I feel like this is gonna start another flame war, so to answer your question before the heat gets turned up, WoW is still the 900lbs Gorilla in the room, and it'll be that way for a long time. Population is just fine, use the wowcensus.com site to choose a server best for you.
I wish WoW wasn't the master of the mmo's but it is.
I've tried countless games, and none of them beat WoW for it's interface and movement, and thats the only reason in my books it's the winner, the control you have over your character is amazing. On other games I.e. FF11 and Lineage 2, the point-to-click movement is terrible, gives you no control whatsoever. If they had the same movement control as of that in WoW I would play Lineage 2 because it's PVE seems very nice.
I've been looking for a decent game to play this week, and found nothing, I might have to go back to Warcraft, unless anyone else has any opinions on another game with the sort of control as WoW.

lineage 2 does offer the same movement control as WoW , you can use point and click or your WASD keys, just like in WoW, where u can also use option to point and click move or WASD.
that makes it the best by the people there bud lol
Your 'poll' is a thinly veiled trolling attempt which is further reinforced by your response here.
Go play WOW if you like (I'm betting you already do) and quit bothering the rest of us for answers to questions you already know the answer to. (i.e. that WOW still has the largest player base or is the 'best')
Some of us don't care for it.... I enjoyed it for a time and burned out on the repetitive game play and raid-centric end game and moved on to other games.
But I don't start threads on these forums looking for trouble....

Only thing with WoWcensus is that they don't purge the numbers often enough to really show a true player base on a server, and it also treats every persons multiple characters into the mix as well which can skew the numbers as well. Interesting tool to use, but not really good for anything.

wrong. that's like saying McDonalds is the best, you should eat there for the rest of your life!
Ignore all other fast food while you're at it.
Oh good, the WoW is like McDonalds quote, this would be true if all.. ALL! review sites and magazines did not score WoW around 90%+ (hightest rated MMO ever).
If WoW had 8 million players and really poor reviews then yes its like MACD, because MAC'D has millions of customers but poor food reviews... but WoW has 8 million players and is the highest rated MMO ever at 90%+ from almost all sites (even the expansion got 90%+).
So WoW and MAC'D is nothing alike.. please come up with a sensible and researched made-up comment pls.

This has absolutely nothing to do with food, thats the idiotic Vanboi little arguement while they think they are being clever by shouting "GO PLAY WoW". Well the pure B.S. of boring game play to just eat up time is done.
As for Vantard, I couldn't have said it better then this: You dare to compare WoW to McDonalds Vanbois, crawl back to your game that deserves cancellation!
I'm writing this review in the hopes that I can save some fellow gamers the disaster of having to deal with this game.
In short: Everything about it is embarassingly bad.
The production values are substandard. This is an early beta at best, no where near ready to have gone gold. By level 7, I had already come across two broken quests and numerous graphical glitches. The worst is when the entire screen (except for text and the UI) goes totally black. Sometimes the sky randomly disappears.
Speaking of the UI, it's broken and unresponsive. Just TRY shuffling icons around the hotbars or doing something simple like putting tools into your utility belt. Go ahead, I dare you. The most trivial of tasks are infuriating to accomplish. Usability never even made it as far as being an afterthought.
The storyline and starting area (at least for the Kurashasa) are contrived. This isn't a matter of personal preference. The entire area, race, and plot are just flat out stupid by any standard you use. If there's a person or location, you can bet its name sounds like it was picked at random from a bag full of Scrabble tiles.
Despite its well publicized machine requirements, the graphics aren't that great. You'll feel like you've warped back to 2003. Terrain textures are utter crap. Models are executed well, but the character design itself is completely uninspired. Shaders are so-so, and are used so shabbily that they make the game look like a cheap $5 trick.
The only halfway decent thing about this game is the Diplomacy system, which wears thin after the 50th time you go through it.
I've played free Korean MMORPGS that are more polished than this. It looks, plays, and feels like a mod put together by a team of amateurs. Or a 12 year old's aborted attempts at creating a fantasy world. Shame on Sony and shame on the developers for pushing this turd down the pipe.
dont bother war is pretty much a GOOD version of wow with GOOD pvp. just wait for warhammer.
You can't say that for sure. Thats not even really accurate at the momment since no one has had a hands on feel of WAR. Just because it looks great and looks like it will deliever great content, doesnt mean that it will. Even so WAR will have its first few momments of lagtacious problems that no one ever likes, that will probably make serveral players quit. Though I'm not flaming WAR , because I would like to try it. Just saying take it from someone who has tried every MMO-to-date , and ends up back at WoW every single time.

The McDonalds analogy is perfect (it's only an analogy relax). McDonald's food is good but you don't see anyone standing on street corners praising McDonalds with "McDONALDS IS TEH BEST"signs much like WoW players constantly praise their game is the best on forums like this one.
Actualy if you look at the Games list here WoW is ranked #17. Under Asherons Call (#14) and even Ultima Online (#11). Seems Lord of the Rings is Currently in the Top Spot.

WoW is most certainly the most succesful mmorpg out there when it comes to $$$.
I have no quarrels with World of Warcraft. I keep coming back when I get out of my financial slumps. However, it just isn't my style of gameplay. It has a large playerbase, an interactive environment, and it is enjoyable. I always prebuy 6-month plans. The problem I have is that, no matter what class I try, it always ends up too repetitive for me. Quests to kill x number of y things. No quests to kill x number for y items. Quests to travel into uncharted lands. It just gets repetitive. I admit, most MMOs are like that. Problem is that it just isn't my style. I'm more into the FFXI style of games, so after about 3 months of my 6 month plan, I switch over to FFXI, and play that til I don't work currently. Regardless, WoW is a pretty good game, and I love the playerbase, but I'm more attracted to FFXI. Sorry. But I would say if you like the gameplay style of WoW, you should play it. If you aren't sure, try it. If you don't, don't.
The WOW and Mcdonalds anology is retarded and inaccurate. Most all mmorpgs cost about 50 dollars when they come out and cost 15 a month.People goto Mcdonalds because its much cheaper then buying quality food.People dont play WOW to save money because it costs about the same as any other mmo.Not to mention, WOW has received pretty much universally good reviews for being a high quality game.

Ye but _why_ ppl eat at mcdonalds is irrelevant. The guy stated that "WoW is the best game ever coz it has the most players". In that case, Mcdonalds is the best restaurant ever coz it has the most quests of any restaurant. Dont over analyze, just go with it.
What game is "the best"? Its just a matter of preference and opinion. WoW is a good game. But for me WoW isnt the best game no matter how many god damn boxes they sell
WoW is only 2 years old almost 3 (if my memory serves me right) . Not only that, you can't ignore the fact they just added a xpack which included more content. this may be stray offtopic for the moment. but no matter you have to look at games that did sort of the similiar things in the past, such as Asheron's Call, DAoC , ... (im not saying AO i just lawl at that game ) ... not matter what anyone says about WoW , Blizzard has been running the Warcraft series for years with no troubles, and hardly any complaints. WoW will not be different , even though we think so because the fact it turned into a MMO.
The votes don't lie despite the infinite number of fanboys screaming in terror at the possibility of someone saying no.
World of Warcraft now.. isn't the most popular anymore.. matter afact.. there really is no MMO thats "ungodly" popular now. WoW is certaintly in the elite circle of the few.. but its not nearly as high up as it used to be. A fallen MMO-God will you? As more and more stuff comes to the market its numbers will slowly begin to diminish.. like all MMOs.. its time will eventually come and it will pass away... the servers may still run and people may still play.. but it'll no longer be the glory it once was.. what a shame..
