Is it over?

PkhBaskoPkhBasko Member UncommonPosts: 59

With Warhammer Age of Reckoning coming to the PC this Fall of 2007, one can only ask...Is World of Warcraft over?

Here is my opinion...Hellz No!

I don't play World of Warcraft but I do intend to play Warhammer...If it is possible to beat WoW then I think WAR just might do it, however I do not believe that WoW will ever die...It is a very good game, lately it has gained flaws, and flaws, and more flaws. Some would think it will be the end for WoW when WAR comes out, but I do not believe WoW will ever die unless all computers explode and all internet recipients are shut down...Tell me your thoughts on WoW and WAR...

                                                                                                                                                   Thank You

Sorry to hijack your thread but Warhammer will not be out till 2008. But to answer your question it is the most likely game to cut into WoW's market share some. Wow Will hang in there like Everquest for a long time to come.

i have to say World of WarCraft was the best game in the world and never beating but  now people bored from this adict of players

then now WAR will not be a long time like WoW i can say No game in the world Can make what WoW maked Wow was have 9 mil players and a lot of updates it was the best game

i will say WoW but people will vote for WAR

With 8.5 million players how can WoW possibly die out in a month, or even a year for that matter. When WAR releases, Blizzard will most likely lose alot of subscribers but obviously they wont die out. It'll still be around for many years to come. Although my prediction is that WAR's numbers, seeing how many beta applicants there were, will surpass WoW probably after about one and a half years, maybe 2 depending on how great the game will be.

Oh gawd, not another "X new game is coming out and is totally going to pwn WoW" thread.

You can replace X with Vanguard, Guildwars, Archlord, Lord of the Rings or whatever you like. It doesn't really matter. WoW will pwn them all :)

Thats pretty much my view of things.

When EQ was out... every new game after it was proclaimed the EQ killer, but none killed it... instead its gone away very quietly as more and more games were released, which i think will be WoW's fate as well. 3 years from now people will be talking about WAR killers and WoW will be all but forgotten as a "current contender" but people who love it will be playing WoW till the servers shut down, not unlike EQ players.

The golden era of WoW is over. It will be a steady decline from here. The remaining holdouts will be people who can't upgrade PCs or are addicted to their gear and don't want to let go of their uber characters, or just fanbois.

WoW will not fade away for a long time though. It will just be a 2nd tier game for a time while all the other new games take center stage and eventually WoW just disappears.

It was fun while it lasted though, and the MMO world owes it to WoW for raising the bar when it did!

WoW may be a continuing success, but that doesn't mean we can't criticize it for the EQ rehashed, raid centric piece of crap that it is.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

WAR is not going to kill WOW, the only thing that can kill WOW is Blizzard. Sure WAR may take some subs, but not enough to really make a differance.

Of course Blizzard could throw us all for a loop and realease a new WoW expansion and kill WAR .

For the record I no longer play WOW and will probally be giving WAR a try.

DOAC is still the MMO I judge other games by, My first and still my favorite.

I really don't think WoW is gonna die, i mean EQs been going for so long.  Also, I hope WAR doesnt kill WoW... that means more WoW guys playing WAR.  I honestly hate a lot of the WoW player's attitudes.  I know theres gonna be assholes and corny fuckers in every game, but WoW is ridiculous.  Sadly, I know theres gonna be a bunch of the same pricks playing this game.

Thought they said WAR will be released in 2008?

    ...

In any case, WoW still pretty good so far.  Outlands pwn!

Its not really much a debate all your poll will show is how many ex-wow players read these boards.

WoW is a game on its onw, It made a market and a format for a old ideas that are fun.

You can jump in or out of the game at any point, you dont have to keep upto date and every patch note, there is no GOD class I win button.

you can play every day or not play but a few hours a week and can get to the same end point eventually. thats what makes wow a solid game, good stable servers, fast customer support and delivery on intended product.

Now as for WAR... its just more of the same. there wont BE a wow killer till someone Does something new... and that new wont be more orcs elves swords and scorcery.... it will have to be SCIFI or modern setting... anything else is just more of the same.

Anyone that says ..ohhhh war will be great its this ..its that...  its more of the same ... dont lie to yourself.. your still pixel  trying to get plate/leather armor and swords muskets and spells to complete quests.... or to pvp ....

