I just had to react, Griefing is not herresing, griefing is an playstyle. They know they end up alone or with an small group of other griefer. However this is and can only be done I PvP areas....What would an PvP game be without the griefer? Boring, very boring infact. Also if you play an game with PvP and get killed in legit ways (Most griefers do not cheat perse) then it is your own fault. You enter the game/PvP area and know this could happen.
If you find an griefer in an place where you have to pass and you aint strong enough, then usaly asking poeple for help does infact help. I personly dislike killing poeple without in reason in an mmo, just aint my playstyle, but I do not disrespect the griefers. Well I do dislike the one who thing there good becouse they killed an random nuub with an strong charater or go after the same nuub constantly. Then you not harming this person gaming, but also the game. However still you choice when entering an PvP zone.
I've known people who were suspended or banned for extended griefing. And yeah they pretty much deserved it. I agree with the person who said griefers are usually the one with no PvP skills and must get there satisfaction picking on lower level people.
I think you should take up MMA fighting. I find it to be very theraputic, and pinning someone to the ground and repeatedly punching their face as hard and fast as your arms will allow > hitting a few keystrokes to win in a video game. If you really wanna act the part of a badass, dont do it in a video game, go out and actually fight. I think itll help you put this whole "im a griefer" thing in perspective. The true paradox here is someone acting like a badass about the worlds whimpiest past time. Video games.
I agree. This asshat claims he's not a coward? LMAO. He would never have the guts to "grief" in real life, that I am certain. He will always hide behind his computer.
If someone tries to do something to annoy me, all I can do is laugh that they have the time to waste on trying to accomplish something ingame that isn't going to happen. Corpse camp me or PM me all day, it's not gna work

Right, which is why I hide behind a "mask" and YOU hide behind "your picture".
You guys keep talking tough I'm going to start throwing my real Internet weight around. Which may or may not include, having to use what I learned in this most sacred of sacreds.
Tunabun. Seriously bro, your a pretty funny guy. I wasn't going to say jack but heck i'll bite just this once. I guarantee you if i (or anyone for that matter) was standing right in front of you in real life you would not cause me/them grief in anyway.
In any case, this thread needs to be locked. Its just a big hate, flame, troll bait kind of a thread.

Thanks bro, I can be funny but generally that wears off fairly quick. As for that guarantee, who knows, it would depend on the circumstances, what you say and how you say it, I grief people in a myriad of ways, most of it intellectual. I am not an impolite person in general but comparing ones online actions to real life actions is kinda asinine, don't you think. I mean, I wouldn't open up some furry porn and pull my pants down in the street either, some things are just uncalled for.
I disagree this needs to be locked, I didn't create it for flamers or haters, although I'm happy to defend against them. This thread was for a group that almost never gets to speak, look at all the stories, doesn't it seem that these people have the fondest memories for a time that revolved in some way around griefing or getting revenge on a griefer.
Allow us one thread, no more hate, just passionate stories of cunning and deception. MUHAHAHA!
So corpse camping or killing lowbies is now considered cunning and deceptive? Wow, this guys comedy keeps growing and growing. You should quit your career in griefing and become a comedian.
If the proud griefers would please list the games(s) they are currently playing and the server(s) they are on it would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently choosing a new MMO to play with my son and avoiding players such as yourselves is a high priority in our choice of game.
Think of it as a way of giving a little back to the gaming community you feed upon
Just wanted to give a shout out to all my fellow griefers. Most people don't want to admit they try to annoy people or "grief" in games, but I think I can safely say many do on occasion. Maybe it is not your day, maybe someone did something to anger you and you take it out on the closest person, or maybe you just LOVE, I mean blood dripping from your fangs, love, to harass and get a rise out of people. Whatever your reasons, you know it feels good deep down in that dark part of your soul. To us, the griefers, without our dedication games would be a hands across the world Utopia. Give some stories, I would love to hear some exploits of the fellowship.
There were 2 other fun griefing spots for me in Everquest. As an Ogre Shadowknight, my character was absolutely huge, and EQ has collision detection, so you can't just run through characters. The zone lines to Lower Guk and Solusek were notorious for trains, and it just so happened that the size of the entrance/exit area was barely big enough for an ogre. I could zone in and hang out and just block the zoneline so those poor fools running for safety would run smack dab into me, and have no other choice but to die. I could then either Feign Death, or just zone out myself to avoid the train. Many, many nasty tells and shouts were sent my way for those little experiences.
lol, yeah i remember when it was like that...they have since removed the collision detection and you can walk through characters now.

