Atleast GET ALL YOUR facts straight, nice try in trying to spead wrong information.
This is the 2nd time today i've seen you say this, which is wrong and its unfair to misrepresent a game with your own thoughts and which you admit to bashing.
The combo slots are not buttons, they are indicators of combos your character can use. You can remove them and add others, but you can't click on them. You will still have to perform the combo move using the correct swings/thrusts of your weapon.
In regard to combos, there are many different reasons the slots are limited. Some of these being:
1) Strategy -- You have to pick and choose which ones you wish to use. You also cannot swap combos out that are on cooldown, meaning you have to choose wisely. Coming up with a balance of short/long cooldowns and synergistic effects will be a good task for an active and thoughtful player.
2) Usability -- It's easier for most players to keep track of the combo sequences of 8 rather than their entire combo book, just a fact. Personally, I like playing with 6 combos a lot of the time, just because it doesn't clutter my combat rose as much.
3) Balance -- Combat and the Stamina pool are not designed for you to be able to spam 16 combos back-to-back. Combos are intended to be part of the combat system, not the only element of the combat system. Therefore, limiting access via cooldowns and limited choices helps emphasize the fact that combos should be used with some thought and preparation, not chain-spammed forever.
There are other reasons beyond this, but I can assure you that the limited slots are a large part of our vision for how combos should work. Infinite combos just wouldn't fit very well with how we envision combat to play out on a general basis.
2.11 Will you be able to queue attacks?
Yes, you will be able to queue attacks, but only a few. When you make a strike, the game will put this into queue and perform it when your current strike is complete. So you can line up strikes, or attacks, if that is what you want. Or you can fight dynamically and perform strikes as they are completed. There will no be a macro system for the real-time combat.
We do use a system that allows for increased effect by using combo chains, however this system is not explicit, so its up to the players to find and take advantage of and plan around the fact that Numbing Strike followed by Shield Knock has an additional effect etc. Cooldowns are needed in Conan, we had the opposite problem, you just had too much to use all the time which resulted in a blind spamming. The cooldowns have actually added to, rather than taken away from the combat experience.
I understand that you might think this sounds limiting but it is not. If you consider the fact that on average a melee class has five different combo lines, this means you could have one combo of each of your lines on your combo bar, plus three additional of lower rank or whatever you wanted.
Also as you elude to it opens the door to more player tactics as to what combo's he wants to have at his fingertips. The combo's are still performed in the same way it is just less cluttered.
There is no limit to how "deep" we could make triggering combo's. But given the pace of combat no one would be able to make good use of combo's requiring 6,8,10 attacks to trigger. If you were performing a Hadouken in Street Fighter 2, its down, down forward, forward punch. Now you are only pressing the one attack button, in Conan you would be chaining each one of those as a basic attack to perform the combo. Slash down, Slash from the lower left, Slash forward = Hadouken. Since each piece of a combo is actually an attack you also have to consider the time it takes to do them. Even a fast weapon will probably take at least 4 seconds to trigger a 3 hit combo. The goal in this is to provide the player with control over what his or her character is doing, rather than trying to force the game-play to be more action oriented through button mashing.
2.3 Does this mean the character's skills are obsolete?
No, not at all, Age of Conan has a deep RPG skill system. This is still a role-playing game, and you will have skills, feats and abilities that make up how powerful and flexible you are. Players will have to raise these through experience points, which they gain through combat. There will also be separate skill evolution in PvP and crafting. The Real Combat System is just a way to add more human skill and interaction to a genre that is known for its rather static and non-interactive combat
Very few cooldowns are longer than a minute. Most combos fall between 15 and 30 seconds. This is to prevent combo spamming of your most powerful abilities.
Alright, you see the combat rose the circle in the middle bottom, has 5 directional attacks when using melee. You see to the right of that there are 8 slots for spells as this particular character is a Demonologist.
When you attack in melee, or range for example you can use " Q,1,2,3,E" as eg (you can map these to your own preferance), for your directional attacks, you chain these together to perform "chain combos" . If your a Ranger for eg. your combos will draw from your stamina. Feats are earned in different ways are are quite varied from whats been said.
In order to stop button mashing and spamming combo's have cool downs. There's a marked difference between "special moves" and "combos" in Age of Conan. Combos will be the only way of dealing additional damage in battle. By stringing attacks together normal attacks, they will convert to combo moves, doing additional damage, adding negative effects to the opponent or yielding beneficial bonuses. This also works in ranged and magical combat. Fatalities are based around weapon type and tied to combo's. When a combo is going to kill the target you can potentially get a fatality. Think of it almost like a critical finishing blow that completely decimates your opponent. The thing is this game is not like GW where you can't swap but you can actually swap those 8 anytime given! Btw oblivion just had 4 combos for melee class afaik...this game has like tens
You may assign 8 abilities (left side) and 8 spells (right side) to hotkeys at any time. __________________

