Is Vanguard's population still declining?

This game gets cancelled, no bouncing back, it is doomed.

If you have any questions please ask. I have moved on to WoW from eq and no longer have any desire to play a dead game. Thank you. (posted by another selling his account in EQ1)

I all fairness, I will give my personal prediction of this game. Keep in mind that I love this game and I play it.
I think that this game is in danger of being shut down if subscriber numbers don't improve.

By way of comparison look at it this way. Both VG and EQ2 have support staffs of about 50 full time developers. But EQ2 has (at the very least ) about 150k subs. VG by comparison has something less than 20k subs (at best). That means that VG is not financially tenable at the current staffing levels. But if they cut back the staff the game will never get fixed. . . .

Ten Ton Hammer reporrted last month that EQ2 had fallen below 90k subs.  Adding up EQ2, VG and SWG (now below 50k according to MMOchart) would equal about 150k subs.

The population of EQ 2 on my server is skyrocketing.

Where did you read that it declined?

Do you play EQ 2?  The population is booming in the game.

They had a server merge of course which should have helped the population on the 'new' servers.

Who did, EQ2 or Vanguard? VG is still waiting for its server merge.

I'm a new VG player, I've played maybe 4 hours total over the last week, but the population is no where near as bad as I expected it to be. I've run into MANY people, and every one of them has said hello! This may just be because it's the various newbie starting areas, but I'm enjoying myself.

    Vanguard has a population?

I tried the Hillsbury, Florendyl, and the FFA PvP (USA) server. Florendyl and the FFA PVP server both had good communities. Florendyl's was better than the FFA PvP server, because they did have some people who would rather be a smartass than help you. Anyways, Hillsbury server was horrible. I created a character on there to join The Oldtimers Guild, but when I asked if there were any representatives from that guild on, all I got was silence. I also asked a couple other questions and only got immature smartass responses to them. After that, I quit the game. So what about Florendyl, you ask?

I tried 2 different large guilds on that server. You must understand, that with a low population, you have to join a large and active guild. Luckily, the largest guilds were mature guilds. However, because of my age and interests, the first guild wasn't a good fit. Their guild leader was a 20yr old drug addict. Cool fellow, but I prefer to surround myself by upstanding citizens, especially when I feel following the law is important. Without law, you have anarchy. Talking about how you do drugs over guild chat is not a good thing in my opinion. Especially when they are supposed to be my leader. The second guild consisted all of adults. I quit that guild because of the drama. The very first day I was in, some officers were bitching about not being voted in as a guild leader, because they've done so much for the guild and etc. In my opinion, that is childish, because selfless people give without worrying about a reward. I didn't want to be in a guild with people that give with the expectation of getting. Plus, I made a guild member quit over me suggesting a tax or guild dues system to help raise money for a guild hall. They are incredibly expensive and costs 1p a week to maintain just the lot. I was never once argumentive about it and was of course respectful. I just seen enough immaturity in that guild from adults to make me want to leave. That's when I went to Hillsbury to join The Oldtimers Guild.

So why didn't I hold out for The Oldtimers Guild? Because if they aren't active enough to answer my call for a representative in the middle of a Saturday, they definitely aren't active enough for me to join. So what are my views on the game? How can I go from loving the game to quitting it?

Those questions deserve answering, because I did defend the game against attackers. I believe that Vanguard is probably the best designed game out there, however, its design requires an active community to really enjoy it. At this point, there isn't an active enough community for me to complete my lower level group quests. I don't want to skip them either. After all, I did pay for this game and I want to do all of the content offered. I probably will come back after the server merges to see if I can find an active enough community to play with. SOE is hurting this game by not merging those servers sooner. I understand that they are holding off to ensure that they do it right, but they should have dedicated a larger team to this task, instead of worrying about changing other aspects of the game or a trial island.

In the meantime, I am going to suck it up and play LoTRO. At least there, it is a well polished game and has an active community. Plus it is a new release, so i won't be too far behind. They also give frequent free content patches. I know the game is shallow and I probably will quit it quickly, but I might as well give it a fair shake since I haven't played since closed Beta.

Lol not really.... but then again I guess 1 person is a population. From the news out of Fan Faire it's just about dead - no plans for a relaunch, the server mergers are it - it's sink or swim from here on out. I put my box away as a momento and continue on with EQ2 - you can't beat it.  With their promise of an expansion a year, and with the quality of the expansions always high and the awesome extras they offer their players, I'm staying there.

You can try pretend you are president of the world but that does not make it so my friend.Only an ill informed person or dumb would even think EQ2 servers have a population issue. Its very healthy by ANY standards.

I agree in soe fanfaire I have not seen any plans or talk of new developments and future development for Vanguard. I n fact no mention of vanguard whatsoever. The main highlight was the new eq2 expansion and new eq2 developments. New soe mmo games.

That is very unfare while its true SOE has a reputation games like SWG and EQ2 are hardly dying. So in the least SOE shows they can reserect titles.

Agreed i play and its turning into a bunch of credit farmers and the same old ppl that you see every day.  No new ppl.  I have been playing for over 3 years ( yeah i dont know why) and the population is in a DECLINE for sure.  It comes back to their total disregard for thier player base.  They changed the game completely and are STARVING and FIGHTING to bring it back to its former glory.  And they continue to no t listen to the majority of players.  90% of players would love to see the pre nge days but they wont listen and SWG is doom like VG.  It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth about SOE as a whole not just SWG.

In the interest of fairness, I really don't think that SOE has much to talk about right now when it comes to Vanguard.

Until the servers are merged, the client is stabilized and optimized further, and the trial island finally goes live, I don't think they're going to talk about VG all that much. Anything they'd say at this point would just be restating that they're working on the game, and in trying to retain the customers they do have.

Populations will hopefully start coming back up now that a lot of the crash bugs are being fixed and gameplay is improving. I know i am enjoying it a lot more. Its a great game it just needs more work its got very interesting and different ways of advancing. If they continue working on it and start to advertise that they are i feel like people will give it another chance.

Went down the toilet before even SoE bought it  over. What SoE is doing now is basically damage control

The FFA PvP server is doing that bad? Im considering returning to Vanguard but I dont want to return to an empty server and play all alone. I guess I should wait untill the server merge before I come back... or make a character on a team PvP server or a PvE server.

Look at it this way prof....go to pvp now, twink a toon without interuption, server merger happens and you are geared

There is enough content to solo now, or better yet, lvl up on a team v. team to provide group opportunities before the merger

That is interesting news (of population numbers).  I guess the majority of users remaining are station pass members.

Is there still a monthly service charge in effect or has that been dropped, or still at full price?

    And that is why...

They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
