My concern was actually about longevity and long-term play.
However, this concern has been abated after hearing a recent comment about leveling speed and RvR levels/ranks.
I had seen that while reaching max level (40) was estimated to be two-three months by the Devs (naturally, powergamers will cut this time in half), the time to reach maximum RvR rank was further estimated to be from one to two years (again, hardcore players will do considerable better than this estimate).
What this means to me -- as it was back in DAoC -- maximum character level may be achieved relatively "easily" but the ceiling for RvR ranks will be quite high. As we recall from DAoC, once max character level is achieved, the "real" leveling up through RvR begins in earnest and will take a serious commitment in time and effort to attain the the very highest ranks.
Overall, I think this is quite good. It gives a player short-term goals to attain, followed by long-term goals. Meaning that character development will take place in two stages so that the "carrot" will be held before the player's nose for a very long time.
M1sft1 I think you are overreacting and definitely exaggerating the differences with the lore, the Marauders are norse men, people form Norsca, yes they worship the chaos gods than grant powers without discrimination but when the norsemen tribes to in there ships to make hell to other people only men go to war they are different form the warbands form chaos wasteland where everyone goes fight or it dies. But you are right on the chosen thing there are female chosen less than male but they exist, its most likely that there is some technical reason for not making them.
Now the thing with the female dwarfs its different, the players are not part of the main army they are an special regiment and there have been several female dwarfs heroines and I think whitedwarf mention there was an all female dwarf regiment dedicated to Valaya.
There are some differences and discrepancies with the lore but they are nothing but a few changes so that the game can be play nothing serious instead of looking for mistakes and cry over a little changes from the lore you should see how well they have made the rest.
The title of this thread says it all: Are the developers right on track with the game, or do you see a potential blunder lurking around the corner? Personally, I’m very curious whether item decay is in or out. The way I see it, item decay is pretty much the deciding factor whether this will be a gear-grind game or not...
But as much as I love to "hear my own voice", I’d rather hear your opinion on the matter.
My greatest concern is the combat itself: Will it be interactive and tactical enough to hold my interest? The only thing that kept me playing WoW for around 2 years was not the game entirely, but the rogue class; the interactivity combined with the necessary planning during combat made rogue engaging enough to keep playing through all of the quest lines.
My second greatest concern would be character development: Will there be many ways to influence your play style and efficiencies while you progress in level? WoW accomplished this with skill trees that affected class specific skills, while CoH/CoV let you choose your skills from many different pools with relatively few restrictions.
The degree of instancing (lack of continuity) also has me a bit worried, since I'm a fan of worldpvp and I know about the segregation of PvE and PvP zones.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
At first I thought it would be a possible real contender against WoW. Then, I saw some videos and was shocked at how bad some of the graphics looked. The video footage, including a caster based class hovering around on some flying disk... well it reminds me of this old game called Sacred, and nothing at all like what they have been hyping up.
Hype is good, too much hype and you will have a lot of disappointed people when it doesn't live up to expectations.
If I had a concern (and I had to think a little hard to get one because ive been pretty happy with everything i've seen so far), it would be that too much might hinge on a players ability to find a good guild. If by chance you end up in a bad one at the start, it could significantly impact your ability to compete and advance. We don't have a lot of details on the guild levels yet, so thats a part of it.
Id agree here
Also worried about massive orginized raids (pvp) loved them in daoc , hope they will work well (be really in war).