What prevents you from changing the 8 available combos on the quickbars while in combat? Is it not possible to do combos that are not on the quickbars?
You can do this if you like, it won't break game-play.
As a level 25 Guardian I already have like 3 Guardian Combo's and 8 from my 20 levels as a soldier. (of course could end up changing) Thats 11 combo's and I am only level 25. Now try to find a nice way of putting 11 different combinations of attacks into six different directions of attacks. To make it less cluttered and rather than forcefully restrict the player to the last X combo's he learned, or by level we chose to let the players select which combo's they wanted to be available. So if you want to memorize your low level soldier combo's so you can spam the weaker ones more often rather than higher level more powerful ones you could. (Not that I think you would want to but the option is there)

Well, what is "say" is simple: you carry 8 skills and puts the rest away, as in guild wars. True or false?
I thought my original statement was rather clear.
You may assign your hotkeys at any time. The zone one is in has absolutely nothing to do with one's options in regard to setting up their skill GUI whatsoever.
You may only hotkey 8 spells at the same time currently, but you may change those hotkeys should you feel the need. There is no zone-based "picking" of skills such as the feature found in Guild Wars at all.
To answer another question in the thread, combos are not allocated this way. Combos are activated through the directional system and do not have to be manually assigned to hotkeys. Spells, abilities, or consumables are the items that are assigned to one of the GUI hotkey areas.

Didn't you go out of the way there Remali to embaress yourself!!!
Looks like you tried your best to put down the game yet again.... You can't think of one game that you have played to compare because there isn't one.
There will be Dozens of Combos on with selection of up to 8 to use at a time all with cool downs to stop button mashing like you find in Auto Target games. Chaining combos together WILL perform special attacks and fatalities.
Conan fighting is about learning the best and most efficient combos, and because of the variety present, this takes skill, especially when direction is involed.
This gives you a shed load of options! Duh!
There are many more feats too but it looks like you don't have the capacity to take in the information out there and UNDERSTAND it.
Dude give up and move on, you lose again.... Maybe a simple form of PvP / character control is more to your liking. Hmmm try looking into War? I hear they have auto target and an U.I and skill system the same as 90% of mmorpgs out there.
Like many people have been saying for a long time, AoC takes the familiar elements and improves and innovates. Just by reading, watching and listening you can see the path this game is taking.
Extra Combo information and quotes are there for people new to the game for help. Sorry for its length, but some people need to know these things (the criticts) urrm mean't (war fans)
Seriously are the Acolytes guild the PR department at funcom?
Look, read, understand...
You need to relax... your arguing over semantics. The fire and brimstone routine is getting rather preachy when anyone even hints AoC will not be the second coming.

Ah i must be a war fanboi is that it? Well then you like quoting stuff so much im sure you can find some of my posts in the war forum praising war etc. There seem to be only 2 types of people in your world fanbois and trolls im sorry to say i dont belong in any of these 2 categories. You see im actually interested in Aoc i know its very hard for you to believe but not everyone follows the game blindly and takes everything a dev has to say as gospel. You see i like to speak up when i see something i dont like and i like to raise questions and criticize. So tell me were am i losing again and again? If the game flops i guess i will be prepared due to alot of reasons and dont get dissapointed too much if the game succeds i will have a good game to play you see im in a situation i cant really lose unlike you who seem to have given your heart and soul to a freaking video game
It's this information:
"And no this system doesnt give you more options you will be hitting the same attacks over and over from 1-80 because of the "combos".Ah and before a fanboi comes to spread bs about 100s of combos let me tell you you will only have 8 at top lvl. There will be no skills special attacks etc the combos are all you are gonna have in addiction to the 5-normal-attack system. So you wont have more options than any other game in fact i cant think of one i played that had so few"
If you are actually interested in this game then you will see that the information I quoted you on was wrong. You know it, especially the way you wrote it was a complete put down and its unfounded rubbish.
Yes your right with the amount you can use at anyone time, but its not the first time you have got things wrong.
Im not critizing the fact you disagree with some points but its when you say "forsure" points that are wrong get kinda annoying, esp when your telling someone your info is right. Thats why I put Dev quotes up, they are making and have played the game - guess what we haven't...
I have a really balanced view on the game, I question, and I post concerns to the devs on the offical forums and on IRC, Btw you should pop on sometime it can be quite enlightening esp if your interested in the game.
Read the original quote I put up with what you said over again and tell me its not a bashing, because thats how I see it. Your putting the game down on your "infactual thoughts" be a skeptic all you want its good but please don't think I take dev's words for gospel. I just think they are in a position and have the credential to know what they are talking about more than me and more than you.
I just find it hard to comprehend why you would say something like that, that is wrong, esp as you say you are interersted in the game.
This site has over half a million members, even if just a few read the info, atleast they can read something right..
Where is the respect for the people who are making this game we are all interested in? Why the negativity? Judge the game when it comes out, until then you have only the dev's words and media to go by especially from gaming sites. Dont be so quick to judge core mechanics.

