Well due to some others in another forum for another game that I now think is vaporware. This game has actually caught my curiosity. So I decided to check out the site, check out the vids and all. looks descent, devs are pretty open and beta is up and running. So my question is really the topic. As a huge fan of DAOC and it's rvr, this sieging and pvp interest me a great deal. I was reading on that other thread here about the pvp, but all the good info seem to have been lost in the endless banter of the unknowing. In this I would like to ask Random11 or anyone with good insight to the pvp and what will be in and how would you compare it if you could? Are we talking crumbling walls like in daoc? or?
Any info would be cool on the subject, the combat system looks amazing and I love the way you have to actually do something, so any insight to this would be great. Definitely thinking about this title now.
Salu!

Good question, and the game will have many PVP modes. As a start, the devs will implement an FFA server where you can start PVP as early as you get off the noob isle. For others there are PVE servers and stuff like that, but as your interested in siege PVP there will be tons of things your into. First off, use of catapults and other tools to break down a players city will be implemented, sort of like an RTS. Guilds will be able to create their own cities in the border kingdom, and lead out raids destroying others. You will use the combined force of some NPCs along with your guildmates to aid you. As far as FFA servers go, it's PVP anytime, anyplace; but for PVE servers, the border kingdom is where it takes place.
There has also been talk on the AoC forums of some kind of loot server. For further details, I suggest you go look.
Hope that was of help

woh, very cool indeed! I will indeed check it out, that sounds right up the ally of what I liked about daoc but more, very sweet indeed. While pvp full server is ok, I prefer the "go to this zone area". kinda contradicts my thoughts on Darkfall sense that is a pure pvp environment. But alas this is not that game and the concepts are way different. I do like what you are saying about the sieging for sure. I am also interested in what I read about the npc's sieging your own cities in the regular full areas, sounds like a blast!... definitely look into it and thnx for the info. I did jump around the forums some there and of course here. Info is a bit sparse other then theories, so I figured I would ask someone who is a bit more in the know then myself.
Thanx again,
Chaintm
P.S. went to IGN to check out some vids, very nice indeed, the combat looks wicked.

Is there PvP sieges between player made citys?
Or is that only in the borderlands with pre made citys to conquer and defend?
Player made cities are in the border kingdoms. The game makes it's own cities for you to conquer and then theres the actual ones that guilds make. (And yes you can siege another guild's keep)
EDIT: guild's keep*

There are two types of cities guilds can create, one is in the pve area, where a guild can construct their own cities safe from other guild attacks, the guild buys land, the achitechts get to work and so on. These guild cities however are vulnerable to attack from npc armies. Guilds can also create "battlekeeps" in the borderkingdom to defend, which are obviously a target for any prowling raid party looking for fun.
So is there a specific timing of when the npc will be attacking the players cities? Hope it's not during the time most of us are asleep...

you can hire npc guards so you dont have to be there yourself...if your guild never visits the guild town, it will automatically fall under NPC rule.
PLAYERS cant invade player towns, only guild keeps.
Guild keeps are completely dynamic, you can either invade them or smash them in to pieces with your hundred catapults.
Holding a keep will give you access to resources only available in Border kingdoms...it will be tough to keep them tough...there will be PC raids and NPC raids to take the keep away from you and you'll need crafters to keep your keep in shape by fixing wall breaches and stuff.

WoW!!!! just wow!!! never really read up upon AOc and dont know its such a great game!!! always thought the "end game" will be stupid raiding of instances over and over again!!! Really hype me up now!!!
( on a side note, wonder will war be as fun as this? personally im also look forward to it )