Just curious...what announcements were those and how did they differ from lore?
I can't really judge that because my knowledge of Warhammer Fantasy's lore isn't what I'd call fantastic, but just curious to see how big of changes they're making.
There are several and I'll list them below.
1.) There are no female Priest of Sigmar period. This is a factual part of the lore in IP. In fact female orders that have professed the ability to hear the voice of Sigmar as well as being able to offer up prayers were all hunted down and exterminated by Witch Hunters in the past. The only ones who are allowed to hear the voice of Sigmar and offer up prayers are men who become Priest of Sigmar.
2.) Female Dwarfs are rarely if ever seen outside of dwarf holds. The only times female dwarfs pick up weapons and fight is when the male army has been totally defeated in the field and there is no one left to defend the walls/gates. While female Dwarfs are taught to fight their main roles in dwarf society is to tend to the home and they very rarely if ever leave their homes.
3.) Their decision on male only Chosen was pretty lame. They said they "could not conceptualize a female Chosen properly in a iconic manner.". I find that to be highly suspicious. There are plenty of examples of female Chosen in Warhammer. Books like the Liber Chaotic, Tome of Corruption, the Chaos Army books, and several novels all have written accounts of female Chosen fighting for Chaos.
Chaos is the most inclusive of all factions in the Warhammer IP. If you are deemed to be a devout follower of the Chaos god(s) you will be brought into the fold, armed to the teeth and granted the gift of mutations. Chaos does not care if you are black, white, yellow, green, female, male or orc ( asexual ) etc. If you are ready to further the cause for the Chaos God(s) you will be used and abused until you reach deamonhood, die or go crazy and mutate into a lowly Chaos spawn.
Also female Chosen are 10000x more iconic then the rarely seen female Dwarfs or the fallacy of a female Priest of Sigmar which do not exist period.
4.) Their decision on no female Marauders for Chaos is again another problem as well. This time though they did not use the "we can't draw any good pictures of one" excuse and instead said it was "against lore". Of course this is patently false because again just like the female Chosen there are plenty of examples of female Marauders fighting for Chaos in the Liber Chaotic, Chaos Army book, Tome of Corruption, etc...
Over all there are more examples of female Chosen and Marauders in Warhammer Lore/IP then their are of female Dwarfs warriors or the fallacy laden female Priest of Sigmar. In fact the title "Priest" is pretty indicative of the male only role for Priests of Sigmar.
Also these Chaos females are 100000x more iconic the female dwarfs which are rarely if ever seen and the fake female Priest of Sigmar who do not exist period.
So now I seriously hope they do not further bend and twist the lore again and allow any female Dark Elf Assassin if they put them into the game or male Witch Elves or Sorceress.
The only ones who can become Assassins in Dark Elf lore are male infants who survive being thrown into the cauldron of blood by Witch Elves during the Death Night.
A Dark Elf Sorcerer who wields magic openly in Dark Elf society is like a Jewish Man walking into Hitlers office during the height of WW2 Nazi Germany's "final solution" phase of that war.
Basically wielding magic openly as a male DE would get them killed fast and they certainly do not offer their service to the Dark Elf army which is control by Malekith.
1)There are female priests of Sigmar,I know it because I read about them in a book(buti don't remember the title, maybe it's "Blood on Reik").2) In time of great danger, every dwarf can come to defend his land (male and female).3) and 4) I think Mythic consider female Chosen and Marauder as an exeception.IMHO I must say it's difficult to imagine a female Chosen/Marauder very different from their counterparts:sticking a woman head together with a man body would have been weird
Take it easy man. We asked him what lore in particular bugged him, and he was nice enough to tell us. He wasn't trying to push his reasons off on anyone. There is really no reason to criticize it even if you find it silly.
You have to take M1sf1t's comments with a grain of salt. He was not the first to bring up female dwarves and sigmar priests, but he does have that right. Mythic kinda boned the IP on those accounts. But holding to the same standards he uses to argue about female dwarves the same can be said for female chosen and maruaders. Do female chosen exist in the IP yes... mostly in novels and M1sf1t's bible the liber chaotica and to in a very limited extent.
This has already been debated in another thread and frankly he has not shown any evidence to support his female chaos arguments. He is holding the IP to a double standard. If he is complaining that female dwarves should be excluded because they are rare... then he cannot say female chaos should be included because they are also a rarity.
The picture he posted is a slaanesh warrior. Slaanesh being the chaos god of lust and desire his followers often have parts of both sexes. The old models and drawings reflect this by having one exposed female breast with an armored male peck opposite.
He has also denounced all old books about chaos saying the liber chaotica supersedes those volumes when in fact it was written by authors outside of the development of GW. Now liber chaotica was published by a GW company but if anything it shows that GW is flexible on changing the IP to suit their current needs.
It has been stated several times that GW employees are at mythic and the devs are in constant contact to make sure they stay as close to the IP as possible.

I am dissapointed that the gameplay and scenery look to cheery and bright, I was under the impression Warhammer was going to have a gritty and dark feel to it, the videos I have watched show fighting in sunny glades - very disappointed.

Guess its all view points but they look more akin to EQ1 scenery with higher poly counts then WoW. But thats the buety of opinion. I maynot agree with you, but ill fight to the death for your right to say it.
My BIGGEST concern is that the game wont rely on grouping. Im a very big group whore. I enjoy playing with other people, it adds as social aspect, and if this goes the way of WoW, or even EQ1 in its present form, then leveling will be easy, and rvr leveling will be a minor fact.
I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad, The dreams in which I'm dieing are the best I've ever had.