Actually he said for fabois not to bother responding because what he said was right, but it wasn't. I responded properly with saome facts. If i just typed "hey man thats wrong" 3 or 4 other ppl will pop up and contradict, we saw this earlier in the thread. What better basis than to put some quotes to the contrary. If some one is telling me something is not right, do I not have to option to reply? Or should I just take all the crap? Or just I just leave the community full stop?
I am perfectly relaxed every visit to these forums
If you took it as preachy then I apologise, but thats just me, not the guild im in.
I have my doubts. Funcom has been at this crossroad before and did not do to well. Funcom has a habit of promising the world and delivering far far less. Anyone remember AOs release?
I do indeed. And I also remember what they they told the community about the state of the game, and how soon they would address the bugs at release time. They strung people along until customers paid their monthly fee, all of them expecting fixes on the horizon. but after funcom had their money, they revealed that all the things they promised, wouldn't be fixed for a long time. Some still aren't fixed to this day.
Funcom shares a lot in common with the lore of conan, come to think of it.
Which is why you should never trust funcom unless they have hard proof.
You are right i AM bashing it what you still dont get is why im doing it.Its not because i came here to troll its because the system doesnt look good at the gameplay vids...not at the pr a dev will say i care not about that. Why the negativity you ask? Thats easy Dnl for starters.I followed that game and now i feel like an idiot for doing that. The signs were there but i didnt want to see them. Then we have vanguard. Now, i had already been burned by dnl so i saw the failing pretty clear even tho i had hope till the last minute. What i and alot of other posters are trying to do is actually push the devs to give it all to the game and release it the best they can. There are not so many war trolls as you think here sure there are some but not many you know why? They are not threatened their game will succede 100% it has a huge following from wow and... they have actually released a lot of vids proving they are making good progress with their game something i cant honestly say about aoc... yet If they show alot of stuff and prove the game is going good at the german gameshow ill be here praising it but i wont blind myself again to all the bad signs
People see what they want to see, Obviously. 5000 people see a good game, and 200 people say its the worse game ever. This is true about every game predecease. Once the game opens they'll quiet down, until they get banned for being negative and disruptive, and they return to the forums to bash. This isn't just AOC we're talking about.
AmazingAvery has always provided Amazing responses to which almost nobody can rebut because they just don't have information to do so. Most of their responses were all theories, and assumptions. Until you've got some type of fact I suggest you offer your thoughts as Opinions, and don't argue them so vigorously, because they are ONLY that, an Opinion. Your entitled to it, but if you start pushing your Opinion off as gospel, somebody is going to call you out, and show you the error of your ways. Keep your opinions as Opinions and we can't argue that.

Even thou allot of these threads have haters in them, overall I have been following closly to each post. The reason is I am finding more and more intresting information on this game and in that I finally decided to pre-order because it has so much to offer that it is awsome I can't wait!
"The monster created isn't by the company that makes the game, it's by the fans that make it something it never was"
I'm speechless. I am a fairly mature person, and I plan on playing AoC.
Though it would seem AoC has it's share of people who can't properly link a sentence together, WAR has people who can't spell when they are calling out an AoC fan with the very word that should insult. So all of you people who hate each other can be united in your quest to make sense. Break bread with one another, and come together in the fact that you are gamers.
I grew up in a time when there were mostly what I call, "closet gamers." People would be burned at the stake like the witches of Salem if they revealed they owned every console system and a PC. For me, it started with Atari and my Tandy 1000.......................................................................................................(you fall asleep due to his constant talking, and horrid story).............................................................................................................................and that is how I became the King of the Wakiwookiewomp tribe.
Anyways, I hope this met the level of "maturaty" that it needed to, and "this is a true in average-sized post." So, I was not lying!
p.s. I didn't know that UO meant old school. UO is to MUD as DAOC or EQ is to UO. That is just what I was raised to believe. I dont think a single MMO has touched the skill it takes in a MUD to PK. (I don't call it PvP).
Anyone squabbling or whining over which is the "bestest, baddest, most PvPest" game has the mentality of an eight year old, I don't care which side you're on. Once you grow up, you'll learn to pursue the things that you enjoy most without looking over your shoulder concerned about what the person next to you is doing. If you're that insecure and mentally stunted, perhaps you should use the time you spend playing MMORPGs on a psychologist's couch so when you finally enter adulthood, you'll be comfortable enough with your own interests, likes, and dislikes that you won't feel the need to go attacking other people for their personal tastes.
A game populated by savage barbarians and sorcerers with overexaggerated, rippling muscles is no more or less cartoony than a game populated by dwarfs and orcs. Give it a rest and have your fun. No one at this point can make any educated judgments on either of these games anyway until they hit the shelves. If we wanted to hear the misinformed speculations of bored kiddies whittling away their final months of summer vacation, we could volunteer at a day camp.
Well put. I just don't know if people will understand your fancy words, and the fact that you have a "no right or wrong" stance. Some people can't grasp the concept.