WAR will be completely different game, it will be more instanced and PvP there is mission based (like in WoW) with factions dishing it out.
AoC has no factions and PvP areas will be FFA meaning you can attack whoever, whenever while in PvP Areas and they're said to be large enough to hold enough battle keeps (what isnt small) to keep players busy building, attacking and defending them to keep all the goodies that the battlekeep generates to yourself.
Well, I like it better when I am present in the title of a thread, not just the contents, but this shall suffice for now.
There are two types of cities. One of them is called a city, the other a keep. Any guild can have a city. The city is placed in an open to everyone instanced PvE zone. In this PvE instance the guild city will be located, as well as one NPC built, AI controlled opposing city. The fight is on for resources, however you fight NPCs, which will be easy to defeat, I presume. Having a guild city has numerous advantages, like certain resources, city shop and the likes.
The keep is located in a non-instanced huge area called the Border Kingdoms. BK is full of unique resources necessary for any kind of world domination (which we would all love to do), but these resources are limited. GvG battles shall occur for the resources, terrain, power, braggin' rights ... the right stuff. A guild can only have one keep, however, meaning if they defeat another keep, they simply gain their resource income. All this is in place so you, as loser (not implying anything, theoretically speaking), won't lose everything you worked 3 months for. Outsiders can also partake in these GvG sieges, so keep your allies close, very close ... and stab them in the back, if you can get away with it easy. Also these sieges don't occur any time a gang feels like chopping heads. One party declares war on the other, and then they set the time for it, so noone is caught unawares.
The best part of this kind of PvP is the lack of factions. Nothing is predetermined, everything is prone to change. Kingdom's shall rise and fall fast.
This is not the only PvP available, though. In the BK it's FFA frenzy, and we know that's the best way. You don't have to think guilds, you need only think of the next head to chop. There is a currency called blood money. Everytime you enter the BK, you have to buy blood money, from real currency. If you kill someone in BK, you take part of their blood money. Blood money is used to purchase PvP goods, and probably to turn back in cash. However you can't bank all of the blood money you have, only a part of it, rule says, in the BK you must carry blood money. This means the more you murder, the more blood money you must carry, making you a prime target for those looking for some blood money robbing. This will be interesting, I no doubt will be chasing the one with the most blood money all the time, before that becomes schizophrenic.
There will also be battlegrounds. Yeah, we hate them, we protest against them, but it's still in. As of yet, we don't know what/if any reward is to be gained bu PvP-ing there. Hopefully it's just for sport, and side betting. WoW ruined PvP with this, and silly gamers will whine for rewards in here as well. But my strong opinion is, there should be no reward at all for the loser. This should not be a grind, like it was in WoW, that was an insult to PvP-ers.
There will also be drunken brawling. It's simple, go to a bar, get drunk, then fight. It has nothing to do with levels and such, it only has to do with what coctail you drank. Some will make you hit harder, but be less accurate, others will pump you up and make you jump all around. Try and drink lots of alcohol in real life, whilst drunken brawling, and you will soon fill that vacuum in your life.
AoC PvP is about choice, and that choice is rewarded! The game has very heavy PvP parts, and endgame is partially PvP as well. However, those who don't wish to partake can avoid it altogether, that is the beauty of it. Furthermore there are separate PvP levels and PvP feats. You have 80 levels in total, and 20 PvP levels. Note : this is not 80 + 20, this is 80 PvE and 20 PvP. You are able to level your PvP levels separately. This is for balance issues (sp roots that last 20 secs on NPCs will last 3 secs on humans ... just an example), and also to give the players the possibilities to jump right in the PvP struggle as soon as they can. PvE levels do matter though, cause those determine your attributes and skills (that influence HP and mana), but it is guaranteed, that a low PvE, but high PvP level guy can kick the ass of a higher PvE, lower PvP level guy. This mentality is also reinforced by itemization. Some items will be good for PvE, others for PvP, meaning you might raid 500 hours to get the very best in raid sword of "iplayedwowandpwnzordnoobkidz", but it still won't do you good in PvP, if you want good PvP gear, you have to fight people to get it.
All in all it's a very solid fresh take on PvP, I look forward to kicking butt. Especially those people's butts who left WAR or got tired of waiting for Darkfall < -- Just joking, don't flame!!!
Thank you very much random11, very informative indeed, thx!

I must admit the PvP styles in AoC just sounds like a blast, I hope it's as good as it sounds on paper.
I laughed hard when I read this, the information you and others provided is great! Thank you very much! Sorry about the title, I will submit to change it to a more "fitting" title , this is the best pvp info I have seen on the game.

I haven't participated in PVP in some time because of ....... well, I won't get into it but if the PVP system is implemented in the way Random11 described, then I think I may actually participate in PVP once again.