Warhammer Fantasy Battle is a lot different in terms of "dark and grittiness" from its 40k cousin. When you look at the screenshots, however, you'll see it does take a great persona of the Warhammer world. You see trolls impaled on trees, witchunters burning people on a stake. Games Workshop likes to add humor to their world instead of bombarding you with dark grittiness that people apparently love to have. Think of it as a Nightmare Before Christmas kinda of dark.
To keep this to the topic. The things that concern me are the reliability of the players (will I get someone who will actually heal me if they're playing a warrior priest or something, or will they think that the only thing they can do is damage?) and the collision detection will really help against strafers and bunnyhoppers.

Im a little skeptical of collision detection just because I haven't seen it in an MMO yet, but I hope it works out.

I'm pretty satisified about what I know about the game so far. It looks almost a perfect game for me.
The only real issue I have are cross server queues. I just don't see how they could work in an RvR game, especially since Mythic really wants realm pride to be a very important thing. Fighting with/against random guys from random servers won't do much for realm pride or server community in general, and this is a very important thing for me.

Come on. Get off your high "Lore" horse and realise that converting 100% off the lore in game is like converting a 1,000 page best selling novel into a movie. IT JUST CANT BE DONE. Besides, all your complaints are not game breaking. Play WAR for the gameplay, read a Warhammer book for the lore.
Oh my! Dwarves don't leave the hold? Yea, sounds like a game I would like to play if they implemented that.
As far as the silly controversy over female and male races...PAALEASE...
Just another, I know more about the Lore than you post.
This complaint is similar to those elitist people, that we all know, who are so elitist that they only listen to underground music and watch obscure foreign films and bash anyone not as intellectually high brow as them and the moment their prescious underground phenomenon is discovered by the masses they bash them for selling out.
A concern is that they have said a few times that "yeah there will be siege warfare but it will be quick and we want more pvp than tearing down walls/doors". Part of the game I loved in DAoC was just that. A smaller force able to hold off a larger by defending a tower. I really don't want this to turn into wow where you just zerg the enemy unhindered by doors/walls/gates.
Another thing that concerns me is that the instance rvr might take the place of world RVR... I really hope that doesn't happen.
My concern is that unless I get a dedicated voice chat program, I will be at a serious disadvantage.
I thought I recall seeing that marcos were not going to be "allowed". Being a father of young children, I can't keep a voice chat program on all the time due to the frequent use of "frustrating language" that can be utilized in the heat of battle. In the past I used to be able to put my headphones on, but typing may be too slow to communicate effectively in this game.
I believe Turbine did do something right in intergrating a chat program with DDO ( and LORTO?). Wish WAR would have a system as well. Given it is focused heavily in RvR, why would voice chat be so hard to put in the game?
just realized that all the vids we see in WAR are from conferences, live expos, etc. Where verbal communication is easy. You just don't see much typing going on.
Will there be simple macros like target calling? etc. in the game?

I don't see how you will be at an disadvantage. If you have children in the room, put on your headset. I don't understand when you say " In the past I used to be able to put my headphones on, but typing may be too slow to communicate effectively in this game." How can wearing headphones affect the speed of your typing? Why can't you use your headset? And how would integrated in game voice chat prevent cursing? And what do macros have to do with anything? And LORTO is LOTRO Lord of the Rings Online.
Anyways, I wish for integrated voice chat too. It would definately make the PUGS better.

This is ofc true. I just hope I dont end up on the same server as m1sf1ts having to listen to this endless whining in general chat would truly ruin my gaming experience... at least abit haha
Comparing chaos chosen females with dwarf females m1sf1ts fail to realize that chaos chosen females are not common. They are more common then dwarf females (as seen outside "dwarfmountain") but still... not common. Throwing big numbers like x10000 and x100000 just makes him look like a kid.
I also love the comparison Dark Elf sorcerer / jew in nazi germany... ye it would be the same except one is the terrible event in human history that is the holocaust and the other is clearly made up and as such is hardly anything to get upset about TO BE FUCKING HONEST
Ok, let me get this straight. Because you believe that a Magus on a disc randomly reminds you of game called Sacred then it must logically be nothing like what they have been hyping up?
I don't believe they have been touting about grand achievements graphically. So your arguement about hype and graphics make no sense.
Check out and compare some pics, come back and make a better argument.
Wow, already crunching numbers. How can this even be a problem when its in beta and you haven't even played the game. Only watched a video. Armchair warriors...

The lack of freedom for playstyles, gameplays.
If you want to be the best, you have to raze the enemy capital.
If you don't like PvP, then you either play another game, or be zen and accept that in a hobby, you are lame and weak.

I played LOTR and the chat was terrible. Some ppl u can hear some u cant.