Haha, I remember being blocked by a couple fatty Ogres and dying at the zone line. That was you wasn't it?
I used to love to pretend to be an NPC in the noob areas of DAOC. Id give people random quests for vendor trash type items and they'd actually spend alot of time doing them! Had to stop when I refused to give this guy who was a total ass around me teh item I promised him as a reward. Got a message from an admin telling me not to impersonate an NPC lol. Great fun while it lasted
People would create characters that looked like the bankers in EQ1 and stand in front of them hoping to be given some loot. Sometimes someone who wasn't paying attention would lose their stuff that way.
Yay! Flamebait. Well my hat's off to the OP; certainly this is as good a way as any to get people talking, productive or otherwise. I have to admit I think the odds of a lock escalate by the minute. Nonetheless, as a fellow griefer, cheers.
Like many others I distinguish between griefing, which is a variant on sadism, and genuinely cheating. Hacking, or using bugs to cause results (like using a trade window exploit to rob someone of a full set of equipment, for example) is I think quite a bit farther on the ethic spectrum, and I steer from it. Granted it may be the developers' responsibility to maintain security, but an advantage gained fairly (by leveling, bringing friends, using class abilities like FD, MC, charm, etc.), is different from one gained by third-party software or other means... anyway...
I didn't really get into the griefing business--well no, that's not entirely true... we trained a little in FFXI. Had to die to get it done, but when one person sacrifices some exp to make sure that six jerks lose some too, that's worth it... anyway.--as far as a matter of routine, anyway, I didn't get into griefing until WOW, where like so many others I consider myself a product of the system. Started on a PVE server (to avoid being ganked), got bored, went PVP in order to gank people. My brother and I made Shamans and never played them alone. Even in our late 30's we could routinely take down a single 50... and we did. But the real joy was in the Wetlands. North end, where the evil dwarves are we found a paladin in his mid-20's PVEing. He was just the right level to be green to us (and worth honor), but totally defenseless. We camped him for over an hour (granted, not worth honor anymore, but still fun). Then we walked the path back and forth from the alliance town picking off anyone we ran across. I suppose in a way it was exploitative in that we abused the level/honor limits to their extremes, but it was a valid game mechanic.
The moral of the story is that I feel no remorse here. I've been camped, I've been trained, KSed, harrassed, tricked, pirated, bugged, and every other possible grievance that one person can do to another in an MMO. --and pissed as I may have been, I shrugged it off and went on. I don't consider it a kind of justification for amoral behavior, but it's part of the system. Frankly I think the little "Accept" disclaimers people have to click whenever they start most games should be modified with a bright bold caption: WARNING: Somebody might decide to be mean to you during the course of play." Some of them might already have this.
The argument is circular--not the reasoning, the argument. Those of you who whine and complain about griefing behavior for the most part probably lack either the maturity or the tempered strength of character to be able to take the actions of others with a grain of salt, and simply turn the other cheek, so to speak. Is griefing right? Well, no, probably in most cases not. But it's fun, and when I log onto an MMO, I'm paying my money for entertainment--for fun--just like the next guy, and I've never, ever, ever had something done to me in a game that I couldn't also do myself. John Doe in the Wetlands was there to get his kicks, and my brother and I were too. I'm sure he went on and ganked many many horde in Hillsbrad--hell, he might even have griefed me on some of my alts. But that's the give and take.
So long as you continue to feed the griefers, we will continue to grief. If I can make a little boy on the other side of the country cry--I might feel bad about it, and I might tell myself not to--but with a little anonymity, I just might do it, just for the sake of having done it. When the little boy grows up (or better yet, when his parents pull him off the computer until he's old enough to not let getting hit with chain lightning on a video game tear him up), he can pay it forward.
The bottom line is that if a system permits it, it's going to happen, and nobody likes being on the receiving end. --but we all have, and the difference is that some of us perpetuate the system by adapting and reaping the benefits of our endurance, and some of us... well, don't... some of us never get over it, and just come on the forums and whine because they don't like griefers. Shame, that.

Only reason i can think of of people acutally enjoying griefing is those with big issues with therselfs or their IRL life.
I enjoy PK'ing but that doesnt involve any griefing at all thats a entire other story.
