They all are great shows, it just sucks that they all go by so fast and then they are gone!! seems just like yesterday BSG was new, and look now it is going away!! damnit!!
BSG is not going away, the new BSG: Razor Premiers this month on Sci Fi channel and looks to be even better.
BSG has been the only Sci Fi show to be in the top ten tv shows ever and that is quite an accomplishment.
I've really enjoyed Stargate Atlantis this season. ------------------------------------------------------- I think BSG is having its final season though. I believe that's what the other person was talking about. ------------------------------------------------------- I want more Jill Wagner.
I don't think it will be in its final season after all it was in the top 10 tv shows and that is quite an accomplishment. I guess we shall see how the ratings are for it this season before dismissing it for another season.

Nah, BSG's done for. I love the show, but the producers are ending it after Season Four. It has nothing to do with money or ratings; The story apparently has a "Definite Endpoint" and they're supposed to reach it at the end of Season Four.
I wish they'd do more, but hey, I'd rather have a great season than two or three crappy ones.
We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment; We are choosing to be here right now -Tool, Parabola
Couldn't care less about SG: Atlantis. It is way too cheesy and I stil can't think of how it keeps suviving.
It took me a while to get into either SG-1 or Atlantis. I saw Stargate the movie at the theater though, and loved it. Now, I'm totally devoted to Atlantis. I love the characters. SG-1 lacks something though. It just doesn't have the "funny" that Atlantis excels at.
BSG is not going away, the new BSG: Razor Premiers this month on Sci Fi channel and looks to be even better.
BSG: Razor was a two hour TV movie... not a series. BSG itself is ending this next season. It's a final decision.
Yeah, I found that out late. It does sadden me that an awesome show like BSG is ending this season but from what I read it was never intended to be an ongoing series but to have a finite amount of seasons with a solid ending.
Well the world isn't fair, shows come and go, but Stargate Atlantis is a show that I couldnt stand to loose after SG-1 was canceled, What show would I turn to for my sci-fi genre dose. So guys just incase Atlantis falls through the floor boards help me pick a new show to watch. So keep posting and I'll watch this thread.

Aside from BSG, SG:A, and maybe Lost if you consider that Sci-fi... there aren't too many other good Sci-fi shows on TV. Soon there will be a total lack.

Lost Two and a Half Men
Moonlight Smallville
Ok so I went abit off topic, so now I'm just gonna askk what shows are good, preferibly sci-fi genre (put them on the top of ur list).
Oh and ofcoarse I will watch those futurama and simpsons re-runs and I will watch some Family guy and American Dad (maybe not the highest calibur of comedy for the last 2, on example can be the fat guy strangler ep of family guy).
a great sci fi show is Firefly to bad it's only 14 episodes and a movie
+100
I was pissed when FOX cancelled Firefly.... I'm freakin sick of networks not giving a show time to grow, If it doesn't do good within the first few episodes they cancel it... that's messed up...
I remember Cheers was a bust the first season but after a couple of years became a #1 show for several years...

well, if SG:A wi go away, i can just toss away the TV...
and i'm shocked no one mentioned B5, the best sci-fi series ever (well, except for season 1 and season 5, i can understand a few episodes to get into the heat of things and one or two episodes to close off the series, but a whole season for each...)

I just don't get where people think BSG was an 'awesome' show. It was way way WAY too soap-opraish tbqfh. It had some great episodes in there but the vast majority was just utter crap.
Wife loved stargate, likes Atlantis HATES BSG
I love stargate, love atlantais, liked firefly liked farscape, liked many others.
Kinda neutral about BSG.... it jumped the shark too many episodes for me to really like it. Only reason I really watched it was because it came on the same night SG1 and Atlantis did. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have bothered.
BSG was a mediocre show that benefited from sharing a night with two awesome shows (3 when Firefly was on)
"A ship-of-war is the best ambassador." - Oliver Cromwell
The TV Series is, but there's two SG-1 Movies (Direct to DVD) that are coming out soon... There suppose to finish up the story line that started in season 9 (the ori or whatever there called)...

I completely agree with that. We have had amazing shows like Firefly that get cut short even before they even get started. It's already been said that BSG will end, but if we loose Atlantis then we have lost a large portion of quality sci-fi tv.
We already lost many shows and recently SG-1, lets just hope something new comes out or what we have now stays
On the contrary, the movie Stargate was not that great. As for the Stargate series lets just say it's better than both Dr. Who and BSG combined. The show lived longer for a reason, while shows like BSG and Dr.Who are so boring it's no wonder they only last a few seasons.
Actually Dr. Who has been running since the 60s. I like the new series very much, and I grew up watching the old series. My favorite Dr was Tom Baker.
SG-1 is being continued thru various movies, but the executive producer is trying to get the series picked up by another network but sci-fi is messing with that thru contract actions. Since they are the ones that canned it due to lower neilsen ratings for season 9 and 10.
Stargate Atlantis isnt going anywhere they were just picked up for its 5th season.
As a former employee of verizon I can tell you that the ratings are not done on our end, but with tracking hardware independently as someone mentioned.
That hardware also tracks tivo and DVR's so doing that counts.
However... unless your signed up and have it installed... your watching doesnt count.