Till there is a gret Sci FI game.. that has new non class based system...pretty much what OLD pre NGE star wars was... nothing will threaten or slow down WOW... cause untill then...your just playing more of the same,,and IF im going to play the same stuff...might as well be on my characters I have now..with the guild I have now, and achieve teh goals I have in this game.

I'm not a WoW player, but I've been through a few changes in my days of Everquest. The first thing you'll notice is that yeah, the game will take a hit. WoW will have less people on, and that'll last about a month or so, depending on how well WaR keeps them. Then once the hype is over, there will be some people back on WoW because they love the game and there really is nothing like it. There is plenty of room for other MMO's in the industry. I'm kinda tired of people thinking just because something new is coming out, the older game is going to die or something. Hell, EQ and DAoC, even UO is still putting out expansions. Sure they might not be #1 but your account is still going to be there aslong as you agree to keep paying. Its very rare that a MMO dies off now days, I think I seen AutoAssault announce they were canceling or something the other day, thats really a rare event. And look at EQ2, it came out and had some nice sales, then went into a slump, everyone was crying it would die, then they made some changes and BOOM its back up there. Sure its not #1 but its doing pretty well. So for crying out loud, lets stop talking about "WILL IT DIE? When WILL IT DIE?" Its kinda lame, its almost like you wish it would happen.

The difference being that WoW is the number one game by quite a margin. Where is Everquest in the lists these days? Still being played but its success has been dwarved by WoW.

WoW didn't kill Everquest but it has done a lot, lot better. Likewise Warhammer, no matter how successful it is, won't kill WoW. For what it's worth, I don't really see why everyone assumes it's going to be such a roaring success anyway. The game isn't even out yet and already people are saying it's going to dethrone WoW as the number one MMORPG. If anything, I'd have said the only game that had a real chance of beating WoW was LOTR and if that couldn't do it, I don't see Warhammer pulling it off.

And it's the most successful game of them all by a long, long way so I'd suggest, first MMO or not, it still wins hands down in every category you care to mention.

WoW will not die even tho i wish that it would =/. but WAR and AOC will definately take a huge chunk out of its player base. AION and HUXLEY might take another huge chunk out. so it wont be the 8mill or however subscriptions it has now. but instead 1-2 million (wishful thinking because i hate the game but for some it might be good not trying to bash it jus personal opinion) which means it will still have a huge chunk of the players but wont be so dominate ne more.

I got a good question. Is it really 8 million people though? I know alot of people who have more then 1 account and i know people who have 7 accounts or more.

  • miatakamiataka Member Posts: 232

    TBH

yes Id say that is a majority of ppl only have 1 account.

Granted I have 2 myself and your person you know has 7.

I am the only one I know of in our guild that has 2 accounts, and Im sure your 7 account friend is also the exception not the standard.

More improtantly, It dont matter, cause a box was sold and a the account is active counts to the 8 million weither or not that person has 50 active accounts.

there are well over 5 billion peopel in the world...8 million playing 1 game is not that big of a number.

the Only game that will really hurt wow population is IF they make a Star Craft MMO, and who cares its blizz right they wont lose anything now will they.

You must know a lot of unusual people then. You can have 10 characters per server on every account. For me that works out at roughly 1000 characters if I really wanted. If someone has gone and actually bought for themselves a second account, or even seven accounts, they must be pretty dumb.

Yes, you can have 10 characters per realm, but you are restricted to 8 realm per account (and what if you want to play on both side of a PvP realm? then you'll need a second account...)

ON: WoW is massive and tough, I don't think any newcomer MMO could ruin its playerbase; only the years and Bliizard can do that...

dude, 200k beta applications is NOTHING.

Lotro had over a million beta apps, WoW's beta I can't remember but it was well over 200k.

So, I can't see how you can predict the success of a game from its beta applications numbers anyhow as applying to a beta cost nothing :D

To 8.5 millions. It is Accounts, not players, yes. But people with multiple accounts exist in all games and it has always been accounts, not players. in all games.

    So what does it matters?

I also believe most people have 1 account, especially the casual. like me, my wife and all my friends :D

I have a feeling that WOW will weather the storm all right. I personally will be playing WAR only for a good long while, but I think most long term WOW players are addicted to it like I used to be, and will not close their accounts. What they will do is have, maybe for the first time for some of them, subscriptions to two MMO games open at the same time.

I think most of WAR players will be WOW players too. These two games are/will be at the top of the hit list for the next decade at least
