Bioware said they will not be creating a StarWars game and it'll be their own franchise, they did not enjoy working with LA.

KOTOR MMO in development?
Wednesday 25-Apr-2007 9:16 AM BioWare's online team tipped to be working on massively multiplayer Knights of the Old Republic console title
BioWare has formed a new online team to create a Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic massively multiplayer online game, EGM reports.
No further details were reported in the rumour section of the US magazine but we've taped our fingers crossed. KOTOR is one of our favourite Star Wars games ever and the thoughts of an online MMO is, frankly, too much to take in.
The magazine also reports on a few other BioWare-related rumours. The current PC-exclusive Dragon Age is coming to PS3 and the DS currently in development at the mega-studio looks to be from the Baldur's Gate franchise. They're all rumours at the moment but we'll keep you updated with any announcements.
If you missed Monday's shock news, CVG exclusively reported that the firm's highly anticipated Xbox 360 RPG Mass Effect has been pushed back to September.

From what Im reading here, this is no more offical then the info I posted here on mmorpg forums all ready, linking the fact they are making a MMO... infact for all we know EGM rumor room source of info MAY in fact be the stuff we have talked about here.
I really really want this to be true, and been predicting / wishing it since I heard BIOWARE opened a Austin, TX office. Until BIOWARE does offically announce what there new MMO will be lets not get to excited yet.
This game would make sense, but still.. lets sit and see what happens.
As far as I know of this is the onlything BIOWARE confirmed so far.

Canadian videogame developer BioWare Corp. has announced the opening of a new studio, BioWare Austin, based in Austin, Texas. It is the second of BioWare's studios and the first to be located outside of Canada.

So you see there you go, the offical stuff from BIOWARE, and its the same dated March 2006 that i mention now and then.
BIOWARE is a very smart company no matter what there MMO is it will be quality and a great game, If it happens to be a kotor mmo you know SOE and LA will not let them even PEEP a word about it till its ready to go beta, cause it will destroy SWG and make a firestorm of news media to deal with.
You know Current SWGers will be screaming to get some privialge to access, or charcater moves and all that BS. Like a time machine takes them back 2000 years or something stupid.
Lets not get excited and watch and look for real facts not, EGM rumor room.

If this were to be true it would be god sent, you know Bioware releases quality products and even though I have always thought of their new MMO being a SWG or something similar to it (sci-fi) you know that it will be a great game even if its not a new SW mmo. In my opinion I think a Mass Effect MMO would be much more exciting, being that it takes place in our Galaxy and our Solar System. Either way I love Bioware and have faith they will deliver, wether it be a KOTOR MMO or not.

BioWare Licenses Perpetual Technology for upcoming MMOG
Perpetual Entertainment, the developers behind Star Trek Online and Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising, announced today that BioWare’s Austin studio has licensed their online technology platform. BioWare Austin is the studio working on BioWare’s debut title into the MMOG market.

I'm surprised there isn't already some website dedicated to watching for this MMO even if it won't hit until 2009 hehe. The news section would be very slow but rumors section would be wild... Really hope it's Star Wars cuz Galaxies is... just... not Star Wars to me.

I think the point Moostown is making is that the article got one rumour wrong, the Baldur's Gate DS title. Bioware has also states that Dragon Age is PC only, but that's been in development for so long they may have changed their minds butr until I hear differently this article is 0 for 2 as far as these rumours go. And to be honest, if that article's sources were any good how could they have missed a Sonic RPG game?
As for the "KOTOR MMO", Bioware has not commented on what they are working on. A lot of people have said they are not working on a KOTOR MMO and I think there's a little confusion. On Bioware's forums developers have officially stated they ARE NOT working on a KOTOR 3 game. A lot of people are calling the supposed KOTOR MMO the third in the franchise or KOTOR 3, when technically it's not. I think that may be where the confusion is.
Bioware is not working on a KOTOR 3 RPG.
Bioware has said nothing, or denied anything, about their MMO.

I'd wet my pants if they were actually making a KoTOR MMO.
SOE, has turned mostly every past subscriber to the Dark Side... filling them with hatred. To see a new Star Wars MMO, the force will have to be strong with Bioware in order to defeat the mighty evil Emperor SOE. Let's hope that the Ewoks can come save us....

Actually they did. On the forums. Repeatedly. Mainly DA ones i think.It's why they didn't do either NWN2 or KOTOR2 and all their games coming out lately except the Sonic RPG are their own IPs. They said many times that it was too restricting for them to have to have everything approved by Lucas Arts / WoTC etc.
I really hope they don't set it in the same KOTOR timeline and don't make all characters force sensitive in one form or another. I do think that preqel and original trilogy timelines basically suffocate creativity but I think a great starting point for any new Star Wars MMO would be during Dark Horse's Legacy timeline which starts around 137 ABY. It's probably the most interesting timeline Star Wars has had and at the very least it's different and refreshing than the rest of the EU which is almost entirely trashy rehashes of the OT or Luke's millionth bajillionth googooplex adventure.

In all seriousness, I wish this rumor is true but put no stock in it. I'm a pessimist, and I expect that the $OE twits will somehow manage to convince LEC to let them renew the license in perpetuity, hence I'm stuck w/o a SW MMO for eternity.

Actually They DID NOT. They only said we are not Developing Kotor 3 and Will not Develop. I am repeating this was about "KOTOR 3"
I am following Bioware forums since the announcment of the MMO (march 2006) and THEY HAVE NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THEIR IP, NO ORIGINAL IP OR NO OUTSIDE IP NO STAR WARS OR NO ANOTHER ELSE..

bioware never said anything about their IP. not in the past , and not today. They didnt confirmed anything.(Star wars or not Star wars)
