The Story is about Harry Potter. I don't see anyone complaining about Frodo being the only one to carry the ring. Or Rand being the powerful one in Wheel of Time. That is how stories go when there is a central character that is of great importance. The author is going to use examples to show why the character is special and important.
Yeah, I get what you're saying. But in my opinion the Harry Potter books really do go over the top in expounding how fantastically special Harry is. And a big part of the problem is that he's special through no merit of his own. He gets accidentally thrust into the limelight over and over again and everything always just works out for him even though he doesn't put any particularly noteworthy effort into anything.
Also, the author loves to create situations in which nearly everyone turns against poor Harry unjustly. Poor little Harry. But it's all a set up so that the readers can feed on the nacissistic melodrama again when the other people see, once again, how wrong they were and how right and wonderfull Harry is. Ah, sweet vindication.
But this is just my opinion. Different people interpret things differently.
I've grown out of Harry Potter. I use to be really into it. I've seen all the movies up til the new released one, which I probably won't even see unless someone rents it. I didn't read the last Harry Potter book and don't even plan to read the newest one.
I don't hate it or dislike it... I just don't have a preference either way I guess. It's just there.
Well, I'm so sick and tired of seeing and hearing the words Harry and Potter that I finally broke down and started reading the books a couple of days ago. I've never seen the movies, never read the books until now. While what I've read so far is "ok" as far as fantasy goes, they aren't spectacular or even that unique. The entire time I was reading the first book, I kept being reminded of a movie I had seen years ago when I was a kid. I only just today figured it out:
I'm not saying J. K. Rowling is a hack or anything, but what I am saying is that she isn't the best thing since J. R. R. Tolkien. I just wish I had her cash
JK Rowling might not be the best writer in the world, but she should be applauded for her great business sense. She is one of, if not the, richest people in the whole UK. I know she surpassed the Queen awhile back in wealth. To turn something as simple as a book series into such a extraordinary marketing machine is incredible.
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
I've read all of them except for Order of the Phoenix (the new movie that's out)...I've enjoyed them all, but The Goblet of Fire was definitely my favorite, with Half Blood Prince (which I read at work because I worked in a book store at the time) in a close second. They are enjoyable books, certainly not high level reading by any means, but they are written in a way that everyone can enjoy.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
It's not even out yet, so how can you not like it. Seems to me you haven't read a single page of any of the books and wish to simply start a flame thread.
Well since it isn't out yet, technecially its not the newest book.

I painfully inched my way through the first couple of chapters of teh first book, then i burned it, and i then began to gouge out my eyes. Boredom had me in a head lock and forced me to watch the first two movies.
The reason i made this post is because i went with a couple of friends to watch 1408 a couple of days ago, and there were only 18 ppl in a theater that seats ~200+; 6 of which were my friends and I (mind you I live in toronto, and this was a fairly large and popular theater). But it was nice not having ppl in the theater; it added to the movie experience.

She's rich, but no where near the richest. She wouldn't even be in the top ten, I don't think. We have billionaires in Britain... such as Richard Branson and the Duke of Westminster. I don't think she's at that level yet. (well, maybe in dollars. )

? So are you posting this because no one went to see 1408 which was out way before the Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix. 1408 was a good flick but it didnt make me want to dislike Harry Potter. I think the movies are ok and i agree with a post above that the goblet of fire is one of the best. I havent read the books and never plan too.

I was using 1408 as an example. Transformers didn't get a lot of ppl either. The theater had aout 8 screens for harry, and i was just wondering if there are ppl out there who do not like harry.

I liked both the movies and the books so i guess that puts me in the Potter fanclub somewhat.