That hardware also tracks tivo and DVR's so doing that counts. However... unless your signed up and have it installed... your watching doesnt count.
And that's exactly why I think evaluating shows based on ratings which you have to sign up for is a bunch of BS. Probability says that more people watch tv who aren't even signed up, want to be signed up or ever will sign up (for various reasons). Yet they base what shows they put on tv or cancel from a small population of people that signed up to be rated when more people watch tv and like shows that get cancelled and those people aren't being tracked.
I think that's probably why so many shows fail so quickly. Invasion was a good show but cancelled. There was another decent Sci-Fi show I can't recall the name of but they changed the air date and time on that so many times in it's first couple weeks that no one could keep track of when it came on. In fact, they never even advertised the first time they changed the day and time. It went from 9pm friday nights to monday and then 2 weeks after that it changed to tues at a different time. Then "finally" heard they were gonna change the day and time again but later they decided to cancel the show.
Basically it comes down to this, from my family, friends and co-workers (a good 100+ people), not a single one of them are signed up for the rating system. however, more than half of them watch sci-fi shows and aren't even part of the rating system. So why let a select few who can afford to sign up or have the time to sign up or even have the want to sign up (some people don't like having their actions tracked for any reason), dictate what those of us who aren't signed up watch? I mean do you let the grocery clerk tell you what you should and shouldn't eat? Do you let your job tell you what you should or shouldn't spend your pay check on?
I say find some other way to evaluate shows and screw the rating system. heck I've never seen what one of those boxes even looks like. I know not a single person in 30+ years that has ever been a part of it....So I'm wondering just how many people actaully are a part of this system and why it plays more of a role of whats on tv than the fans do.
Heck I'd like a public vote to show who likes what and watches what rather than a small group of idiots that probably don't even turn their boxes on dictate what shows are watched or not.
Too many good shows get cancelled and crap shows get put on tv especially these days. I mean look at realilty tv....networks assume that everyone wants to see 50 billion reality shows on tv....well not me, I'm so sick of realtity shows and talk shows it makes me not watch any tv anymore except for the stargate series.
BSG is crap (though I liked the original). Doc Who....exactly, who the hell is this guy with his cheesy show. Maybe because it's not an american show and more non-american's like it I don't know.
Oh and the absolute worst Sci-fi show on Sci-fi is flash gordon...OMFG! they totally butchered that show and the movie was way way way better. I'm a sci-fi junky and I'll watch just about any one for a while, but flash gordon plain sucks.
also, whoever said to watch Lost as a scifi replacement....uhm that show sucks too. Logically speaking, they should have been off that damn island a long time ago.....the things they do on that show just don't make any sense. I can barely get through an epsiode without falling to sleep.
And as much as I love Atlantis, it's starting to get totally boring. I mean this last episode I watched was about the base malfunctioning and locking down. WTF! is that it? Even the attempt to have people on the base bond by locking pairs of people in rooms together didn't spice up that show. At one point before the break I thought that the wraith were forgotten and the replicators took over the show. Now the wraith are teaming up with atlantis and it's not even michael...LOL I mean also what happened to ford? What about the geni (however you spell it)....oh wait, they are coming back as enemies in the next show, yet they were supposed to be vastly wiped out previously. Seems to me it's the writers that are making shows bad, not the fans. They just aren't entertaining us enough and keep repeating the same ole scripts. For example, this last atlantis episode is no different than 2 episodes ago when teyla and the doc got stuck on that planet together. Only difference is the location and amount of people stuck together, oh and at least teyla had some bad guys causing their problems not some malfunction in the computer.
Sorry guys, as much as I love atlantis, the writing sucks bad now. 90% of the shows are boring now and I'm about to stop watching.
So it can go if it's gonna be this bad....teyla is boring though she's supposed to be this badass leader who can fight, negoatiate and have wraith powers....she sucks now and does nothing to spice up the show but talk a bunch of crap that don't mean anything to anyone.
Rodney, although I hate his whining and over extended parts (he dominates the show most of the time like it's about him or it's his show)...but he is still better and more interesting than the rest of the cast.
Ronin sucks now too...he was this bad mysterious dude but now he's a wimp and about to fall in love with the doc....LOL Bring carson back, she sucks as a doc anyway...she's just an attempt to get a pretty face on screen because weir is gone, telya isn't cutting it and samantha is getting old.
sorry to rant guys but how can we support a show where the writers don't seem to give a damn and don't try to make new and orginal content....heck even if they do something that's already been done at least try to spice it up and hide the fact that it's a rip off of another show or previous plot they already done with SG1.
I still have hope for the show but I'm about done watching tv at all....just stick to miy video games for now I guess and maybe some movies.
OH! I just had an idea...how about a Alien vs Predator series on anything but the sci-fi channel becuase they seem to screw up sci-fi shows now.
Oh, one more thing, bring outer limits back (new shows) or tales from the darkside and even twilght zone....those were all good series......heck even alfred hitchcock was better than 90% of sci-fi shows today. I wouldn't even mind dead zone (does that still come on?). I never got a chance to see dresdin files or whatever it was called....seen about 30 minutes of the first show but fell to sleep due to being tired from real life things.
The ratings are actually based on a very very small number of ppl. so as said it doesnt really make a difference asking ppl to watch
They're selected to try and get the widest range of Cultures, groups, classes etc
and i remember seein on a show the ppl taking part are under contract never to reveal that they are, so as not to have producers bribing them lol - Watched a crap show about 2 guys trying to get their own show on tv - they broke in to the tv commision or wotever and stole the list of ppl with the box's and tried bribing them.... ended up they did get their show on the tv...just it was the footage of them trying to get their show on tv...which was rather odd.....
Neways...Always liked the early SG1 - after the Ori i thought it got crap...too many all powerful indestructible beings that every week got destroyed.... Fightin the Goa'uld(sp) was more believable.
Atlantis seems good but never really caught on with me, i wathc if i happen to flick through and find it every now an then