EDIT* Alright Remali point taken
Think about it this way Atziluth, when you have a guild with over 300 members, all of whom are to one degree or another wanting and waiting to play a game, you are bound to have a few that are adamant about defending it. Add that to the fact that a significant portion of our recruits come from these forums in the first place...
Speaking for myself, I don't give a damn for the most part what any individual person's opinion of AoC is. The game isn't and won't ever be perfect and it isn't for everyone, or even necessarily a large portion of the MMOGer population. What does get under my skin is when people misrepresent the game, particularly through the use of misinformation, for instance the poster comparing the number of hotbar skill slots in a classic autoattack system to the number of attack directions you can swing your weapon from in AoC's melee combat system, the connection between the two is simply absurd, at least apples and oranges are both fruit.

I have a very different memory of the events surrounding that release, and that is of bugs and glitches being fixed far faster than anyone had been predicting they would be. The fact that they were unable to fix a few minor issues is trivial AO is by far one of the most stable games on the market today, and it took a hell of an effort to get it there after that flop of a release.

Hopefully pvp video's that will see the light next days will be very good and with a lot of players involved (that will calm uss down for any lag problem and combat effeciensy of directional system that funcom introduce ).
Although we are close to launch if pvp video is good and revealing with all that features that we had read about it until now ,then no worries about it .
ps funcom must create pvp video with gamers that will perform all 8 combos while they fight in formation or individually so we can have a clear view of how good pvp filling is.And last but not least siege in castles .
the bottom line is in aoc your guild can fight every other guild and actually take territory from others and build upon it, where as in war its a simple 2 factions just repeating the same battles over and over again as far as dynamic, strategic and everchanging pvp gameplay is concerned aoc is the clear victor just look at the mechanics of each game
Its people like you that make this community look utterly clueless.
Its people like this, that leave the War Forums to troll AOC forums that make threads like these bloated with uselessness.
I agree with this person your quoteing here 100%. I like to pick my enemies, and allies. I don't like somebody telling me who should be my teammate and who should be my Foe. If somebody who's the same Race(or Culture) stabs me in the back, I like to make them an enemy. How many people in WOW hated somebody on their same faction, and you just had to deal with it. SUre you could duel, but its useless because they've lost nothing for real, it was a pretend fight. I like UO's system. Find a guild you don't like and declair war on them. Declair war on everyone if you'd like.
Well actually I come to the forums to get some more insight on this game but go ahead and think that of me I honestly couldnt care less seeing how I have seen you do the EXACT same think. Someone's a hypocrite...

Atleast GET ALL YOUR facts straight, nice try in trying to spead wrong information.
This is the 2nd time today i've seen you say this, which is wrong and its unfair to misrepresent a game with your own thoughts and which you admit to bashing.
Ok starting with some quotes:
Funcom

To sum up :
Damn Avery, nice job on all that info mate! Hopfully that will change peoples minds rather then them just assuming things!
Seriously are the Acolytes guild the PR department at funcom?
Look, read, understand...
You need to relax... your arguing over semantics. The fire and brimstone routine is getting rather preachy when anyone even hints AoC will not be the second coming.

- Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Some good points here.

Even thou allot of these threads have haters in them, overall I have been following closly to each post. The reason is I am finding more and more intresting information on this game and in that I finally decided to pre-order because it has so much to offer that it is awsome I can't wait!

Toodles.
Fu*k levelbased games. Darkfall = the one and only PvP king (if it comes out as it is on paper)

There both lieing neither of them have ever played either of them.( But if AoC does live up to its promises it will rape the mmorpg community)
Hello Kitty Adventure = PvP King, now shut up fanbois, you can build a house and raise kitteys in Hello Kitty.
Hey and check out this quote!
"Players will be able to cooperate and interact with other players to overcome a joint quest or challenge other friends to a friendly duel"
And best of all you can make new friends, I suggest we all go play that.
Though we have heard of stupid haste in war, cleverness has never been seen associated with long delays.
