First off this is not a thread for people to argue, I just want to know if there are others who feel the same way about harry potter.
I DON't LIKE IT! not the newest movie, not the newest book, not the older books or movies; the entire thing! For some reason, i seem to be the only person I know who does not like harry potter (books and movies). I have no real reason, its just the way I feel.
Anyone else?

Mm, I can't agree, as I dont have the same feelings.
I don't like Sci-Fi, simply beacause I just don't. So I understand where you're comming from.
I don't like baked beans...
I've never seen it. I have no interest in pottery or anything like that. I've got a nice vase and THAT'S IT.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
I don't like it too much neither.
the first book wasn't bad.
I just keep reading(after the second book) hopping harry is going to die. one can only hope....
some day some one is going to shove the next book in my face. I'll read it then and not sooner.
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
I really don't heed it any attention. Its kind of like asking me my thoughts on Tennis...Some people like it, all the power to them.
I guess I feel pretty "meh" about Harry Potter. I don't really see what all the fuss is about. There are way better stories and characters around. I read the first book, saw the first two films, and wouldn't go out of my way to read or see any more.
Edit: Ignore me I'm in a wierd mood tonight.

I wouldn't say that I don't like it so much as I just don't give a shit about a childs book as a grown man.
Now, if an adult wants to read the book, fine.
When they become freakishly obsessed, and start writing homoerotic fanfic about the characters, then... there's a problem. Much like overweight, hairy men aged 35-40 dressing like Sailor Moon. It's just fekkin' wrong.
I feel that it is overrated. But the movies are good fun. Not epic or deep like LoTR, but fun.

I love Harry potter. I have read all books like a thousand times, and even to this day I still love to read the books. The movies..not so much. I find all Harry potter movies to be dumbed down versions of the book. It skips important parts or dumbs down long ended parts of the book, and often it just completely removes characters. I can understand the reason behind it, but as a fan of the books, it annoys me greatly. The books contain more pages with each part, so it only gets worse. I didn't even finish the Harry potter and the goblet of fire movie. It just skipped so many important parts, its not even funny anymore. I got bored half way through the movie. Now I'm not even going to bother to watch Harry potter and the order of the phoenix.
It's not even out yet, so how can you not like it. Seems to me you haven't read a single page of any of the books and wish to simply start a flame thread.
I saw the first movie on cable and went with some friends to see that prisoner of alcatraz one and wasn't very impressed. It just doesn't interest me. I can't explain my lack of interest, the story just doesn't spark an interest to me. Some people say the story is for little kids and many adults say parts of the books are pretty graphic. Eh whatever floats your boat.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
A lot of people will not like Harry Potter books or movies just based on the fact that they are popular. I have numerous friends who never saw Titanic, because as they put it "I'm probably the only one who never saw it". Just like a ton of people talk badly about World of Warcraft who never actually played it. It is human nature, but also very foolish.

It's a pretty good concept and idea. It's not anything ordinary or special and it's certainly not in the same league as Lord of the Rings or Wheel of Time, but it's still a pretty good book and such.
Yeah, I just feel 'meh' about it.
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
I don't like Harry Potter either. Mainly, I think it's because Harry Potter is a very special person to whom very special things happen; he is not like the typical hero who can be ordinary, but strives very hard to do heroic or extraordinary things. Harry Potter has it all given to him.
For example, Harry Potter is an excellent wizard because he was born that way, not because he studied hard and earned his knowledge; he's just a natural. If there is a name to be drawn out of a hat for a special reward, it's always Harry Potter's name that gets drawn. He's just special, he's better than you or me, he doesn't have to try. He's like those DAOC characters that use the "/20" command to automatically level to 20, at the start, instead of working there and levelling up like the rest of us.
And that, IMO, makes for a crappy hero that's hard to identify with. As someone once said, "you should brag about what you've earned, not what you've inherited."
I enjoy the movies because they are just good, light entertainment for me.
The books, not so much. I'm a little embarassed that I read them, actually. But my sister, an English teacher, said they were good. So I bought them when I was feeling desparate for something to read. Having bought the entire series in a box set I forced myself to read through the whole thing.
Well...they weren't terrible as far as childrens books go. But I wasn't very impressed. It sorta makes me wonder about my sister now.
I don't want to go into a deep analysis but there is one thing the author did that is something of a pet peeve with me. She changes her own rules whenever it is convenient. And she does it a lot.
For example: When Harry first managed to do the Patronis charm she made a big fuss about how difficult it was to do and how rare it was. Then in the very next book she had a bunch of the students doing it. And not just doing it but doing it casually and playing with it in a trivial, whimsical way.
But I'm a bit of a stickler for consistancy so maybe that sort of thing doesn't bother most people.
Also, as Fugnudz said, I get a little fed up with all the 'special little boy' crap revovling around Harry. The whole thing with the Quidich (sp) sport was just a contrivance to let Harry be a hero, yet again. Everyone on the team is irrelevant except for the seeker. And of course Harry is the most bestest seeker ever. The author made up a sport which is won or lost by just one person on the team so that special little Harry could be special yet again.
Harry this and Harry that. Always better than everyone else. Everything revolves around Harry. I wish in the last book/movie that Harry would get his ass kicked and have to be saved by Nevil or someone. Just to show that the world doesn't revolve around one person.
I even feel that those books might be sending a bad message to kids. Because they have a powerfully narcissistic tone to them.
I've enjoyed the books and the films, although I'm not obsessive or anything. I've only seen one in the theatre (my sister and father wanted to go) and the rest on television or DvD. I pass the books on to my brother in law, who also enjoys them, and he passes them on to a friend's children. They are good fun and well written, not at all what one would expect from a children's book.
Overall they aren't my favorite books in the world, but they definitely aren't the worst. Harry Potter would be one of my favorite "Kid" Series. Right after The Chronicles of Narnia series. And I even think some of the Harry Potter books are better books then some of the Narnia series. I definitely like Harry Potter a lot more then say Lemony Snickets (sp?) books.
But all of them pale for me in comparison to say LOTR, Riftwar Saga, Shannara, The Belgariad, and The Malloreon to name a few series I have really enjoyed.

I couldn't get into it, even when someone gave me the first book and a printed guide line of all the characters a few years back when I was in high school. I bet it's good, but just never got into it. Magic, broomsticks and hocus pocus never really effected me to even read the book.

I can watch the movies with my son without either falling asleep or turning into an axe wielding homicidal maniac, so it's OK. I wouldn't want to watch the movies on my own as it just doesn't interest me enough, not that they're bad movies or anything but it is directed at children.
The weird thing is when I was from the age of 10 I went off all kids movies and loved to watch Schwartnegger and Stallone more than anything else. My son is 10 this year and likes Harry Potter but would probably prefer to watch something like "Starship Troopers" or "Total Recal", I guess I've been a bad influence MUAH HAH HAH!

I think it's kind of the opposite. Everyone in the books thinks he's an excellent wizard because he's got the big famous name, but most of the time he gets by because of someone else's intervention or out of sheer luck. I've never read the books, I'm only going by the movies, but it seems like he's actually a fairly crappy wizard, but always has to live up to expectations that are always higher than he could ever meet.

I've never read the books, and I'm not about to start reading children's books. I watched the first movie on a recommendation and really enjoyed it. To date I've seen all the ones out so far when they come out on DVD. There are good movies and I really enjoy the creativity in all of them.
