's not an automatic that Macs are used for that. That kind of stuff can be done on any kind of computer.
You can not put OS X on a PC LEGALLY, so until it is completely support your opinion is not valid, unless you like to do those sort of things...
Just saying that it can be done
The UI is easy to use and intuitive. It must be a taste thing but I prefer to not have the OS get in the way of work. I get this in Windows. As far as stability, I have had my computer here at work online for over 1/2 a year with no issue what so ever. The Dell we have in the back has to be restarted because of OS issues at least once a day. Stability in my realm, the Mac wins. Security I have never tested it, but I have never had any issue to speak of. The computers in the office portion of the building are always fending off viruses, who would have thunk it.
wow, Mac's have 2% of the computer market, windows over 90%. Why would malware target one over the other?
Until Mac's UI supports opening 2 instances of the same program out out of the box, and the ability to make every window use the entire screen it's a 3rd rate OS. Period.
Since my Macbook crashes and fails all the time I guess that means that it's the most unstable os there is, especially since my windows systems never have any issues. Anyone that knows computers knows that not every system is the same and issues can be caused by hardware as much as software. I've found that in my experience about 90% of problems, especially in Windows are cause by the person sitting in front of them.
Mac OS X is not a closed system, in fact they offer a Worldwide Developer Conference, known as WWDC where they in fact encourage software developers to come and figure out how to develop for the OS. Visit www.macupdate.com and tell me those developers were unable to build an application because the OS was closed.
It is a closed platform, just like the ipod and iphone and everything else made by apple. Not anyone can develop for it, and development code is not avilable to everyone like Windows is.
Once again I fail to see where you grasp your information.
Both are links to the WWDC I spoke of as well as resources for anyone interested in developing for the platform, feel free to go there and become part of it. As far as I knew the iPod, iPhone and iTV OS X variants are the only forms of closed code. OS X is very open, you just have to be part of the ADC to do so.
As far as your Macbook crashing all the time, as you said I suppose its the guy sitting behind the screen. I have a Macbook and have had nothing but stability. My PC at home, while rather Stable, still randomly crashes. Is it the OS, maybe, maybe not. Its its a bug in the application I was running. But everything I use, on my Mac works.
I don't use Vista ultimate so i don't give a rats arse on the feautures for it. I use Vista 32 home premium until the 64bit version is more stable. Oh and your precious OSX will be getting dumped soon as Apple and Google are making an OS for PC and Mac. Neither of those companies have the money to compete with MicroSoft though so i can easily see MicroSoft dominating the OS market for the next 20 years. Another thing to take into account is that with MicroSoft in the console market Xboc gamer buying PC's are gonna know MicroSoft and go with Window's. The average person in the street knows what Window's is, can the same be said for OSX?
You strike me as a funny and contradicting person. For someone so wrapped up in the latest and the best, you only are running a OS variant that is far from the best? Why would you go to so many lengths to talk about the latest and best hardware, when you yourself aren't even using the latest and best OS that Windows has to offer? Let alone you talk of Windows as a dominent player in the future when yet you have said yourself that they can not even release a decent version of Visat for 64bit, which is the future.
As far as the new OS thing goes, can you please send me a source for the Google / Apple merger? I would be interested in seeing any truth to your speculation. Otherwise it would make no sense at all for Google or Apple to invest in development for a new OS that would work on both platforms when OS X already does.
As far as money goes for competeing with Microsoft... its very obvious you don't have to have the money of Microsoft to create a useful and popular piece of hardware or software. iPod or iPhone as examples. Even with all of MS money, they still can't create a MP3 player that can compete. Can I get my Zune in brown.
iPod buyers and iPhone buyers are also going to follow in the footsteps of your console kiddies. They are going to see Apple, and buy Apple because they know Apple. The average person on the street may not know what OSX, but I am sure they will say the same for "Vista". What the average Joe does know is "Apple".
iPods are sold to the idiots that only go by who has the flashiest commercial. People who have a clue get an actual good mp3 player like a Zen
Why would I buy an outdated MP3 player that doesn't sync with my software, can not play my iTunes Music Store purchases, and let alone just does not work with my Mac? Makes no sense to me.
As I said I bought my iPod based on functionality, not a commercial.

If you want real market share numbers, need to keep your eyes peeled, and quit recycling old news from the 90's.
As far as OS X being closed, I still do not understand where you are coming from.
